This is easily one of the best retro collections ever. I owned a Sega Genesis many years back and this collections has most of my favorites. It's gret having Sonic the Hedgehog, Columns, Streets of Rage, Shinobi and Vectorman all in one collection. The controls work very well, which I am thankful for. I have played some retro collections where current controllers were not taken into account, but Sega has worked these games so the PS3 Dualshock 3 works perfectly with all games. The graphics may be dated, but the fun is not. Many of these games still hold up alongside the current generation of games and are still a lot of fun to play. It's also interesting to see how the graphics of the Genesis games evolved over time as technology improved. Play an earlier game like Alex Kidd or E-SWAT and then play Vectorman 1 or 2 to see what I mean. There are a few minor bugs in terms of sound and graphics in a very small number of areas, but nothing that will have any real effect on your enjoyment of the games. These were probably in the original games and may be fixed with future operating system upgrades. Also, the original Genesis cartridge for Sonic & Knuckles had a feature that let you play as Knuckles the Echidna in Sonic 2 and 3, but that is not in this collection for some reason (maybe it will be a future download). Despite these two minor issues, I would recommend this to anyone who ever had a Sega Genesis or who has an interest in retor gaming.

A grat way to reminisce on the old days of gaming.

This collection is a great buy. I put it in, and instantly jumped right back into games that I remember from my childhood. Also I just turned 23, so some of these games are before my time. It feels good to discover them. Streets of Rage 2 is a great beat em up game. Phantasy Star IV is one of the first RPG's of large scale, even on the Sega Genesis. Sonic 2 was alwys fun, and even had terrific level design. Comix Zone was tons of fun to play with its inavative leve design, and gameplay mechanics. That is only a handful of the games that you will experience with this collection. I gave the challenge rating a 5 because believe it or not, some of these games were quite difficult. This collection also features every entire game, and has a save feature which many of them did not support back then. Simply put, this is a great way for older gamers to remember the games they enjoyed and for younger gamers to discover a forgotten age of gaming. Buy this...

Great compilation of classic Genesis games

If you grew up in the 16-bit era, then you're going to love this classic compilation of games. The graphical emulation is solid although there are a few sound oddities. However, there's nothing to really detract from the nostalgia. The usual suspects are present in this collection such as all the Sonic games (no lock-on feature for Sonic 3 and Sonic & Knuckles), the Phantasy Star series, etc. However, there are a few gems in this collection that haven't been available in other Sega collections including the Streets of Rage series, Shining series, etc. Overall, you can't go wrong with this collection if you grew up on these games or are looking to experience a piece of gaming history.

Giving the new dog old games.

No matter who you are, how old you are, you can't forget these sega classics. Nobody can put a price on playing Sega Genesis games until 3AM in their bedroom. Sega has, once more. 30 dollars for 40 games! What a price. And well worth it. This game features a lot of my favorite titles that i have either lost or destroyed in te process of growing up. It also is the only game i know of that can play music straight from the XMB while in game. What's also cool is that there is a SAVE feature on all the games! I was NEVER able to beat Sonic the Hedgehog one two or three because i couldn't do it in one sitting. Now that's gonna change. Thanks Sega! I'm always on your side!

not up to par, and a complete disappointment

this was a complete disappointment. the graphics are better on sega genesis (i should know i bought a nomad and genesis after words) the graphics are either too sharp or too soft even when i change the sharpness. the sound is all static (like in sonic 3 when bombs are dropped its all static.) the speakers on my TV as well as $1000+ acoustic research are now completely ruined(the cones blew out on a very low volume). i don't know if it was a faulty game or what. but i DO know i wont play this again.

Similar to a lot of the "classic" collections out there, the games on this disc are emulated, so the old technical issues like slowdown will remain (hence 4 stars instead of 5). If you're okay with that, though, this is a bargain for the price and I highly recommend it. A neat bonus: Because of the emulation, all of the music, particularly that of the Sonic games, sounds *exactly* the way it did in the old days, which was an unexpected treat. Enjoy!

I'm not much of a video gamer. I typically only play Warhawk (PS3). I got this game 2 weeks ago because I kind of miss my old Genesis and hate to dig it out of the box and then have to clean the contacts on the cartridges. Now, since I bought this game, I haven't put it down. The graphics are improved to 720P, which makes not using the Genesis even better. The controls very well work on dual shock 3, and now I have in game saves! Awesome!!!

Games are good, but not as good as I remember.

The games are great. I'm sure all the games have the same graphics, same pitfalls, and the same number of hard of easy/hard levels. However, after playing some of them, I find that the games themselves were more epic, brighter, harder, faster, more exciting ... when I was a kid, and they were new, top-notch technologies. My kids just aren't getting into them as much as I hoped they would ... as much as I did when I was their age.
