Sony - 4K Ultra HD Media Player - Black

I pre-ordered the 4K Media player about a month ago. It came this past week double boxed. I received $200 off due to pre-ordering, which was nice. The set up was fairly simple with the exception of having to call Sony support because I had the 2013 Sony 4K TV. The person on the phone had to check with the higher support tier on whether I needed a upgraded HDMI port. The great news is that I didn't, since my TV came with HDMI 2.0 inputs. I was a little disappointed that the media player didn't include any free 4K content. I just got the TV about a month ago and want to see 4K even if it is just the demo stuff that they have on the TVs in the store.

True 4K picture is amazing. Long downloads for movies (8 Hrs. plus with 30 Mips internet). Movies are too expensive ($35 for recent movie). Rentals for 24 Hr. use is $8. Afraid to rent with long download times,can I view movie within time alloted (24 Hrs.). Free downloads 50+ are all a few minutes long, great for showing off system, but not a night of watching movies. This unit is required if you want true 4K Picture. No other source is true 4K except this media player.

This product from Sony was a something that I didn't really know much about until I purchased it. It's a small item.fits great with your other equipment. Took about ten minutes to get it up and running. The picture quality is great. 4k makes a big difference. Purchasing 4k videos from Sony are on the high side...$29.99 and up. These movies have to be downloaded on your hard drive of the unit. This can take some time,even with a fast internet connection. The library is not bad...still early so I suppose it will grow in time. Hopefully the price of movies will drop as time goes on too. My intention of purchasing this item is to use it in the near future when I purchase a Sony 4k TV. I'm using it now on a Vizio 4k TV and it's great. But I think given a year or two from now....prices will drop and I will probably purchase more 4k movies from Sony to store on my hard drive. It's a good unit now. I think later it will be even better. If your patient and will understand that it will take time to get more 4k content..then by all means pick up this little gem. But if you purchase it with hopes of having a huge 4k library right away.....you may be in for a surprise.

As I said, the unit is a bit pricey. It has a 1 TB hard drive with a USB output for an external HD. I like the unit's design, and the downloaded 4K movies are excellent.

While it's neat to have a media player that can provide the 4K content, the amount that is available now make it hard to provide a definitive answer if you need to get this or not. retail value it's not cheap for sure....please do some research before buying. I got mine for free, as a promo for buying a sony 4K tv, so I can't complain....but I'm still trying to figure out the full usefulness of this item.

I was excited when this came out, as I was an early adopter to 4K, and was upset to find out that I wasn't able to get netflix in 4K. Although I get netflix in 4k, that is about all of the features. No other applications are available except Sony's Unlimited 4k streaming service. If I had to do it all over again I would get a bluray player that has netflix 4k and other apps like HBOGO for a fraction of the cost. Because now I have to go get a chromecast for HBOGO.

Great 4k delivery, like we all know not much content. Netflix looks great on it but needs more...Ultraflix? Amazon? Deduct 1 star for price and one star for lack of content. It works great for what it does though. 4k looks amazing and this box downloads the purchases instead of streaming and it does make a difference.

Works good but I had more expectations for a media player that cost $700. Takes forever to download movies and they are expensive too.
