I usually don't take the time to write these but here goes. Needed a new TV as my old Samsung 650 was starting to show weird lines on the display. Decided on the Samsung mu8000. Got it home and set it up but the color was not as vibrant as my earlier Samsung. I will say this, Samsung set up with their new remote is incredibly well done. It instantly recognizes your cable box, apple TV, DVD player.. Samsung really knocked it out of the park with the initial set up. Amazing. Unfortunately as I stated earlier, the color and picture of that set (IMO) just didn't compare to what I was used to so I returned it and went with the Sony X930E. What a difference.. It was also double the price but for me, totally worth it. The color and clarity of the picture is pretty amazing. I also purchased a Bose 300 Soundbar for the sound.. The sound coming from the set is pretty good but I still wanted a little more sound. The Bose unit puts out the quality of warm rich sound that Bose is known for. The instructions to get the Bose Sound paired with the Sony TV really could be better. Make sure you update all the software on both pieces of equipment- additionally, there was some reports of the soundbar having issues utilizing the HDMI arc hookups on these- I used the optical wire connection which gave me sound but I couldnt get my Sony remote to control the volume of the TV and soundbar at the same time. There is a note in the Sony TV menu that you need to use BOTH the optical hook up and the Hdmi hookup to get the remote to actuate the sound. I believe there was another setting in the TV as well that I changed that may have also helped pair the Soundbar to the TV. I also set my iphone up with the Bose App so I can bluetooth the Pandora on my phone to the Soundbar. Its totally cool. What I found strange was after I shut my phone down, I couldn't get the sound to come back on in the soundbar. After much time I finally realized that you must get out of the bluetooth mode of your phone and go back to the TV Mode.. you can do this by simply pressing the TV incon on the Bose remote and presto.. the sound is back on and controllable with the Sony remote. Another note is that the apple tv remote will also control the volume of the sound bar once you have the initial setup complete. Not an expert here and Im sure there may be a few laughs from the folks who set these up all the time, but just a few observations. Once you get this going, you wont look back :)

After a bad experience with an LG (non-oled) we decided to spend considerably more and go with this Sony. At first the tv was great... then less than 2 months later the main system board died and the TV wouldn't power on (red flashing light). Took over a week to get Sony to send a technician (sub contractor had to wait for parts) to fix it. Tech ended up loading a 75" firmware onto the board (I looked on Sony's site and at the time they only had a 55" firmware for Mexico/South America) but the TV seemed fine. I work in IT, and I know that sometimes stuff happens and you can get a bad part. My wife didn't quite feel the same way and wanted the TV replaced at that time, but whatever. Fast forward another 5 months and the picture died AGAIN, but this time the picture stays on for a few minutes (less than 5) and then goes black. You can see the backlight bleed through so that's on, but no diagnostic lights this time... call to Sony, again they say it's the main system board and need to set another appointment for their subcontractor to come out and fix it, of course I need to wait for them to get the parts... 4 business days and counting since I called. Oh and the TV needs to be unmounted from any wall mounts, which is understandable, but it's a VERY heavy TV compared to my 50" Samsung I was using previously. So that's twice I've needed to mount and unmount the TV and their sub contractors are not allowed to help. The TV, while it was working, was fantastic. Very bright (great for dark scenes in movies) and great HDR quality. Compared to an LG UH7700 that on dark scenes where everything blended together. Reflection from light sources was acceptable, don't think it was any better or worse than any other TV we've owned. Android smart features were fine but the UI was a sluggish. No matter as we used a 4k Apple TV almost exclusively. Great TV, but for a TV in this price range I expected Full Array Local Dimming not the cheaper edge lighting, but overall the picture quality was fantastic.

The good, the bad, and the ugly

      Posted

After researching 4k TV's decided that this one matches my criteria for the purchase made on 2/3/2018. It was purchased online and shipment was coordinated through the local store. The good: Relatively easy setup. It is mandatory to watch the unboxing and setup video if you are doing it on your own before you even open the box! TV setup was easy and also the smart TV setup menu was excellent. TV has a great picture and the cable routing on back is sleek. The audio quality is okay, did hook up to my stereo so use that for movies etc. The bad: After 14 days of ownership I was viewing a 4k youtube video and thought the camera on the video had some type of matter on the lense in a scene with light blue sky. When the scene changed it was still there! Immediately opened up another video and the problem was with my screen. It had a greyish mark about 3/8" in size. The ugly: Since my 15 days for return ended the next day I kind of went into panic mode. Called the local store and the associate said I could return it. Didn't think of it initially but the TV would never fit in my car, so called back to see if they could pick it up (as they had delivered it). She told me no, they couldn't do that because I bought it online. Called the BB 888 number and was finally sent to a Geek Squad agent. Luckily she was helpful and was told I had the Elite status and had 30 days to return it. She scheduled a pick up and my only big sweat now is how to get it back into the box. Spoke to Sony and they said this was uncommon and that it was the pixels that went out more than likely (although it needed more testing allegedly). I chose not to get this replaced by Sony or BB and to return it for credit. It would have been sad to have this for a period of time after the year warranty ran out and have this happen. To spend another $400 for the Geek Squad protection for 3 years wasn't something I wanted to spend extra. 4k doesn't look so good if there is an area with the pixels going out. At any rate in closing once bitten twice shy.

      Poor Sony Customer Service

      Posted
      BBGuy

Television looks great, but had issues with streaming from Netflix, HBONOW, and Amazon video. I initially thought I had a network problem based on errors, but I have another Sony TV just like this one, model: 65XBR810C which has the same television platform version and app versions which can successfully play all streaming apps without issue. Not only that, no other devices have network problems in this house. Sony has advised the router is bad. I asked if it were to be replaced then what? The response "Your ISP would be the problem then". This is totally unacceptable! My new 930D can play some streaming apps such as YouTube, Hulu, and a few other streaming apps, however Sony considers this to only be a network issue and refuses to troubleshoot it further. If this were network it is likely nothing would stream. A quick google search will show this is a problem many others have had and no resolution. Sony was downright dismissive that this is working on a TV just like the one we are troubleshooting. If I were not a mid level enterprise network engineer the wool would be pulled over my eyes, however I am smarter than the average bear on this subject and these guys at Sony are not taking any responsibility. This TV is too expensive for that type of service. Stay away or buy a Roku to compliment your TVs native problems.

      Great Gaming Settings for motionflow

      Posted
      XBLogGamer

Against common knowledge stay away from game mode. If you want to take advantage of the TV's motionflow capabilities while not only keeping but improving the stunning 4k detail and HDR contrast. All while not having an unplayable input lag just use the Standard mode for gaming. If your playing FPS competitive then use game mode for the least input lag. Try my settings and you won't be disappointed. I hardly notice latency issues and I am sensitive to them. Unfortunately game mode is limited in it's motion options. Picture mode: Standard Brightness: 10-20 (preference) Color: 60 Light sensor: off Contrast: 80 Gamma: -2 Black level: 50 Black adjust: off or low Advanced Contrast Enhancer: low Auto local Dimming: Low X-tended Dynamic Range: High Hue: 0. Color Temp: Neutral Advanced color temp: bright red, -4 (preference) Live Color: High Sharpness: 63 Reality Creation: Auto Random Noise Reduction: Off Digital Noise Reduction: Off Smooth Gradation: Off MOTION FLOW: STANDARD or SMOOTH, but smooth can cause some artifacts or judder around objects at fast speeds. STANDARD seems to be perfect. The background objects are flawless when you move. CineMotion: High Video Options: All set to AUTO These settings have given me the most amazing gaming experience I have ever had. A.C. origins and Wolfenstien ll was incredible. I should note I am running the new OneX with this set. Make sure to put the HDMI cord into port 2. Also go into the TV settings and then external inputs, then HDMI signal format and set it to Enhancer Format do this in order to get the full 4k HDR out of the signal of HDMI ports 2&3. Also in your console settings be sure to go to the settings, Then display and sound, then video output, make sure your Tv resolution is set to 4K and video fidelity is set to 10-(bit), because the 930E is capable of this. This should give you the best picture possible with the least motion blur you have ever experienced. Better than my plasma. I am unsure of the input latency difference but it is negligible. Considering how much of a difference you will experience in picture quality and motion processing it will be well worth it to get off Game mode.

We were replacing a 9 year old, 46" Samsung. When tuning it on it would slowly go from a dark picture to a good one. It was a fantastic TV and I planned on replacing it with another Samsung. At the same time I was ready to upgrade to 4K. After tons of research on the Best Buy site and online I narrowed it down to Samsung and Sony. The last Sony we had was a Trinitron. We loved it. The last Samsung was still hanging on our wall. In it's nine years with us it has been through six months of never being turned off through radiation treatments and six years later, six months of never being turned off chemo treatments. Samsung was at the top of my list as was 4K. What started steering me away from Samsung was the "one connect cable". My room is already wired (for my last Samsung) with all the components in a cabinet and an HDMI cable from there under the floor, through the wall to the TV. The "one connect cable" was opening a whole new can of worms. So that was out. And I wasn't settling for a lesser set to get the inputs on the back of the TV that I wanted. Onto Sony. After reading reviews this set came out highly rated. Everything I read pointed to the set I wanted. Soooooooooooooo, we made a purchase, sight unseen, online. We figured with Best Buy's return policy it was a safe bet. The free delivery included went without a glitch. Now for the TV......... Amazing, unbelievable clarity and color. And bright! (you can tone it down if you want to). We have south facing and east facing windows and this TV stands up to them, yet at night dims down to the surrounding light. It has HDMI and cable hook on back of the set which is where I want them. I'm as thrilled as the time we purchased our first color set, a Sony Trinitron!

Sony XBR55X930E is an excellent TV overall but not without its faults (well, nobody is perfect). It produces very good picture and black levels. The best thing about it is its up-scaling engine that produces almost 4K-like picture from a good HD signal. That fact, its excellent up-scaling engine, was the biggest factor in my decision to buy it. And after owing this TV for a bit over a month I concur with many positive reviews on it. Now, it is not all roses there as I am sure other reviewers mentioned that this TV is not the best for side viewing and if you are watching TV from an angle I would advise to look elsewhere. The picture loses some color and sharpness from about 20-25 degrees but it does not get worse at more steeper angles. That shift is not much noticeable in a store where the TV runs on a (bright) 4K-demo-loop but once you bring it home and calibrate it and watch cable yep, you'll notice it. In the short time since I bought it, there has already been an update to its Android operating system that addressed the biggest complaint of not having picture/settings split screen when adjusting TV settings. So, it is all good there. And overall, despite the complains about viewing angle, I am pretty pleased with my purchase.

Just had my 55" 930E delivered, setup and hung by the Geek Squad. They did a nice job on installing very professional. The picture quality in absolutely amazing. I'm coming from a 55" Samsung that's 9 years old. Difference is night and day. This TV is in a very bright family room with a lot of windows and I'm not getting any glare. I'm very pleased with everything now. I have a BoseSound Bar that I'm not sure I'm even going to connect it because so far I don't have any problems with the sound from the speakers. It looks great hanging on the wall. One thing I will add somewhere I read a question posed about if this TV had an adapter brick. Three people responded and said no it didn't have one. I'm here to tell you this TV DOES have an external power adapter (brick). They just zip tied it to the back of the set. I will probably be relocating the adapter because its placement does interfere with the TV being able to tilt it downward as much as it should. This is due to my cables and power supply come out from behind the wall near where the adapter happens to be. Should be an easy fix to find somewhere else to zip tie the adapter to the back of the set. So far I have 0 complaints. I had to resubmit my review because my first review didn't indicate "verified purchase". This review now shows Purchase Verified. Still love this TV. I would recommend this to a friend!
