My Occasional Sony Replacement
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Purchased two, one as immediate replacement for the same Sony product and the other as backup for that replacement. Why? Apparently the "Sony Sync" is extremely sensitive to lightning strikes. The killer signal apparently comes down the cable thru the tv to receiver and whacks the sync. After first of "sync deaths" of previous "sync deaths", I put power protection on all power lines and after another storm second bonk and sync was history again. Now I disconnect cable, if present at storm. The receivers still work fine just no sync any more. My system is all sony and I listen to my tv with my 3 way speakers (15" woofers) . Awesome sound. The left speaker is set up the same as right on top of storage cabinet.

Very Nice Receiver
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This receiver replaced one that failed. This new one pumps out the bass to my 100 watt subwoofer. The bass vibrates half my house now. The power driving this unit is also excellent as I have a 6 speaker set up. The sound is very much cleaner and crisper with this Sony receiver. I would definitely recommend.

Modern Compliment to Classic Speakers
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. My boyfriend had these great Technics analog speakers but an old receiver that would not hook up to modern equipment. For his birthday, I bought this receiver, some 18 gauge speaker wire, and hooked it all up while he slept. (Not easy!!) The receiver brings the full-bodied sound of the speakers to life. I deducted one star, because the movie presets will only come through one speaker-- the others work through both. We watch movies with the music presets or one of personally equalized presets we've created. Other than that, we enjoy a full array of sound, and watching tv has become a whole new experience. Now we're looking for a larger tv!

Quality Sony product
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Sony always puts out the best products, this is why I'm a long time loyal fan. I'm enjoying my new Sony surround sound. And I love the fact that you can adjust each speaker independently...if the dialogue is too loud you can lower the volume of the center speaker...while leaving the other speaker volume up so u can enjoy quality sound when the action sequence plays. Overall... a great system for a decent price, on sale for $200.

Excellent low end receiver.
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I needed to replace a burnt-out receiver and did not need anything more than a 5.2 channel receiver. I owned a Sony brand receiver that lasted 15 years with proper ventilation and supplied power. Using a 1200 watt line conditioner and making sure that the receiver had proper ventilation was the key to the receivers' longevity.

Great AV receiver for the price
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I have an excellent Yamaha receiver that has worked well for years. In our new media room we installed home theater seating, an Epson PowerLite 1080 projector and a pair of B&W tower speakers. My receiver was not AV/HDMI ready so I had to wiggle the connections manually, which was especially difficult with HDMI inputs where I had to split the audio to go to the receiver while the video was sent to the projector. So i got this Sony receiver, which was a snap to set up. It comes with a microphone that analyzes the acoustics of the room to configure it. In 10 minutes we were watching a movie. For the price, the sound is pretty amazing. It is really hard to justify spending more money on a receiver unless you have some very special needs. This receiver has enough HDMI inputs and outputs for me, subwoofer out, power is more than sufficient for 99% of people, and it looks well built. We have had it for about 6 weeks now and I am very happy with my purchase

Q: Questionwill 2 different ohm rated speakers cause this to burn out? centers 6ohms surrounds are 8ohmsi have 1 6 0hm center sony speaker and 4 8 ohm polk audio surround speakers will this cause the receiver to burn out?
Asked by jayson7131.
- A:Answer No, the minimum rating for this receiver is 6 ohms so you are good to go. 4 ohm speakers would cause this receiver to burn out. The MCACC room calibration utility should balance the sound output for your 6 and 8 ohm speakers.

Q: QuestionI'm a bit off on the 5.(2) part. 2. Is that talking in regaurds to the subwoofer ? And if so, am I able to power 2 subwoofers with this unit ?
Asked by Anonymous.
- A:Answer Yes this is in regards to the sub, or in this case subs. It has two subwoofer outputs. As for ”powering" two subs surround sound receivers do not power the sub they send the audio signal to the sub which has it's own amp which is why you have to plug the subwoofer in to power. It will support two subs at the same time.

Q: QuestionSub WooferSorry, me again Ott, I have a passive class 2 wired sub woofer. I had read that on a 5.2 channel system I can connect it to the center wired speakers on the class 2 connectors? Is this true or do I need a new powered or passive sub woofer with the RCA connector? Thanks for answering my audio question earlier. I am really interested in buying this unit.
Asked by Ott.
- A:Answer I think you will need to buy another amplifier for your subwoofer. The RCA jacks will definitely not drive a speaker. They are only at line out levels. I unfortunately did not realize there was no amp for the subwoofer in this when I bought it, so now it is back in the box, and I am trying to find someone who can use it.
