  • Key Specs
    • Image Sensor Size: APS-C (23.6 x 15.7 mm)
    • Effective Pixels: 24.2 megapixels (The actual number of pixels which make up the viewable image.)
    • Standardized Video Resolution: 4K (2160p) (An approximated measurement of the product’s video resolution. This may not be the exact resolution of the product, which may be slightly more or less when using a pixel-by-pixel measurement.)
  • General
    • Brand: Sony
    • Model Number: ILCE-6400M/B
    • Product Name: Alpha a6400 Mirrorless 4K Video Camera with E 18-135mm f/3.5-5.6 OSS Lens
    • Color: Black
    • Product Set: w/ 18-135mm Lens
    • Digital Camera Type: Mirrorless Camera with Lens
  • Imaging
    • Image Sensor Type: CMOS (CCD and CMOS are the two main technologies used in image sensors. CCD, the older of the two types, turns analog light signals into digital pixels. This conversion happens without distortion, resulting in high-quality images. Newer CMOS sensors use transistors at each pixel to move electrical charges. CMOS sensors are typically less expensive, but also require more light to create distortion-free images.)
    • Image Sensor Size: APS-C (23.6 x 15.7 mm)
    • Total Pixels: 25 megapixels (Generally, the more pixels, the higher the image resolution and the finer the detail that can be seen.)
    • Image Resolution (Display): 6000 x 4000 (Refers to the number of pixels, both horizontally and vertically, used to either capture an image or display it. The higher the resolution the finer the image details.)
    • Zoom Capability: true (This function allows for magnification of the subject.)
    • Digital Zoom: 4x (A digital zoom is accomplished electronically, with no adjustment of the camera's optics, and no optical resolution gained in the process. The existing data is not enhanced or added to, merely displayed at a lower resolution, thereby giving an illusion of an enlarged image.)
    • In-Camera Image Stabilization: false (This feature helps reduce image blurring from camera motion. In-camera stabilization means the image sensor itself moves to counteract detected motion.)
    • Low Light/High Sensitivity: true (High sensitivity digital imaging devices are designed to work in low light conditions to produce a high dynamic range image.)
    • Image File Format(s): AVCHD, H.264, JPEG, MPEG-4, RAW (Standardized software format(s) of storing digital images. The type of format chosen for capturing and compressing the image can determine quality, level of detail, and storage space required.)
  • Focus
    • Autofocus: true (Allows the camera to automatically focus through the lens, rather than by adjusting the lens manually.)
    • Eye Autofocus (Eye AF): true (Automatically seeks out and focuses on the subject's eye and holds it as the camera and subject move and as the photographer shoots at high frame rates.)
  • Exposure Control
    • Shutter Speeds: Still images: 1/4000 to 30 sec, Bulb, Movies: 1/4000 to 1/4 (1/3 steps), up to 1/50 in AUTO mode (up to 1/25 in Auto slow shutter mode) (The length of time the shutter remains open when the shutter release is activated, expressed in fractions of seconds. The longer the shutter is open, the more light that is able to be captured by the camera sensor.)
    • Minimum Aperture: f/36 (The smallest opening of a lens, typically expressed in f-numbers. The larger the number, the smaller the aperture and the less light that can enter the lens. A smaller aperture creates a larger depth of field, which keeps both foreground and background in focus.)
    • Maximum Aperture: f/3.5 (The limit to how wide a lens can be open, typically expressed in f-numbers. The smaller the number, the larger the aperture and the more light that can enter the lens. A larger aperture creates a shallower depth of field, helpful for keeping subjects in focus and blurring background details.)
    • Minimum ISO: 100 (ISO is the measurement of a camera image sensor's light sensitivity. When there is plenty of light, using the lowest ISO setting available will typically result in a higher quality image.)
    • Maximum ISO: 32000 (ISO is the measurement of a camera image sensor's light sensitivity. In low-light environments, using a higher ISO setting helps to capture a sharp, bright image.)
    • Maximum Expandable ISO: 102400 (ISO is the measurement of a camera image sensor's light sensitivity. Expandable ISO settings use software to simulate brighter images than the device's native ISO range is capable of capturing.)
    • Brightness Control: true (Allows the camera to adjust the brightness of a captured image for optimal exposure.)
    • Burst Mode: true (Also referred to as continuous shooting. This feature captures multiple shots in rapid succession.)
    • Burst Rate: 60 frames per second
    • Self Timer: true
    • Self-Timer Delay: 10 seconds, 2 seconds, 5 seconds
    • Shooting Modes: Single Shooting, Continuous shooting (Hi+/Hi/Mid/Lo selectable), Self-timer, Self-timer (Cont.), Bracket: Single, Bracket: Cont., White Balance bracket, DRO bracket (Exposure modes employed by the photographer to control the optimal aperture, shutter speed, ISO, and other settings for capturing specific subjects/scenes. Examples include Aperture-Priority, Macro, and Manual modes.)
    • Panorama Mode: true
    • Scene Modes: Portrait, Sports action, Macro, Landscape, Sunset, Night scene, Handheld twilight, Night portrait, Anti-motion blur (Exposure modes with predetermined optimal settings for capturing specific scenes. Examples include Landcape, Portrait, and Sports modes.)
    • White Balance Modes: Auto / Daylight / Shade / Cloudy / Incandescent / Fluorescent (Warm White / Cool White / Day White / Daylight) / Flash /Underwater/ Color Temperature (2500 to 9900K) & color filter (G7 to M7 (57-step), A7 to B7 (29-step)) / Custom (Settings that calibrates how the color white is rendered in an image/video, reducing the appearance of unnatural contrasts caused by various light sources.)

Q: Can this camera record videos in 4K?

A: Yes, this camera offers 4K movie recording in the Super 35mm format.

Q: Does this camera have a touch screen?

A: Yes, this camera features a 2.95" wide-angle touch LCD monitor.

Q: What lens comes with the Sony Alpha a6400 mirrorless camera?

A: This camera comes with an E 18-135mm lens.

Q: What is the image sensor size of this camera?

A: The camera has an APS-C size image sensor (23.6 x 15.7 mm).

Q: What is the maximum ISO sensitivity of this Sony camera?

A: The maximum ISO sensitivity is 32,000, expandable to 102,400.

Q: How long can this camera continously record? I'm looking for a dslr for streaming

A: The Sony A6400 no longer has a recording limit, so theoretically you can record until the battery dies or SD card fills up. I've heard it does have a tendency of overheating when recording in 4k 30p @100MBPS, which isn't surprising because its a small body with so much tech. But I assume it'll be fine with 1080p at 60fps and 120fps.

Q: Can this camera transfer videos and images from the camera to a IPhone? Either by Bluetooth or wire connection?

A: Hi Lydia, Sony's commitment to customer satisfaction is our top priority. The camera can be connected via wireless connection using Imaging Edge Mobile app available on Apple App Store to transfer videos and images. Thank you so much for your question. And thank you for choosing Sony.

Q: Does this camera have image stabilization?

A: No, that was a major complaint. Just get OSS lens

    Great for anyone

Mostly based on prior experience with Sony a7: To cut it short: a6400 is MUCH BETTER! When I bought my first camera (Sony a7), I had limited money and was too caught up in the idea of getting a full frame camera to be a “real” photographer. Although the a7 with the kit lens did take good photos, it is unbeatable to a6400 that has so much more features. (not to mention cheaper lens options!) If you’re trying to decide between this or older versions of full frame (since they’re similar budgets), I would definitely recommend this one (unless you want to take a lot of night pictures—a7 does slightly better in low light, but even so, you should save up to buy the a7s or something better given that you’re already going to spend 1k on these…for amateurs like me though a6400 is perfectly fine even for night photos) Some features that I love on the a6400: -SHARP images (the sharpness of a6400 kit lens is no where near the a7 ones) -and thus GREAT AUTOFOCUS (tracking focus even in video) -versatility of 18-135mm kit lens (honestly if you were to just use a single lens this would do mostly everything for you) -silent shutter!! (Underrated feature, since I didn’t realize at first how inconvenient it was to NOT have it on the a7) -in-built flash -flippable screen! (for that selfie) -touch screen (only in shooting mode-you can touch what you want to focus on) And if you have some extra cash to spend on, buy the Sigma 16mm F/1.4 (takes ultra crisp images + perfect bokeh) I couldn’t be any more happier with my current lineup of Sony a6400 + 18-135mm kit lens + Sigma 16mm lens. My only complaint for the a6400 is the horizontal banding/rolling shutter in some photos (esp under artificial light/ silent shutter mode). If buying, I suggest you look it up to see how you can prevent it. Even if you’re starting out or already a professional, I would definitely recommend this camera.

    Lots of camera for $900.

Love the animal auto-eye focus available in a download. Features galore. Short life battery so get spares. The glass side of the flip screen is always exposed. Canon M-50 allows you to hide the screen side. Stunning clarity with the 18-135mm kit lens. SD card is not that easy to extract. Overall, well worth the money. Canon and Nikon are playing catchup in the auto-eye focus area.
