    Unreliable Blue-ray Player

I have purchased two of these little demons within the last 2 years. The first one hung up within the first few months of using it. We could not access the disk in the drive and had to have someone dismantle the machine to rescue our disk. We sent it back to Sony, and thy replaced it or gave us a refurbished player. In December 2017 (it is April 2018 now), I bought a second player for another television. I was hopeful that we would not have any issues with this one. Four months after purchase, this one began freezing if I left Netflix paused for too long. This only happened two or three times (in the same week) before it completely shut down on me. I tried the power button, but it would not work. Neither would the remote. I was determined though! I unplugged it and plugged it in several times. Each time, I would get a little closer to Netflix. The first few times, it would make its devilish little clicking sounds I think were actually it cackling at me, then it would display the Sony Blu-ray symbol for a few seconds, reboot again, and finally shut down. I finally got it to boot. It had no! All my information had been erased, so I suppose the entire system reset to factory settings. I stared into its black, empty depths from my display, but I was still determined to conquer it! I painstakingly logged in Netflix, inputting my e-mail and password, one-character-at-a-time. I made it to the select user screen, and it froze! I went through the unplug/plug in routine again and got it back up. Surprise! It had once again erased all my information, so I had to enter it once again. By then, I wanted to throw the little evil box out the window of a tall building, but I was only in my house where it would not have done the amount of damage I wanted to inflict upon this evil machine! However, I finally made it to Netflix, and I was even able to start watching a program. Yes!!! Then, within the first few minutes of watching it, it once again froze! I haven't touched it since I unplugged it after the final freeze. Now, I will have to return this one to Sony. BUYER BEWARE!!! DO NOT BUY THIS!

    "DO NOT BUY"

What i am going to say in this review is all true about this Blu Ray player and don't make the same mistake i did and buy it.I narrowed my search down to three Blu Ray players and this was my #1 choice. Now i did read the reviews on all three and there were several reviews for this player that stated while playing a DVD the movie would stop several times while watching. So today i bought this unit hooked it up and around 6 pm i put in Return Of The Jedi for my wife to watch and within 40 min of her watching the movie this player stopped 27 times she counted them as the unit stopped and each time the picture would go away for about 2-3 seconds with no sound and then resume playing. So i wanted to see this myself and in less then 2 min as i watched it did it 3 more times so at that point i realized those reviews i read about this problem were all true.So I disconnected the unit and drove back to Best Buy and exchanged it for another brand put the movie back in and she finished it without any issues. What disturbs me the most about this issue is it is made by Sony one of the top names in the field and to read about this issue and then for my wife to see it 27 times and then myself another 3 times is the reason why i am writing this negative review to explain to others to stay clear of this Blu Ray.There were 4 units on the shelve when i went in the store to look and 2 of them had open box marked on them so that was a sign they must have been bought and returned for the same issue i was having.I wanted to replace my older Blu Ray in our bedroom with a cheaper player that was more current but as it turned out it was a nightmare.Hope this helps those that are thinking about this one.

Hi Deno! We are sorry to hear this issue with your unit. This problem is related to the network connection issue. To isolate this problem, you can follow how to do the power reset and be refreshing the internet connection:

Good player; Don't buy to stream Netflix

For blu-rays, the player looks and sounds great. But I already had a nice player. I bought this one for Netflix streaming, as I don't have a smart tv. Well, the video will load and play great, but the download speed to the player ranges from 16-26 mbps. For HD video, Netflix wants 20 mbps consistently. I have 300 mbps download speeds from my isp, and my wireless computer is testing at about 295 mbps. I've spent hours on the phone with Netflix, Sony, and my isp. My isp has sent two technicians over to check the lines. All consensus is that the problem is the blu ray player itself. After doing some research, I've learned that when you stream Netflix on a Sony player, it passes through Sony servers, then to Netflix servers, back to Sony servers, then to your machine. During the travel through Sony's servers, much of the speed is lost, and causes an intermittent pixelated picture to the point where it's hard to recognize. The problem isn't the player itself, but how Sony processes Netflix information. Sony hung up on me yesterday when I asked repeatedly why Sony's servers are involved in the process. They have been no help at all.

I love this DVD Blu-ray player

I was debating on which one to buy from Best Buy and picked the Sony DVD Blu-Ray player. I am so glad I did. the other models I bought before are so slow loading and opening of door. This one plays all my DVD, Blu-ray, and CD music which I have lots of. This is a very small DVD Blu-ray player but it is awesome. It tucks neatly under my 43 in insigna TV I got from Best Buy. these two items together make one awesome picture. And you can control the picture quality to suit your needs very easily from the remote. I like Samsung but sorry this one wins. I have never heard of insignia but I went to BestBuy and took this one home for less than $200 plugged it into my Sony DVD player from Best Buy and I was amazed. And I have Wi-Fi I can plug it in to the DVD player directly and I now get Netflix which is very popular for me. The DVD player does not do over-the-air wifi-only direct plug-in to DVD player. Which made it easy and perfect for me so simple to use and the DVD player opens quickly closes quickly and plays the Blu-ray quickly compared to the Samsung I had. So now I just push the button the door opens i can put a CD music in and it plays quick. I got a discount when I bought the 43 inch TV and DVD I only paid 250 for both I am very happy with this combo. Highly recommended. Super easy setup. I bought a$19 flat panel window antenna and I get 20 channels. Awesome love it.

Works well, just be careful with setup

I bought this Blu-Ray player for my parents. All of my home theater components are Sony. My parents have a Panasonic TV. But I still went with the Sony Blu-Ray player. Even though the TV is not a Sony, the two units work well together. Turning on the Blu-Ray player causes the TV to automatically switch to the Blu-Ray player input, which is great. I wasn't sure that would happen with a Panasonic. The only issue is that you must be careful when setting up. There is a very specific order to be followed when connecting and turning on for the first time. Initially, my setup was unsuccessful - there was a picture but no sound. Make sure the device initializes when you first turn it on. If it doesn't, then turn it off and go through the steps again, making sure to follow the proper sequence.

    Very Disappointed

Purchased this as an upgrade from an older Samsung blue-ray player...I wish I had stuck with Samsung! To be honest...this is the worst experience with a piece of technology I have ever had. The blue-ray player freezes almost every night, and when iit does, it kicks me out of all of the apps and I have to log in all over again. It's gotten so bad that I have had to go online with several accounts and "deactivate" the device because it was on there seven or eight times! There are also times when it will work fine, but the next day I turn it on, it will be logged out of all the apps again. I have to re-connect it to my wireless almost every day. I have a smart TV in another room that never has any issue - I can stream all day in any app without complaint. Previous blue-ray player had no problems streaming or staying connected either. I am really disappointed with this purchase and do not recommend this product. It is incredibly frustrating!

    Good player for little money

I bought this Sony Blu-ray player because I had inadvertently purchased some movies that were Blu-ray, not DVD. I didn't want to spend very much money, but wanted a decent player that would also play DVD's and other formats if necessary. Sony has a history of producing quality products, and this player had overall good reviews plus was still under $100 when including the HDMI cable. I was shocked at how small and light it is. I have it sitting directly on top of my old DVD player, which I'm glad I kept because some DVD's, especially older ones, don't play well on it. The picture isn't as sharp as on my old player with those discs. It was incredibly easy to set up and works fine with my Samsung smart tv. One drawback is that you have to use the remote for everything, so don't lose it. Overall, it's a good, basic player, but don't trash your DVD player because you will still need it for some discs.

    Works OK, but... Ummm...

Ok- so, one of the big sales pitches about this is that it has streaming options - it requires a wired connection & due to my set-up I've not tried that so cannot review it. The DVDs & BluRays I've played have worked, but the eject & loads seem to take a little time & the machine sometimes plays a little game of maybe not ejecting or turning of or on the first few times the unit buttons or remote control is used to issue these basic function commands when the remote clearly works well enough for each other thing, batteries working fine, etc., and the buttons on the machine don't work consistently either- sometimes the device responds quickly by them & others, take about a shrug & a deep sigh & then, "oh I guess it decided to work after all." Kinda of thing. Weird. But yeah- maybe it that amount of time I reconsider whether I don't just want to use my Roku instead & stream something wirelessly that way since it's much less convenient for me to re-wire my internet set-up so I am stream it through this device - kinda silly.
