CAN'T BEAT IT WITHA STICK!
Posted .Okay, let me start by saying that this is a great system! I bought this on Thanksgiving for $279.99 with free shipping, awesome! (no standing in line in the cold at 3 a.m.) I received this on monday, so pretty fast shipping! This system comes in a HUGE box and weighs about 67 lbs, so if you buy in-store bring a friend. This system will take some time to set-up, from taking all the parts out and unwrapping them to calibration, allow yourself atleast 2 hrs. Set-up does take time but it'S very easy and rewarding! Now some have said they didn't like the sound. I personally think its sounds incredible, the subwoofer "IS" boomin', the kind of bass you can feel (just like I like it)! Music is my primary use but I also wanted a home theater for gaming and movies. This fits the bill nicely. It could use more inputs/outputs! It doesn't have HDMI in, (only out) so I had to connect PS3 sound via optical (picture via HDMI). There is only one optical input which could be a problem for some but I don't use the DVD player (I watch blu-ray via PS3) so it's not a big deal. Also because of the lack of optical I had to connect regular television sound via audio cable, again no big deal. The only things I can complain about are that the speaker wires are a bit too short (barely reached, one didn't come close), but an easy fix! The other (and HUGE) complaint is that the "ipod" dock is not compatible with WALKMAN (Sony's product)! Duh, what the hell Sony?, I buy only Sony electronics (BRAVIA,DAV,PSP PS3, WALKMAN) and this is the thanks I get? Why would you make a home theater system /dock that is not compatible with your product (walkman)? This is just down right stupid, the dock is totally useless to me! Other than that no complaints. And yeah, it looks GREAT too! Oh let me not forget to mention if you do have a Sony Bravia television you can program your tv remote to operate this system. I hope my review helps someone in their decision one way or another, I know they (the reviews) convinced me this was a good choice. I do believe if you do decide to purchase this system you will be very pleased!

Surround Sound
Posted .This is why I watch movies and play games, Surround Sound! This system is in our living room and when we watch movies it is real. We have a Samsung Flatscreen and our system is hooked up by an optical cable. Optical is the best digital connection out there and is neccessary for surround sound. When we watch movies, It is like you are there. The surround you get is very accurate and it makes you feel like you are in a soundfield. The subwoofer in Home Theatre Systems is what brings the movie to life. This sub is powerful, and dynamic. No matter where you are, you can feel the rumble. The bass from the sub is clear and free of distortion. Playing games is a whole different experience, especially shooting games. If you have a PS2 or PS3 and an Optical Cable, hook the cable directly to your optical out on your playstation and sit back and enjoy. When you set off C4, the sub rumbles and you can hear each individual grain of sand hit the ground. When somebody shoots and hits you, the sound moves from the front speakers and literally sounds like it stops at you where ever you are sitting. When somebody misses you, you can hear it get distant in the rear speakers. That is another bonus, the rear satellites are wireless. Don't ever forget to turn on the rear satellite reciever. When I play on the Wii, I use my iPod to listen to listen to music. The iPod dock has basic sound quality. I have the Monster 800 aux cable and I use the auxilliary input on the receiver. The sound is much better, but only because of the cable. The sound is good, and the bass is banging. I listen to rap and when I crank it up, the walls shake. There is a screw missing on the metal grill on the laundry room door, which is what the sub sits next to, and you can easily hear that thing rattle. The bass is clear and powerful. It will make you want to play longer just because of the sound quality of your music. When ever you use this system , don't forget to set your sound mode. The modes are auto, movie, and, music. These do help and should be set. It is as easy as the press of the button on the remote.

Great system
Posted .I really enjoy my Sony surround sound system, whether I'm watching a movie, or playing a game, this system delivers. My mom came over and wanted to know what a surround system was, so i popped in Polar express (the scene where the train is skidding on the ice) and I cranked it up. Let's just say, she put the surround sound system top of her wishlist! I have the second base downstairs, so when I'm watching TV and it goes to commercials, I can go downstairs and turn second base on and fix myself a snack, this way i can tell when my show is back on. At night when i don't want to disturb anyone, I can simply plug my headphones into the wireless rear station. Another cool feature is the night mode, which turns off the bass, but still delivers good quality sound.

Nice and easy
Posted .I usually don't write reviews, but I was very impressed with the ease of set up, the price and of course the sound. This is my first home theater unit so I don't have anything to compare it to, but it sounds AWESOME to me! There was a previous post that talked about how it was impossible to hook up sound through the TV, I was having issues too, but then realized you need to have audio cables ( red and white) as output from the TV to the home theater unit. Then ensure it is on TV/Video and it will bypass your TV audio and go through the surround sound speakers. It was and easy set up, looks great and sounds awesome! The DM port also charges my Nano and Ipod touch! Great sound through those too! Very happy with this purchase, you will be too for an inexpensive home theater option!

awesome audio set up to complement a tv
Posted .last year i bought a ps3 and decided i needed a proper tv to get everything out of the ps3, so about 3 months i bought a samsung plasma. it had great video but the sound quality didn't match the picture, which i knew before buying. after shopping around for months i saw this sony 5.1 system on sale during black friday. it was $150 off and i knew i had to jump on this deal. when i bought the system, i had used my 2 gift cards to drop down my cost of payment a bit. when it was all said and down, i had purchased the unit at 60% off, something i thought was a killer buy. my current set up is ps3 to tv via hdmi, tv to the sony unit via optical cable. this is probably the best way to set everything up for my situation and i get awesome sound when watching tv or movies or when i play video games. i don't have the speakers in the ideal set up quite yet but ive only had it for about a week. i like the rear speakers being wireless. i've already got a coaxial cable running straight across my room that i always trip over so i'm glad i don't have more. one thing i was was that the sony remotes be universal among their products, its kind of lame to have a remote for the ps3 and a remote for the sound system, but i guess i need to just pony up and buy a universal remote or something.

Great System
Posted .I just bought one of these to go with my 46" Sony Bravia TV. A MUST if you have a Bravia. I hooked it all up, turned everything on. TV, Satellite box, and Sound system. Since the TV is a Bravia, it automatically communicated with the system and the volume on the TV cuts off and goes to external speakers only automatically! No menu, no adjustments, automatic. Since I have satellite, I use the satellite remote. Now since the TV and System communicated, when I turn the TV off, the System turns off. When I turn TV on, the system comes on. No programming remotes, or anything. Awesome!!! For satelllite box users, remember to get a fiber optic cable to send the sound from the Satellite box to the System. The HDMI you hook up is only for when you're playing DVDs. Took no time at all and all speaker wires are color coded for easy use. All Sony Bravia owners should go out and get one. The price is good for all in one. My last system was from the late '90s when you bought the receiver, CD changer, DVD player, speakers and sub. This was expensive! My old sub costs about as much as this whole system.

MUST HAVE stereo system !!
Posted .This is a must have stereo system, especially if you have other Sony products hooked to it. They all sync together and you only need one remote. If you turn on any other Sony product, it automatically switches to the correct speaker mode. Well worth the price. I got it about 2 months ago and couldn't be happier with it!! (My neighbors probably hate me) Easy to set up, just follow the manual. I did it in one evening. No problem setting up the wireless speakers, either. Fantastic surround sound, although it took me a few tries to calibrate the surround sound to my liking. I didn't prefer calibrating with the microphone in the middle of the room as suggested. Great Bass. Speakers are small and don't take up a lot of room - can also be mounted. The only complaint is that the iPod dock cord is short. I would have liked it to reach further. The iTunes controls will work with the included remote, but if you want to listen to music through another app (like Sirius), you have to get up every time to change songs (a longer cord would solve the problem). Overall, a superior product worth 10 stars

Great as far as the technology allows
Posted .Don't let the term wireless deceive you; the back speakers are required wired connections to the 'remote receiver' which requires an AC outlet. So your rear 'wireless' speakers are essentially connected to one another through the wireless receiver. technology is quite at the point were sound at a higher volume can be carried in a true wireless connection. The wires that are supplied are much shorter than my old system and are not adequate for my size living room. I had to splice wires together for 2 of the speakers. It is the nature of the technology but the frequency to the main unit causes interference to my wireless network. This would also be true for phones, microwaves etc. It is a bit frustrating because I use my laptop right in the center of the surround set up. The system does allow for you to select the preferred range (1, 7 or 12) and turn off the auto detect. If your router allows for advanced configuration you can set the WiFi frequency to be carried on the furthers most point from the selection on the Sony. This will minimize the interference but not eliminate it. The shortcomings of the system (with the exception of the wires being to short) are standard for where the technology is today so I would say overall it is a GREAT system. The specs on it where comparable to the JVC system it replaced and the sound quality is noticeably superior.
