I recently bought this BD player and wanted to wait a few weeks before writing a review. I'll begin with the positives. It is really nice to put all my 300+ movies into this machine because it has literally cleared both bookshelves in the living room. You can load the discs then put the cases into storage which is great - and was an excellent selling point to my skeptical female counterpart. The picture and audio quality was noticeably better than my standard DVD player, even before I got a nicer TV you could tell the difference which was most shocking to me. Now for the cons...It's pretty slow to turn on, load, etc. This is easier to deal with due to the fact that I no longer have to get off my rear to pick out a movie. (Hey, I work long hours don't judge me.) The gracenote service failed to recognize around 15 out of 300 discs so you have to manually enter them. (To be fair, some of these titles were some real B-film trash. However, it failed to pull up a picture for "Zombieland" which is a relatively new release and almost inexcusable.) Also a negative, the remote is very difficult to use in the dark due to the fact that it's not backlit. Also it is about as long as a sub sandwich so it's not natural in the hand. The remote would have been a thousand times better backlit. The pros far outweigh the cons when it comes to this machine. No regrets. When my collection expands I'll look to buy another one; or it's replacement model.

I recently purchased this unit after needing to replace an older Sony dvd changer. While I was not looking forward to spending money that I had not planned on, I did like the fact that I would be purchasing a new gadget and as my bluray collection is growing larger, I figured it would be a good investment. Immediately I noticed just how large in comparison to my older unit this one is. I also noticed how the exterior knobs had been slimmed down and some had been eliminated altogether. Upon completing alterations to my entertainment unit to allow for the extra height, I began to set it up. I was a little bit disappointed to see that in todays high tech market, this unit does not have streaming capabilities for Netflix, youtube etc..... or even wifi. (Not a big deal for me as I already own a single disc unit for this purpose but still) I also ran into the issue that every time I hit the power button it would cause both the changer and my Sony BDP-S570 BluRay single disc player to turn on or off causing interference and confusion to my system since my Pioneer Elite Vsx-33 automatically switches whenever a HDMI enabled unit is turned on. I then noticed that this unit does not come with a manual switch to allow for multiple unit hook ups like my older unit did. I tried changing the position of the changer to no avail as it still caused interference. After a few days of angst and just before deciding to change out the single disc player to a different brand, I decided to check the owners manual and to my surprise I hit the jack pot. I was able to follow the easy steps and after a couple of minutes, I was able to change over the settings of the changer and remote. Once that was done, I started feeling a lot better and a smile came to my face along with a bit of an audible cheer. This in the past, I began to connect the ethernet cable for a software update and to begin the Gracenote function of labeling my discs. After what turned out to be almost 2 hours the changer completed it's function. I pleasantly started going through the tittles till my wife pointed out that they were not all in numerical order. After further inspection I noticed that some of my discs were not only in the wrong numerical order but had not registered which really bummed me out. I had heard others complain of this same issue which while I can understand my older dvd's, I just can't understand the newer Bluray titles not registering. While I think the picture and sound quality are excellent, I do find the loading time to be a bit slow. There is an option to speed this up but requires power to continue being consumed and the cooling fan to continue running while the unit is off. (Not something that I really want to entertain as I think this could cut down on it's life expectancy. I do feel (for the money), over all, this unit is a good one and probably the best option out there for multiple disc storage but until they work out some of the kinks and add what now has become standard (wifi, live streaming etc...) there still is a bit to be desired but over all, I would still recommend this unit and would even consider purchasing a second one if needed.

I purchased this direct from the Sandy, UT BestBuy, where they matched web pricing. It is much quieter that my two Sony DVPCX995V's, and faster. Regardless if you have a DVD or BlueRay disk inserted, it is slower to load up, but that is due to the handling mechanism, and it having to rotate to your selected media. The remote functions are similar to that of the DVPCX995V, with more. So if you are confused by complicated remotes, you will probably do most of your disk selections by hand at the changer. The network connection is a major add, although I have not set mine up yet, being able to search IMDB to catalog my collection will be worth the investment. At the retail pricing this unit should have Sony's ES series labeling. I run it through a Denon AVR2809CI and onto a Sharp Aquos LC54D85U LCD TV. Without instruments and by eye only, the signal is lossless with or without the receiver in the loop. So far I am getting what I expected from this player, and have no regrets staying with the Sony product line for media handling.
