Great Surprise in a Small Package
Posted .Pros mentioned:Portable, Price, SizeLet me start by saying WOW, this little tiny speaker sounds this good! I was very impressed how rich the sound this little thing can produce and is pretty loud too. It is so small you can take it almost anywhere and it fits in your hand, it also comes with a lanyard that you can use to hang it. Speaker has 4 buttons on the top the Power/Paring, Play/Pause and the Up/Down volume buttons. On the side is a rubber cover that protects the micro USB socket for charging, and the AUX port. Paring is simple hold down the paring button, you will see the light bilking under the front grill, on your phone under you Bluetooth setting look for the speaker and pair it, once paired light will stay solid. In the package it comes with small iconic instruction manual, the speaker, lanyard and the micro USB cable. The only downside that I found was that it did not come with an A/C adapter, I used the one that came with my S9+ so far so good. I also used a longer micro USB cable because the one included is too small for my taste. This speaker is rated IPX5 which is water splash not proof so don’t try to submerge this thing in the water. If you’re looking for small, portable, lightweight, good sound at a budget price this little thing at $35 would do the work I was very impressed, Sony did a good job on this one definitely recommend this. Pros: Sound quality Size & Weight Portability Battery Life Ease of Use Cons: Small Charging Cable No A/C adapter

Small but Loud Enough
Posted .Pros mentioned:Portable, Price, Size---SETUP--- The setup for Sony’s SRS XBO1 portable speaker was quick. After turning it on, the speaker starts looking for a device with bluetooth automatically, like a phone, tablet, or PC. ---FEATURES--- The key feature of this speaker is how small and portable it is without sacrificing good quality sound. It also has an auxiliary port for devices that may not have bluetooth and can be charged with any micro USB cable you may have lying around. ---PERFORMANCE--- The performance of this speaker is excellent for its size. The loudness of the speaker is about as loud as you would comfortable play audio in your own car. During my listening sessions, I didn’t hear the audio drop or lose connection with my bluetooth devices. During the playback of movies or podcasts, it works great. For music, as long as you aren’t listening to things with too much bass, it should work fine as well. ---EXPECTATIONS--- The product meets my expectations. I took the speaker to the gym to listen to my shows and not have to put on headphones. I could hear my movie comfortably enough and it wasn’t so loud that it was bothering others around me. Since I took it out of the package, I haven’t had to charge it and I’ve been playing about 5 hours of content on it. ---VALUE--- The price for the speaker in terms of value makes it an accessible, great gift for the upcoming festivities or gadget lovers. ---APPROVAL--- I highly recommend this product for people who want to have a little extra sound for their laptop or mobile phone while at work or for those who want to give gifts to their co-workers, friends, and relatives.

Quality4 out of 5Value5 out of 5Ease of Use5 out of 5Lots of sound for such a little speaker. It was perfect for my son to stream his music. He loves the colors and the string handle. I only wish there was a way to improve the charging port (on lots of electronics) to be more kids friendly.

Small and lightweight, but lacking bass
Posted .Pros mentioned:Portable, Sound qualityCons mentioned:FeaturesSound Quality----- At just a fraction of the size of the SRS-XB31, the SRS-XB01 can't compete with the sound quality of its bigger brothers. Sound is more "tinny" and bass is lacking. The speaker can get somewhat loud and can fill a small to medium-sized room, but it won't be powerful enough for parties or for entertaining a crowd. Despite this, the sound is still better than my iPhone's speaker and I find this speaker handy for carrying around the house to listen to music or podcasts. I would rate the sound about on par with the Anker SoundCore Mini 2. Bass Performance----- Despite the "Extra Bass" verbiage in this speaker's marketing, the bass on this speaker is lacking. It's not completely absent and, in fact, lows sound fairly good on this speaker. However, you won't get that satisfying "thump" heard in Sony's larger speakers. That's not to say that music sounds terrible on this speaker, but at a MSRP of around $35, you can't set your expectations too high. Features----- - IPX5 Water Resistant: It's not rated as high as some of speaker's larger speakers, but it is resistant to splashes (just don't submerge it in liquid). - Carrying strap: Personally one of my favorite features, the strap makes it easy to hang this speaker from a back pack while hiking or to simply tether the speaker to your wrist while working around the house. The speaker is very lightweight (5.65 oz). - Music control buttons: You can play/pause, adjust the volume and skip tracks on the speaker directly without needing to dig out your phone. - Speakerphone: The speaker has a built-in mic and can be used to answer a quick phone call by pressing the Play button while your phone is ringing. - Micro USB charging: You don't need a special cable to recharge this speaker as any Micro USB cable will do, although a USB-C port would have future-proofed it a little more. Battery Life----- The speaker gets about 6 hours of usage while listening at a medium volume. It definitely seems like Sony could have fit a larger battery inside of the unit and I'm curious as to why they didn't, as a single charge won't quite get you through the work day.

More bass please!
Posted .Great little speaker no doubt, but I have other Sony speakers that have more bass. I mean it is a small speaker, and it’s very loud. Just not that much bass, or maybe I just like a lot. :-) All in all, it’s a solid speaker. Easy to setup, and connected really fast on the first try.

Big Sound, Extra Bass in a Compact Design
Posted .Pros mentioned:Sound quality, VolumeWhen I opened this tiny speaker, I didn’t expect much of a chromatic sound. But when I turned it on and paired it with my phone, I was surprised to hear rich sound waves of varying frequencies—and bass. It is very small at approximately 3 ¼” w x 2 3/8” d x 2 ¼”h and is boxed with a strap and a micro USB cable. The mono speaker is even smaller at 1 ½”; however, it still manages to deliver a full range of tones with very little harmonic distortion, and with way more clarity than one would expect from a speaker four times plus its size. Main features of this product include Bluetooth, an Audio-In Stereo Mini Jack, a Long Battery Life, and the product’s Water-Resistant Design. Initially, a full charge was reached in a matter of minutes and subsequent repeated charging occurred quick. There also does not appear to be connection complications with the Bluetooth like I have experienced with other devices--it pairs almost instantly. I tried several different products by different manufacturers and in each case pairing the devices were effortless and the communication range extended over 30 feet. The speaker is also equipped with a microphone which allows it to be used as a speaker phone, and which also has great 2-way clarity within the communication range of up to 32’. When busy and needing to communicate on the phone, this is smaller and easier to carry from room to room than my phone. I’ve held on to my original iPod because I burned decades of my CD collection to its 160 GB hard drive to not only store my music, but to have the data to listen to without the use of the internet. Sometimes earphones are an irritant when working and I wanted to see how the iPod would work with the mini speaker. I connected the speaker and the iPod with an audio cord and it works great. The volume is somewhat limited with this type of sound connection as opposed to a higher, greater volume when using the Bluetooth capabilities; still the music is very harmonious, balanced and pleasant. The speaker enables me to listen to all my favorites at my personal workstation or where ever I wish to listen to them without the use of ear pods or the internet. The battery life almost doubles the battery life of any of my larger more dynamic sounding speakers. When using the speaker in the Bluetooth mode with all inputs sealed, the speaker’s design makes it water resistant. It is not completely waterproof, but water resistant enough to make it a great choice for the beach or pool side, especially when you wish to travel light. Weighing just under 6 ozs., this is a great little speaker for my workstation, office, kitchen, or on the go; and it surprises me that I like it as much as I do and that I have found so many uses for it that fit my lifestyle.

Q: QuestionWhat is the max range (distance) of the bluetooth connection?
Asked by Muggs.
- A:Answer Hi, Muggs! The Bluetooth device has a transmission operating range of approximately 30 feet (10 meters) within a line of sight but will vary depending on the surrounding conditions. NOTE: Communication range will vary according to whether walls or other obstacles are located between the devices, the material used in the intervening walls, the presence of Radio Frequency (RF) interference and other environmental conditions, and the type of software being used, if applicable. ~Ralph

Q: QuestionI need to know if this speaker makes a loud beep or announcement when powered on. I am looking for a speaker that is not disruptive to my office atmosphere. Thank you.
Asked by Quiet.
- A:Answer There is a short beep when powered on but a not disruptive. If you connect it to your phone for a music app, there will be a louder tone when you receive a call...still not disruptive in an office atmosphere.

Q: QuestionCan you skip songs using the volume buttons on the speaker?
Asked by Blueberry01.
- A:Answer Yes. By pressing the play/pause/call button twice quickly during playback, the XB01 will skip to the beginning of the next song. I found it necessary to wait a second or two until the next song began playing before skipping to the next song. If it registers your presses too close together (3 presses), it may think you want to go back to the beginning of the current song.
