The X70 is a fully professional camcorder in a remarkably compact package. I have been shooting professionally full time for over 16 years. My other current solid state camcorders are a Sony EX1-R and Sony NX5U, in addition to DV and DVCAM camcorders that rarely come out of retirement. The image quality from the X70 is at least as good to marginally better than my other 2 pro camcorders. I am surprised at the number of functions that are available by buttons on such a small body. Of course I take full advantage of the programmable buttons. The compact size is handy, though I do think it compromises a professional image. About the only practical technical compromises are that the internal mic cannot be selected when the XLR handle is attached, and the composite output is not full size. The menu layout and options are very similar to my NX5U, so I was generally able to grab and shoot with it right out of the box. I appreciate the full size HDMI output, SDI output, and dual card slots in such a small camera body. The layout of buttons, switches, and ports is so well designed that it really doesn't seem cramped. My wish list is short: a still shot option; but neither of my other solid state camcorders have that. I ended up buying a Sony 10X iii for that purpose. I highly recommend this camcorder.

Well, the camera needs another $500 purchase from SONY to receive their 4K license and update this camera's firmware to unlock 4K shooting! Other than that hidden line, this is a great camera for an entry level/intermediate cinematographer. As with most SONY prosumer cameras I have purchased in my years, this camera needs lighting in low light environments so keep that in mind!
