I don’t usually write reviews online but Sony deserves credit for this amazing phone! This is by far one of the most gorgeous looking devices I have owned in years! Sony sticked with its rectangular omni balance design formula but improved it with the introduction of loop design with Xperia XZ last fall. The XZ Premium improved that design formula by offering Premium build, construction and finish. Also, adding two unique world’s first technologies in a smartphone such as 4K HDR display and 960fps slow-motion video. The phone is not perfect and no phone is perfect! but the pro outweighs the cons. PROS: • Classy and premium loop surface design • 5.5" 4K HDR Display (vibrant and sharp display with impressive dynamic range on a smartphone) • Snapdragon 835 (The phone is crazy fast! And I mean fast!) • 13MP front facing camera • 19MP rear motion eye camera with predictive capture and 960fps super slow-motion videos! • Built-in digital noise cancellation for music (requires Sony DNC earbuds such as MDR-NC750) • Two Front Stereo Speakers with S-Force surround • Superior audio technologies (Hi-res audio support, DSEE HX, ClearAudio+, and LDAC) • Near Stock Android experience • Sony’s exclusive unique Multimedia apps (Music, Album and Movies) • PS4 remote play (That feature really works!) • Super-fast LTE (Tested on AT&T network) • Dual SIM support (Nano SIM) • Built in 64GB memory with expandable storage up to 256GB • Smart Stamina mode • No software gimmicks CONS: • Fingerprint reader is disabled in the US due to some mysterious reason. Luckily it is disabled by software so there is workaround to enable it without rooting the phone! • Big Bezels? They are honestly not that big as some online reviews claims, never seen them complain about iPhone bezels, but this phone utilizes that space for two good features (dedicated front stereo speakers and the use of large front camera sensor) • Front Stereo Speakers could be louder • Super slow-motion mode is best used outdoors not indoors and only limited to 720p resolution. I understand its new and groundbreaking technology in a smartphone, hopefully next follow up model will have an improved low light shooting and 1080p resolution. • Fingerprint magnet, expect to carry a microfiber cloth with you if you are not using a case to clean the phone from fingerprints. Overall, Excellent effort by Sony! it’s one of the best purchases you can make this year. If you are in the market for a premium, powerful GSM smartphone with impressive audio/multimedia features and sharp unique shooter, look no farther!

Not sure if I received a defective phone, or if Sony really went backwards on their product, but I got an xperia phone when it first came out on T-Mobile, and it did me a good job years ago. So I was in the market for another phone which offered the dual sim capability. I compared this to many others out there, and decided to make this buy BASED ON PRIOR EXPRIENCE WITH THE XPERIA LINEUP. Here's my disappointing outcome. 1) I really felt like Sony did nothing to make changes on this phone. It seemed like the same design, same functionality, with no real improvements, and not running much better than the previous phone I had years ago. 2) I heard about the fingerprint reader. Capability not offered on the phone. It's like owning a car with windows that you are unable to open or close. I heard there is software, or you can root the phone. Pass on that, rooting the phone usually voids the warranty. 3) Certain programs kept crashing. The web browser would ALWAYS error out, and I'd always have to restart it. Software was up to date, and I didn't use the phone to access any questionable sites. I tried to get a hold of Sony for help, and was told I had to bring it or send it into a repair place, and would be without a phone until it was repaired. This isn't exactly practical nor ideal. I felt like just a number to them, which really makes you understand which companies really take care of their customers, and which ones take advantage of them. I love Sony, have several TV's, the PS4, an old Vaio laptop, etc. 4) Dual SIM capability. This was my deciding factor on what TYPE of phone to buy. I had several different options, and thought this to be the best. PLEASE MAKE SURE YOU READ ALL DETAILS TO DUAL SIM PHONES. In a lot of the phones, if you use 2 sim cards, you LOSE THE CAPABILITY TO EXPAND THE PHONE'S MEMORY. Typically the second sim slot is used for EITHER a second sim, OR an expandable memory card. I know a lot of folks like the cloud storage, but in some instances, it's not practical if you have to always download information, especially if you do not have WIFI connectivity and may have poor little signal on your phone due to the area you're in. The battery seemed to do well, there's one positive. Yes the screen is pretty, graphics on the display are beautiful, colors are amazing, and are overall mesmerizing. But buy a TV for these features. Rather difficult to bring a bunch of friends over to watch a football game on a cell phone. I would recommend Sony to stick to making TV's, video games, computers, clocks, etc, but stay away from phones. There has to be a valid reason why T-Mobile won't market Sony phones after that first model (or any other major carrier, for that matter). Needless to say, I ended up returning this phone for an Asus phone which has yet to fail me. I would not recommend this to a friend, but may potentially recommend it to an enemy, if I really, really disliked them.

I had problems with two of these phones with the camera not being able to focus and also having a terrible amount of "muddy" looking photos. The DoF doesn't work properly as a standard lens should and I'm unsure if it's the software causing the problem or if I have a bad sensor. This camera is advertised the best on the market and was advertised for its low light performance. I cannot even take photos in afternoon shade without it looking like garbage. When I reached out to Sony they gave me the same run around and when I asked if I'd be able to return it under warranty and get a new one they said no and that they would make me pay to ship my phone back. Not give me a interim replacement and wait for them to look at and fix it. It wasn't worth the hassle in my opinion since I don't have a back up phone since I switched carriers for this one. The attached image was only at 2x zoom. It should not look worse than my galaxy s4 camera for $800

This has by far been the best phone I have had in a long time. I traded in the iPhone 6s towards this phone and I am glad I did. With the ability to upgrade to 256GB storage without having to pay someone to do it and the photo quality just be so much higher, I can finally get all the pictures of my family that I have wanted. On the fun side I am a PS4 owner. So I can connect my Dualshock 4 up to through Blutooth and play my PS4 wherever there is wifi with Remote Play. I also have my complete music library on this phone which allows me to easily customize Ring Tones as well as various other sounds. The dual front facing speakers are nice, but when I put on my stereo headphones, I can sit back and listen to the music with no problems. This phone has a bit of everything and I am extremely happy with it. Check out the picture below of a spider I took on the other side of a window.

The phone seemed like a great product, and my first impression was that I loved it. I have been a Sony fan, and exclusively used to buy Sony- I still have a Vaio and 2 Vaio Duo computers that are functioning great. I really wanted to keep this phone. However the phone's SIM card tray is very flimsy and cheap- the second SIM/ memory card tray pulls out easy, but the primary SIM tray is difficult to remove. If you cut your nails short, it can be challenge even to take it out. It is also difficult to seat the SIM card properly. I did get the phone running and made a few calls, the evening I bought it. everything else about the phone was good and I think better than the S8 anyday ( I now exchanged it for the S8 and dont like it). Next morning the phone stopped sensing the SIM (H20). No data- No phone calls. Wifi was still working, and t was now the most expensive tablet I have had. I first called the phone company and we reset the SIM. There was no problem with the SIM- I had an old ATT phone and this read the H2O SIM and I could use the data and also make calls. Also the SIM is working fine on the exchanged S8 that I got after returning the xperia The Sony support is not great and I didnt even bother calling them- I wiped the phone and returned it to Bestbuy, who were great and allowed me to exchange to an S8.

I bought this phone unlocked for use on the T-mobile network and have been using it for over a week. Benchmark tests put this phone as one of the fastest out there, which is expected as it has the snapdragon 935. The screen is very nice when watching 4K supported content or viewing high definition photos. You can really zoom in on the detail in camera shots or other photos. Games run phenomenally fast! I bought this phone as I don't like the edge displays on Samsung phones with the odd aspect ratio. I also wanted waterproofing which this phone has. The ps4 remote play is a nice feature as I have a Ps4 Pro, but wasn't a selling feature for me, just a nice plus. Overall I recommend this phone for someone who is looking for flagship android specs and performance, and something different from the iPhone, Samsung and LG standards.

This is an amazing phone with lot of features. I believe Sony makes great products but it's marketing is lacking. This phone is much more affordable then other premium phones in market at this time. Most premium smartphones including Apple use Sony censors for there cameras. This XZ premium has 3D image software, 960fps ,which is much ahead of iphone X 240fps. 4K screen which may be overkill for some, but some Netflix movies look awesome. It has high res audio, with amazing sound. There is design criticism but I find it a very beautiful phone. Remember even recently till iPhone 8 Apple phone was using bezel too. Overall one of the best smart phones in market, but hype around other phones and great marketing by Samsung and Apple may not make this phone a great sled, but if you are not after show off, this is a great phone.

    Worst maps experience

Purchased August 8th. Maps app would not work correctly. Would be sometimes half a mile off from where you would actually be. Wifi was in and out alot connected to a reliable network. Upon my arrival to see about exchange for the defective unit I was told by associate I would have to pay the 100 dollar diffrence because item was not same sale price from 5 days earlier. Hello....Sony has dropped these phones by 100 dollars is the reason you were selling them for 100 off. I wasnt about to give your company another 100 dollars for a phone that doesnt do gps at all. Theres an issue with this phones software and Sony needs to fix it. If the software worked correctly I would give this phone a 4. Also speakers are just as bad as the sony z5. Low volume. Come on Sony, please make a premium with good volume and software that works.I had to wind up with an s8 that is 200 less than this phone. Doesnt make sense. A
