Screen Shattered After Minor Drop
|Posted .I loved the phone, but the screen completely shattered after a minor drop. I have had about a dozen Sony phones, including the Sony Xperia Z, Z3 Compact and this Z5 Compact. Never have I cracked a screen. I'm sure it's the phone.
No, I would not recommend this to a friendRating 4 out of 5 stars with 1 review
Not Perfect, But Still Very Nice Compact Phone
Posted .I would recommend this to a friendINTERFACE I was led to believe from many reviews that the interface is clunky and obtuse, but I find it pretty slick and easy to use and very snappy. However, the first thing I did was install the update to Android 6.0 and any other system updates that were queued up. The only glitch I've noticed is not always being able to drag icons into a folder on the Home screen, but since the problem is intermittent and now that the phone is setup there won't be much more of that going on, I don't see it as a deal-breaker problem. One online review noted an extraordinarily long time to bring up the camera app. I found it acceptable at a couple of seconds – no longer than the phone it replaced. PREINSTALLED APPS Yes, this phone – like almost all other phones – comes with preinstalled apps. Typically, you'll get preinstalled apps from the operating system (Google), the device manufacturer (Sony), and the carrier (such as AT&T). In this case, since the phone is unlocked, you don't get carrier apps, which means this phone probably has fewer preinstalled apps than your last phone. The apps it does come with are very easily uninstalled (press and hold the app in the App Drawer and hit the X to uninstall). For the apps that can't be removed, put them in a folder in your App Drawer and forget about them. Yes, most preinstalled apps are stupid and worthless, but it's not the huge deal some people are making of it. HEAT As some reviews have noted, the phone does get warm under heavy loads, such as when I downloaded the 1GB OS update and all the apps I wanted on the phone. It's not uncomfortable, but you notice it, on both the palm of your hand and your fingertips when touching the screen. However, under normal usage, it has been fine. BUTTONS As noted by other reviewers, the volume buttons on the side are awkwardly placed. They should be above the power button, not below it. The power button and camera shutter release buttons are both in good places, though. The phone thankfully has no physical Home/Back/Recent Apps buttons; they are responsive, easy on the fingers, and will not wear out like a physical button. I don't know why so many phone manufacturers are still putting physical home buttons on their phones. Sony has instead utilized the lack of physical buttons to maximize the screen real estate for this tiny (by today's standards) handset. FINGERPRINT SCANNER Contrary to what the specifications say on this page, the US model does not come with a fingerprint scanner. According to the Sony rep I spoke with, it comes with neither the software nor the hardware, so there's no chance it will be enabled at a later time. She said it was removed because it didn't work very well, but she didn't elaborate if the problem was in the hardware, the software, or both. Anyway, if you need a fingerprint scanner, this is not the phone for you (unless you want to order the warranty-free international version elsewhere). KEYBOARD The onscreen keyboard looks nice, but its functionality is subpar to the keyboard on my previous phone (HTC One mini). I had to search for a replacement keyboard, ultimately settling on the Google keyboard, which is good, but not quite as good as the HTC one. SUMMARY This has been a very nice phone so far, but I'm only giving it 4/5 stars due to the awkward button placement and default keyboard issues, as well as the missing fingerprint scanner.

Amazing!
|Posted .I love Sony phones since I purchased my first one a few years ago. I was very excited to get this new version even tho I hadn't had my z1 compact long. I didn't know if there woukd be much difference with the phones released not too long from each other. Omg am I impressed with just how much more this phone can do! It's the same size but all white where the z1 had the little doors to open in silver. This version has one water tight door that houses the sim and SD card. The power button is located in the same spot but recessed so it doesn't get pushed accidentally. The battery lasts far longer. There came very few apps on the phone and it is super fast. The options and ability to work with more devices I was surprised to see as well. One neat little option in settings is an option to unlock the bootloader which normally you have to go through a hassle to get. Little extras like this are fantastic and I am so very very happy with my purchase! I haven't bought a SmartWatch yet altho I've had my eye on the Sony one of course. Apparently the 4 will b a great addition to this z5 compact so I can't wait to make that jump when it comes out because I know this phone will be amazing with it. The sound is fantastic! The z1 speakers were lacking compared to the past Sony phones I owned so I was hoping this phone woukd b better and it is amazing as a Sony be. Very much recommend this powerful beautiful phone that fits perfectly in ur pocket.

Another Excellent Sony
|Posted .I would recommend this to a friendFor the last 8 years I've used - and loved - my Sony Ericsson W810i 'candy bar' phone, and only replaced it because its 2G network is being taken down by AT&T. Love Sony products, so I kept watching their phone models. I was not happy with 5 inch+ screens sizes, so looked for a 'compact' size; this Z5 is 4.6". Its specs are fantastic, including but not limited to: 4G LTE of course, latest Android OS available for it, 32GB memory (plus SDXC card availability - I added another 32GB card for all my video & pics), 4K video ability, better waterproof rating than currently highly-touted Galaxy S7 (http://www.trustedreviews.com/opinions/what-is-ip68-ip-ratings-explained), and a higher capacity battery than similar (even larger) phones. Unfortunately? it's not offered by AT&T or Verizon so I bought it outright, and because it's not a high-volume seller, finding a good protective case has taken some research. The best so far (OEAGO dual-layer) unfortunately screws up the flash, but I've got my 4th & 5th cases on order to test. I'm also happy with Sony's quick answers to my questions.

Great little phone!
|Posted .I would recommend this to a friendChose the Compact for its size, wanted something that would fit in a pocket. If I had wanted a megascreen I could have gotten a tablet instead. Nice phone, solid feel, does everything it needs to do very well. A special mention for the excellent camera. Really good battery life too. This was my first Android, it's so much more intuitive than iOS and Windows Mobile. If I could wish for more, it would be dual SIM and that AT&T allowed me to make Wi-Fi calls. But all in all a phone I'm really happy with, just like I was with the good old Sony Ericsson phones in days long gone.

Best under 5 inch phone ever
Posted .I would recommend this to a friendThis Sony phone is only sold through 3 large outlets (Best Buy, Amazon and B&H) other than Ebay etc and not through any carrier. Also, while there are a bunch of superlative reviews (especially from Europe), there are also a number of negative reports (such as easy to crack, heating issues, camera problem, lack of fingerprint reader in the US version). So it was with trepidation that I bought it. I am extremely happy that I did. So far, I see no heating issues, and the phone is beautiful - it fits in my hand and pocket, very responsive, and the camera is fast and takes great pictures. US warranty is important to me, and I am glad that I went for this US version instead of the imported version with no US warranty (available through many third parties for slightly less and with a fingerprint reader too). I was able to update to Android 6.0 (Marshmallow) over the air on the day I received it. I also put a nice transparent case and screen protector on and added a micro sd card in it immediately (bought separately). Haven't tested its water/dust proof ability (and do not intend to test it actively!) or the hi-res audio yet. I am just a happy customer; this phone is much more satisfactory than the trusty iPhone 5s that I had for some years.

excellent for the compact size
|Posted .I would recommend this to a friendThis phone has the best specs for its compact size factor. There may be better, big flagship phones out there but this is as good as it gets for a compact phone! Up to 200GB SD expansion slot allows plenty of photos, videos, and audiobooks for me. I really like Sony's GUI. More unique than generic Android and much cless clunky compared to Samsung's system. P.S. From trying a bunch of different phones, I feel like Sony phones have the best camera and true-to-color displays. This may not be a "premium" phone but the pictures turn out better than an iPhone 6S!

A very nice phone.
Posted .I would recommend this to a friendI have thoroughly enjoyed this phone. I definitely don't EVER want a phone any larger than this. It is the perfect size for carrying in a belt clip and still works well for talking; texting, viewing and searching. I haven't had any of the issues that some reviewers have had except very slight warming but it seems quite normal to me. With any high end electronic device, if you make it work, it gets a little warm. I have not tried the 4K video so that may cause the overheating issue. My only complaints and reason for 4 stars, are the lack of finger print reader on the USA phone and the camera being like a phone camera. I was hoping to be able to leave the dedicated camera at home sometimes but that is not the case. For emergency pics you want to post or text, it is fine, but I expected a much better camera from Sony. I do LOVE the dedicated camera button, and the volume actuated zoom. Very handy. I also enjoy the REAL FM radio. Only wish they could have figured out a way to incorporate the antenna in the phone so I could listen through the speakers. Overall, a perfect size phone that works well.
Q: QuestionDoes this phone have a fm radio

- A:Answer Yes. Wired headset needs to be connected however to act as the antenna.

Q: QuestionDoes it come with fingerprint sensor? On all websites is said that the US version has no fingerprint sensor. Only best buy says their version is with fingerprint. Is this a mistake on the website or not? Thank you
Asked by paul.
- A:Answer Oops ... that should have read as: No. Per the Sony Developer White Paper for Z5 Compact, the fingerprint sensor is NOT supported on E5803 USA model. Only E5823. Best Buy Specs need to be revised.
