Synopsis

First Blood
First Blood is the Sylvester Stallone film that unleashed "Rambo" onto an unsuspecting world. Wandering into a small, hostile town, ex-Green Beret John Rambo (Stallone) is targeted for persecution and abuse by potbellied Sheriff Will Teasle (Brian Dennehy). When he can stand no more, Rambo goes bonkers, killing a deputy and heading into the surrounding hills, armed to the teeth. Only after Rambo has picked off practically every law enforcement officer within a radius of 50 miles do the local authorities bring in his former commanding officer, Trautman (Richard Crenna), for advice. Trautman's response -- that the locals had better get a lot of body bags ready -- is hardly encouraging. First Blood proved to be one of Stallone's biggest non-Rocky hits. Kirk Douglas had originally been cast as Trautman, but he quit the project when the producers refused to cave in to his demand that Trautman kill Rambo in the finale. ~ Hal Erickson, Rovi

Cop Land
The second film from writer/director James Mangold, the corruption drama Cop Land stars Sylvester Stallone as Freddy Heflin, the much-denigrated sheriff of tiny Garrison, NJ, a community which -- thanks to a technicality -- is populated almost entirely by members of the New York City Police Department. When young cop Murray "Superboy" Babitch (Michael Rapaport) becomes embroiled in a controversial shoot-out which leaves two black youths dead, he apparently commits suicide rather than face the wrath of an official investigation. In reality, however, he flees to safety back home in Garrison. In the wake of the controversial events, NYPD Internal Affairs lieutenant Moe Tilden (Robert De Niro) arrives in Garrison to uncover the truth, attempting to enlist Freddy to help watch the watchmen, including Superboy's uncle, veteran cop Ray Donlan (Harvey Keitel); coked-out Gary Figgis (Ray Liotta); and Joey Randone (Peter Berg), the husband of the woman (Annabella Sciorra) Freddy loved and lost. A rich, complex film about redemption, Cop Land's portrayal of Freddy's struggles to prove his worth mirrors Stallone's own return to thoughtful, character-driven drama after years of vacuous action roles. Like Freddy, he faces an uphill battle, fighting for respectability in the face of a superb cast including Janeane Garofalo, Cathy Moriarty, and Paul Calderon. ~ Jason Ankeny, Rovi

Lock Up
Sylvester Stallone is a tough but essentially decent convict in a relatively humane prison. He's on such good terms with the authorities that he's occasionally allowed a weekend furlough. This idyllic situation ends abruptly when he's transferred to a nasty prison run by sadistic warden Donald Sutherland (remember way back when Sutherland played good guys and Stallone played secondary hoodlums?) Harboring a grudge against Sly over an unfortunate incident at another prison, Sutherland does everything he can to make Stallone's term a Hell on Earth. But in the end, it is Sutherland who is Stallone's prisoner--and, since Sly's name comes first on the credits, it is Sutherland who blubberingly confesses to a string of crimes perpetrated on the helpless inmates. ~ Hal Erickson, Rovi

What's not to like; Cop Land- Sly has to plump up a little for this one about a wanna be legitimate cop that's stuck with being a Sheriff in a small town full of corrupt big city cops. First Blood-John Rambo just wants to be left alone. And the cops in a small town go and make him mad. Not good; for them. Lock Up- Let's just say in the battle of wills between a wacko warden who, some might say, has let his little bit of power go to his head, and a convict who might or might not have been wrongly convicted, they don't quite see eye to eye on things and the sparks fly. Good stuff!

The remake of the three Stallone movies in Blu-ray version is an OK purchase if you intend to collect all of his movies. The main problem is unlike some of the other blu-ray remakes, these movies are still not quite there as far as blu-ray quality. Feels more like a DVD quality to be honest, a good comparison is 007 in blu-ray, the image and sound quality is quite different. Granted, these are old movies which were made in the 80s, but still if it is a blu-ray remake, customers are expecting higher image quality, which is not the case here.

Not much to say here, Copland is fantastic and a departure from the usual action hero movie that Sly does. First Blood, the best of them all Lock Up is another film where Sly is not the usual action hero, one of the better prison films and one of the best Sly has done

I picked this up mostly for Cop Land, but for the same price I also got First Blood and Lock Up for free. They're basically the same discs as the individual releases, but packaged together at a really good price.
