Synopsis

Adventures of Gallant Bess
Bearing little relation to the 1946 MGM production Gallant Bess, The Adventures of Gallant Bess is a heartwarming low-budgeter from Eagle-Lion. Cameron Mitchell tops the cast as itinerant rodeo rider Ted Daniels, whose best "friend" is his trained horse Gallant Bess. When Ted falls in love with pretty Peggy Gray (Audrey Long), he is forced to choose between the girl and the horse. This being a formula picture, he manages to end up with both. Fuzzy Knight provides gentle comedy relief, while Gallant Bess herself steals every scene she's in, as animal stars are wont to do. ~ Hal Erickson, Rovi

The Princess Stallion
Following the death of her mother, a young Californian teen is sent to the Scottish highlands to live with her father. It is a wild, lonely place and her one friend is a hermit who has devoted his life to protecting and healing wild and domestic animals. The girl's life changes when one day she spies a ghostly white stallion on a foggy day. She tells her father, but he thinks it a figment of her imagination and that she is spending too much time with the strange loner. The hermit, however, believes the stallion is real. When poachers show up to capture the elusive horse, the girl and the hermit team up to protect him. ~ Sandra Brennan, Rovi

Tommy and the Cool Mule
Forced to become the man of the house after his father goes away to war and never returns, a young boy named Tommy attempts to save the family farm with a little help from his new friend, a talking mule named Jackie A. If Tommy could only win enough money to stop the bank from foreclosing on the farm, his mother and sister could rest easy knowing that they have a place to call home. As the annual country stock show draws near and the big kids make Tommy's life miserable, he and Jackie A. hatch a plan to beat the odds, and take top prize. ~ Jason Buchanan, Rovi

Sylvester
Melissa Gilbert acquits herself well in this old-fashioned family drama about a gritty Texas orphan named Charlie (Gilbert), a substitute parent for her brothers, determined to succeed in life by converting an unmanageable rodeo horse into an equestrian champion. The transformation from equine dross to championship dressage is not an easy road, and helping Charlie is the often tipsy but tough Foster (Richard Farnsworth), as well as Matt, the man who captures her heart (Michael Schoeffling). After they succeed in training the actually talented horse, they head for the blue grass and bluer blood of Kentucky, where the equestrian and racing elite hold court over all, including newcomers from Texas. Now they have to coax the horse to make it through the formal dressage, cross-country, and jumping competitions -- and to do that in top form. ~ Eleanor Mannikka, Rovi
