“Star Trek: Discovery” - season 2 brings back the same great level of acting, effects, & stories introduced in season 1. A little disappointed that the creators/ writers have decided to remake some of the episodes from the “Star Trek” Universe but these re-writes aren’t bad at all, as they give additional ‘fleshing out’ of established crew & situations in the “Star Trek” canon. My only real complaint is that the series is currently run on an exclusive steaming service. Good thing they decided to put the series on Blu-Ray. Anxiously awaiting the BR release of season 3. Well worth the watching!
My wife and I are both lifetime Star Trek fans - we grew up on the original series with Kirk and the crew and have eagerly consumed every iteration since. We love Discovery, now, too, but it definitely diverges from the "classic" Star Trek adventure we were expecting. That is thanks in part to it being pay-to-watch and not regular broadcast TV, which allows CBS to go a little darker and grittier than the traditional Trek of my childhood. That isn't a bad thing - we both love seeing the darker side of Star Trek - but if you're looking for the light tones most of the other series' carried in many episodes, it will catch you off guard. Go in with an open mind - something Star Trek has always been a proponent of - and you're in for a treat.
All of Season Two's interconnected episodes add to and enhance Star Trek's mythology. Whereas TOS and SNG episodes were usually self-contained stories, Discovery Season Two comprises one big story arc. We learn how Michael Burnham - newly introduced into the Star Trek universe in Season One - fits within Star Trek's lore. Along the way, we are provided origin stories for Captain Christopher Pike, the USS Enterprise, Spock, and Talos IV from TOS,
I am too cheap to get CBS All Access, so I knew I would get to watch the series when it came out on Blu Ray. I purchased both Season at Best Buy when they came out and this is one of the greatest Treks Ever in my opinion! Second Season has a great Story line and we get to see Captain Pike and Spock when he was younger, before the adventures of the original Star Trek back in the 60's! A must have for any Trek Fan!
