The picture had black bars around the entire picture so it looked like a mini movie screen from youtube on this BluRay transfer. I think the reasoning is... It claims to be 1080p. They shrunk the picture to make it look better that it is, rather than darkening the image and paying money to clean up the mirky quality that it still has. This is the worst transfer by far, I have ever seen. The show itself, the episodes itself I would give it 5 stars, but this junk is not appreciated by me one bit. I am glad the back of the BluRay does not claim that it is from the original format, because it is not. It is a shrunken version of the original format. The reasoning isn't to make it widescreen, it's still Pan and scan just like the show was originally filmed in the 80's. But the difference is it is much smaller instead of cleaning the picture... Shrinking it does not help that much... It is still mirky, and poor quality... This should have been released on DVD only... Until Paramount CBS or whatever you call yourselves... Does a better transfer. Very highly disappointed.
This is a great episode about Spock. The episode is from TNG Star Trek series. So it has the next generation crew with Spock. This was originally a two part episode that is now all one episode movie. The quality of the picture and sound is great. The story is about the unification of Vulcan and Romulans. This is a must have for any Trek fans that like both The Next Generation and the Original series.
These Star Trek Blu-rays are great. While the upgrades are fantastic, it would be nice if the Star Trek Blu-rays had an extended version as well as the original release. I am sure the footage exists to make a slightly better product, and with sales not as good as they had hoped with the Blu-ray releases, why not try and make a better product? I surely do hope they get around to making more star trek Blu rays, but if they do, they should consider making an extended version to increase value, and perhaps more customer satisfaction.
Loved watching the "Children of Tama" that is one of my favorite all time episodes!
I would recommend this to a friend
Rated 5 out of 5 stars
Needed to finish my series Bluray collection.
As with all Star Trek this series is a good watch for the mediocre fan to the Big fan. I had grown up watching the reruns of TOS and had graduated high school the year TNG debuted. What a thrill and now has a special place because of that. It is great fun seeing Patrick Stewert become widely known because of this stint which of course brought him to be Professer X in the X-Men movies although I was fond of his acting since the movie "Dune". Worth the watch.
Season 5 of Star Trek: The Next Generation may not be the best in the series, but there were some really awesome episodes. We also got to see Wil Wheaton come back to reprise the role of Wesley Crusher in a much more mature fashion. We see the bond between him and Captain Picard grow and be tested. I can't wait for the next season to be released on Blu-Ray. The clarity is simply astounding!
Star Trek Next Generation is a great seasons 1-5 so far on blu-ray. The picture quality is superior. Season 5 is the season that Gene Roddenberry
Passed away. He hadn't been involved for the last year and died of a heart attack in his doctor's office. His influence and the love that was felt for him, he will be missed. There are great extras chronicling his life.
