    Synopsis

    Surf's Up
A surfing penguin currently riding the wave of success enters his first professional competition in this computer-animated family-oriented comedy from directors Chris Buck and Ash Brannon. Cody Maverick (Shia LaBeouf) may be a relative amateur when it comes to hanging ten, but he's sure he has what it takes to surf his way to superstardom. With a little help from his cantankerous King Penguin mentor, ex-surfing legend Big Z (Jeff Bridges), and a little encouragement from star Pen Gu Island lifeguard Lani (Zooey Deschanel), there may be hope for this tuxedo-clad wave twister after all. James Woods, Jane Krakowski, Michael McKean, Jon Heder, Mario Cantone, and Brian Benben all lend their voices to this inspirational tale that proves anything is possible when you put your heart and mind to it. ~ Jason Buchanan, Rovi

      Surprisingly Awesome

I went to go see this movie on a rainy day when I had nothing else to do. I wasn't expecting much, but man, this movie really surprised me. I'm 17, and I don't often laugh at jokes in an animated movie.... but this one was different. The dialog seemed much more realistic than other movies, and I felt more connected to what the characters were saying. The documentary style makes everything ten times better. It reminded me of The Office and it's deadpan humor. The animation in this movie is spectacular, and the environments are very colorful and memorable. I loved the soundtrack to this movie as well (Sugar Ray's "Into Yesterday" is very relaxing). In my opinion, everything in this movie just fell into place perfectly, and my only complaint is that it's too short. But that's okay. The other great thing about this movie is that it's not age specific. Anyone from kids to adults will enjoy it. And it is NOT another penguin movie. It's a surfing movie. The only time that it seems like a penguin movie is in the beginning in Cody's home town of Shiverpool. But then again, I thought that was one of the funniest parts of the movie. What I'm trying to say is, go out and buy the DVD, I'm almost certain you'll enjoy it. It's a nice, relaxing, feel-good movie to watch with your family.

Refreshingly Different From Other Penguin Movies

I got this as a gift for my girlfriend who LOVES penguins. Didn't think I was really going to enjoy this movie based on what some of my other friends had said- guess this just proves you gotta experience something for yourself sometimes! Surf's Up is a TOTALLY different approach on penguins than what Happy Feet or March Of The Penguins portrayed. Instead of the freezing arctic, you're treated to a sunny beach for most of the movie. The Documentary style of the film may not be for everybody as it does jump around a little bit at first, but overall I think it works very well. Took me a little while to realize the voice of main penguin Cody is actually the lead from Transformers, but once I did, it made me appreciate the casting all the more. LeBeouf gives Cody such a personality you can't help but love the little guy! Ultimately, I would recommend this movie to pretty much everybody. Its got a little bit of everything for everyone- and it'll make you wanna go surfing too!

When I heard about another penguin movie coming out I thought it was going to be just another re-hash of Happy Feet, a movie which I thought was over-rated by reviewers. I assure you this is an animated penguin movie in a league of it's own. On Blu-ray the picture and sound quality is amazing, watching all of the sequences on the beach with the waves is great and the details in the jungle are phenomenal. The whole film is shot like a documentary with a camera crew following and filming the main character. It is a new idea to CGI films and it works great here. The story itself flows good and is entertaining for the kids as well as the adults. Highly recommended for anyone who likes animated films.

I couldn't wait for Surf's Up to be released. I had seen it theatres and since I've gotten the DVD I've watched it another 4 times in one week. It's really humerous for a animated movie. This is a good one to watch with the kids but for adults who don't like to sit through those boring kids movies. The DVD is also packed with a lot of extra special features. I think they really put it together so well. The award winning short "The Chub Chubs" is my favorite piece on the special features. I remember a couple years back this short and it's so funny and great. You should check out the chub chub shorts on the special features if you get this DVD. Which you should get this DVD it's really cute and you'll get some good laughs.

Surf's Up! Surf's Up may look like yet another penguin movie, which it is, but it's jam packed with stars! Jeff "The Dude" Bridges & James Woods star along-side the talented and seemingly unavoidable Shia LaBeouf and endearing Zooey Deschanel. This film is fun to watch for both the young, old, and those in between. Its chock full of witty banter and a story that is reminiscent of the films we all grew up with. This film is definitely worth checking out!

My 2.5 yr old loved this movie. It looks spectacular when played on my 50 inch Samsung Plasma and Samsung BLu Ray player. If you have a Blu Ray player and have kids.. Why dont you have this movie then? Its worth it!!!
