A: It is battery operated. There is also a wire that connects the sensor to the light.
Q: Does this need to be wired or paired with an other type of devise for it to work
A: No, has 3 light colors that indicate you are close, and that have reached your stopping point.
A: I suppose it could be set up to let you know how close you are, If you get within 3 feet the green light would come on. The orange will illuminate when you come within 2 feet. The red light comes on at 1 foot.
