    Synopsis

    The Bay
Three years after a massive government cover-up involving a parasitic outbreak in a small seaside town, a reporter unearths chilling footage that reveals the terrifying truth in this found footage-style shocker from Oscar-winning director Barry Levinson. On July 4th, 2009, the town of Claridge, Maryland experienced an unprecedented biological disaster. An isopod parasite typically found in fish somehow found its way into a human host. As the town gathered for its annual Independence Day celebration, the parasite began to spread at unprecedented speeds, consuming its victims from the inside out. Now witness the terrifying events that unfolded that fateful holiday weekend as captured on the security cameras, mobile phones, and webcams of the people who witnessed them firsthand, but never lived to tell their stories. ~ Jason Buchanan, Rovi

A Brilliant Concept, Undermined By Many Factors

"The Bay" is about a group of steroid-strengthened parasites that attack a town in Maryland during a Fourth of July weekend. The good: The idea is brilliant; the cinematography is excellent, though not as well handled as films like "Cannibal Holocaust", "Paranormal Activity", "[Rec]", or "The Last Broadcast". The bad: The acting can be far from stellar at times; the ending leaves a little to be desired; the Special Features are minimal (just a short featurette, a feature-length commentary, and a couple of trailers). The ugly: The overall way the film was handled. If the filmmakers had been given more time and/or money, the end-result would've been very compelling. Furthermore, the director seems to enjoy standing on a soapbox an awful lot (.i.e.: Spike Lee, Al Gore, etc.). Overall, I like this movie. As long as your expectations are relatively low, you'll enjoy it!
