About this item

Lester Flatt and Earl Scruggs were members of Bill Monroe's pioneering bluegrass band before striking out with their own group in 1949, and they soon became one of the most popular and influential acts in acoustic country music, appearing regularly on the Grand Ol' Opry and recording the theme song for the television series The Beverly Hillbillies. From 1956 to 1962, Flatt & Scruggs hosted a syndicated television show of their own, and Best of the Flatt & Scruggs TV Show, Vol. 3 features two complete episodes taken from archival kinescopes from the collection of the Country Music Hall of Fame. An episode from late 1961 features several classic bluegrass gospel numbers in honor of the Christmas season, including "Lord I'm Coming Home" and "I'm On My Way To Canaan's Land", while on an installment from January 1962 the group welcomes guest artist Ricky Skaggs, then a mere seven years as he adds mandolin licks to "Ruby" and "Foggy Mountain Special".
