Interesting story... beautifully filmed!
||Posted .Ok when I watch films I do so on a 180" movie theater screen with full 7.1 surround sound and the Buttkicker transducer system. This is not to Boast but to give an idea of the clarity that I rate both 4k and 1080p films. 1st off regardless if you are huge into 4k or still collect Blu-ray; I will add that with today's (Oppo) upscaling technology along with upscaling technology on theater projectors that the difference between Blu-ray & 4k is minimal. I will say that going over 180" that you will likely see a difference and recommend 4k for 150"+ screens. So no spoilers for the film but I'll talk about quality. The scenes, colors & visuals were fantastic. The sound was just "ok" and that dissapointed a bit. Kind of bringing me out of the story.. still a good buy, or download!

Buy it!
||Posted .Owned for 1 year when reviewed. This movie was totally worth watching! Even my kids learned a lot from it with a bit of help from me. Great way to help introduce history of WWII while making it interesting and eye catching for the kids to watch.

Great price, beautiful movie and excellent quality
||Posted .Owned for 1 week when reviewed.Enjoyed my new DVD that I received via mail in ordering online via Best Buy. The film quality is excellent. I've always enjoied watching DVD's regularly but more especially now during the stay home order and with too much covid news 24/7. Watching films via DVD has helped relieve a lot of anxiety by turning off the tv and turning on a film. I recommend this film. A beautiful watch and heart felt story.

What I want to say in this title is not permitted.
||Posted .For whatever reason, I cannot say the name of the political party which was led by Adolf Hitler. That being said: The Book Thief is a warm tale told surrounded by near unbearable fear and incredible danger. The young Liesel, played by Sophie Nélisse, is impeccably played. Her painful introduction in this film - the loss of her little brother, her mother giving her away sets the stage for what might have been a complete tragedy. Geoffrey Rush is stellar as her new "Papa". Emily Watson brings a new definition to "bicked witch" but does a beautiful turn-around as her new "Mama". There is so much involved in this story, all I can say is buy this DVD, bring it home and go potty - 'cause you won't want to leave your seat until it's all over!

Beautiful family film
||Posted ."The Book Thief" is a touching, hopeful family film that can serve as a gateway to a conversations about the Holocaust and World War II. It also sends a positive message about the power of words/learning, family, love and sacrifice. The movie's greatest strength is its acting. Geoffrey Rush and Emily Watson provide sterling performances as the book thief's foster parents. But the movie truly belongs to young Sophie Nelisse, who is simply captivating as Liesel. Aside from the film itself, the blu ray includes a solid series of special features. I enjoyed learning about the process of adapting The Book Thief from a book to a movie. Another favorite extra is the featurette on John Williams, whose gorgeous score adds to the lyrical beauty of the film.
