Synopsis

The Bourne Identity
The best-selling suspense novel by late author Robert Ludlum comes to the screen for a second time, following a 1988 made-for-TV movie. Matt Damon stars as Jason Bourne, a barely alive amnesiac with a pair of bullet wounds in his back, pulled from the Mediterranean by Italian fishermen. Bourne's only clue to his own identity is a bank account number etched on a capsule implanted in his body. He quickly finds the Zurich bank where money, a gun, and a few identification documents await, but after he's pursued by security goons at the American consulate, Bourne realizes he can trust no one and offers a German gypsy named Marie (Franka Potente) ten thousand dollars for a ride to Paris. Encountering more professional killers bent on his destruction, Bourne discovers that he possesses a surprising degree of skill in combat, martial arts, and linguistics -- handy talents that clearly indicate his past includes work as a spy and assassin, but for whom? With Marie's reluctant help, Bourne edges closer to the truth, something CIA officials want concealed at all costs. The Bourne Identity co-stars Chris Cooper, Clive Owen, Brian Cox, and Julia Stiles. ~ Karl Williams, Rovi

    A must see

This is one movie of a three movie Trilogy. The plot of this movie is basically a man who has forgotten completely about his past and is now trying to piece together what that past was. However the strange thing to him is that he has abnormal abilities in fighting and quick thinking skills. Bourne however does not understand why he has these abilities. After a short time though Bourne's ex-agency starts to come after Bourne and he has to fight to stay alive, as well as discover why the agency is chasing after him, as he does not remember who he was and how he is involved with them. You see both sides of the story from the agency that is chasing him, as well as Bourne's side. This movie contains some of the best action fight sequences that are very fast paced. This action movie isn't your regular shoot em' up, and never hit the good guy action flick. Bourne gets beat up a lot in this movie and isn't invincible like other action flicks. Guns are actually not very widely used in the movie as there is a lot of hand to hand combat mixed with handguns. I highly recommend this to anyone interested in action movies. There are almost always a great car chase in each of the movies as well with non-traditional vehicles used in the chases such as old Mini-coopers, no sports cars here. Great Movie and if you like the movie check out the books as they offer a completely different story than the movies. Also a huge difference with the HD look of the movie. This version looks great compared to my SD version. Highly recommend this movie in HD to really see this movie how it should be seen. The sound is also greatly improved over the SD version.

Being a guy who loves action movies, the Bourne films have always been a favorite of mine (yeah, we're not going to count Legacy). So when I picked up my 4K HDR player, this was one of the first films I picked up. You can't beat the overall amazing quality of this film's story, action, and characters. To add all these elements with the vastly improved picture and audio quality of 4K, this is a MUST OWN for all movie enthusiasts. Now, I will admit: the greatest benefit I got from this 4K upgrade was the sound, but that is because HDR is really only most noticeable in picture quality when there are very bright colors on screen, i.e. Explosions, fire, etc... this was why Batman v Superman is a 4K movie that was worth every cent and vastly improved the movie watching experience in that regard. The Bourne series is a must own for every movie fan. Is the upgrade necessary? No, not necessarily, but I think if you're a big fan of the series and will really look for the improvements, then this will be a satisfying purchase for you.

That's why you by the Steelbook is because of the art. Then you get sucked into buying the rest of the franchise so it looks cool, but sometimes that could cost quite a bit. The Bourne series has started to gradually release them, so this is the second, when they release them, for some reason, these are much cheaper. Its not the glossy finish, its really kind of plain and sort of boring. Here's my take on it. They are slowly releasing them at a great price when there first release because the covers are boring. Something tells me that this particular steelbooks will tell a story when you line up these steelbooks of JB. when the story is easily seen, they will jack the price up, because EVERYONE will want the set. So get in on it now at $5.99, both were released at this price, i'm telling you, somethings up...

    Bourne Again

The Bourne Identity and its two sequels are excellent psychological thrillers for a film fan looking for more thought than splatter. Even though it's got plenty of that, too. You know the story by now. And yes, it is not the book 'on screen'. Name one novel that follows the book it is "based on" precisely. You can't. Anyway, this commentary is about the special features sections of the trilogy. They are superb for any movie buff who is into the how-do-they-do-that mindset. One of the strengths of the special features section is that the filmmaker allows you to participate in the sound, editing, and so on. Movies aren't just made yesterday and come out next week. The editing is the snafu and the challenge. If you own the set, give these features a try. Yes other films have better or more complete special features, but how many maps of Middle Earth can you follow in one sitting? Therefore, identify "The Bourne" trilogy's supreme special features as something to enjoy on a dvd. Then look it over a second time. Now that is the final ultimatum.

Action Film That Set The Tone For The Millennium.

Assassins, government conspiracies, surveillance, Amnesia. All of those elements made The Bourne Identity a classic action film for the post-Y2K crowd. Matt Damon stars as a man who can't seem to remember who he is or what he's supposed to do, yet he has certain instincts and skills that a normal citizen would never possess. Through chance, he meets a German woman played by Franka Potente (Run Lola Run) and together they go on a dangerous journey to uncover what dark secrets are in Bourne's immediate past. As a sidenote, this movie is double-sided- one side is Blu-Ray and the other is DVD. Which may or may not be a good thing depending on the person. I did like the concept but I normally prefer to have a separate DVD disc, so that I can give those to my relatives. But in my case, it's not a big deal. I just thought I would mention it in case people thought there were 2 separate discs.

The 4K image is not as sharp as reference quality discs like Lucy or John Wick but still a worthwhile upgrade from 1080 disc even for those that already own the latter. The details and textures on the 4K disc are noticeably smoother. Apples to oranges both the 1080 and 4K discs' audio are reference quality for their respective versions. The movie itself is one of my favorite action/spy movies of the last 20 years. Great combination of action and character development for what would become a franchise. 5* for the movie. 4* for the disc.

It was under USD10, and I had to buy when it went on sale. I have never seen this movie, but I have heard about it many times. I think it was a terrific buy, and Best Buy generated a lot of business when they do something like this. I realize DVDs and Blu-rays are low margin items – but it brings in a lot of customers (myself included) and I did buy something else along with this. I bought this from Best Buy in Sherman Oaks which is my favorite store.
