Originally broadcast on Britain's ITV network between 1987 and '88, the urbane and witty comedy series The Bretts chronicles the adventures of the titular clan, an English show business family whose presence in the theater and film extends back to the 1880s. Members include the matriarch, musical comedy star Lydia (Barbara Murray), the philandering film star patriarch, Charles (Norman Rodway), and five children - four of whom ply their trades as actors and one of whom authors radical and subversive plays. The program takes place in the 1920s, right at the dawn of talkies, and begins with the family's decision to purchase and manage a West End playhouse. This box set contains all 19 episodes from the program's entire two-season run.
