Description
An homage to American thrillers in general and to the very English Hollywood director Alfred Hitchcock in particular, The Bride Wore Black is even more entertaining on this MGM DVD release. The main selling point of the DVD edition is the widescreen transfer, which shows a few moments of digital image breakup and seems slightly off in terms of color balance but still lets Raoul Coutard's camerawork shine. The Digital Dolby 2.0 Mono audio transfer is slightly more problematic; it sounds fine coming out of the TV's speaker but Bernard Herrmann's typically inventive score overpowers the dialogue on occasion when played through a stereo system. While not a perfect DVD transfer, this edition of the The Bride Wore Black is still superior to previous video editions.
