An imaginative boy (Tom Taylor) is transported to a fantasy realm, where he gets caught up in an epic battle between a noble gunslinger named Roland Deschain (Idris Elba) and a villainous figure known as the Man in Black (Matthew McConaughey). Later, Roland's quest to defend a magical tower from the Man in Black leads him to follow the boy back to Earth. Directed by Nikolaj Arcel (A Royal Affair), The Dark Tower was adapted from Stephen King's hugely popular series of fantasy novels.~Jack Rodgers

A Very Good Movie adapted from a Stephen king nove
Owned for 1.5 years when reviewed.
A awesome Sci-Fi movie that has been adapted from Stephen king novel "The Dark Tower Series." It's really the first time I really seen Matthew McConaughey play such a cool evil character, who did did not care about the life's he was taking as long as he was getting what he want. Idris Elba plays the good guy, he made you did a great job but maybe better, but that's just really me. It's a Blue Ray you have to have in your Blue Ray Collection.
This film is the culmination of many scrapped scripts, poorly drafted adaptations, and ultimately, one more terrible book-to-film adaption... As a film, it fails to capture the depth and breadth of the characters, the unique motivations, the amazing qualities of the world in which the story takes place. In short, it's a normal Hollywood rendition of multiple thousands of pages of writing, squashed down into a couple of hours, and it sucks. Pardon the rant, but find me somehow who has read these and disagrees to any significant degree. It's not the worst film, but it lacks a lot, which is why the new version is a reboot TV series, that will basically scrap this, regardless of how well Elba performed.
As a librarian, I value the originality as well as how true it is to source material. They get points for somehow keeping this PG-13 (which it really shouldn't have been, but a more broad audience is a nice thought), AND for making a cool visual impact. As before, the validity when compared to source material is absolute rubbish, but this one gets more of the Star Wars VIII - The Last Jedi treatment, where either you can or you cannot look past the plot holes, and see it for its own merits, however few they may seem.
As a product, this steelbook packaging is beautiful, with the "Pop Art" style, which is welcome, but not as fitting as the original book covers. The fit and finish are great, with no real issues either outside or inside the case. The 4K/UHD presentation with HDR is astounding, and the Dolby Atmos soundtrack was equally invigorating. And FYI, the HDR is done in Dolby Vision, in case your player, receiver, and/or TV need to be checked for compatibility.
Altogether, I have chosen to grant this a full five stars; Beautiful packaging, stellar production value for the blu-ray and 4K disc. The film may be on the flimsy side, but not many action film-makers have the guts to cram this much content into a story, and even fewer come up faring any better.

Definitely one of the best family movies to watch during the weekend or down time. Really good movie

MEDIORE AT BEST
I enjoyed cetain aspects of the movie, the roles that Elba and McConaughey played were difficult as tehe plot was all over the board. Both actors were able to keep my attention from going astray at times. Unfortunately the script caused this movie to be rated as just a mediocre film. I was a little disappointed as I was hoping that movie would be as captivating as the series of books by Stephen King .
