*** If you are a martial arts movie fanatic, like me, it's not so bad to be in your collection.***
If you are not a martial arts movie fanatic, it's in your best interest to watch this movie as a rental.
There are many reasons why a non-movie fanatic will not like this film opposed to one that is.
This film can get confusing because of the traditions of martial arts masters after the Qing (Ching) Dynasty, and how gangs got started (for example: Chinese Triads and their history tracing back to these times). Non movie fanatics will not understand this and fans will.
Next the character development in this picture is a little obscure for American audiences. Most non-martial arts movie fanatics will think this is strange because we are used to watching an antagonist/protagonist sort of plot.
**(Mind you, this is a peculiar writing style because majority of the characters [even the main character] are antagonists. Though the main character becomes more protagonist as the plot develops more). ***
Nonetheless, martial arts fanatic will find this rather intriguing due to the martial arts sequences that will arise from this.
With that said, the martial arts choreography is beyond brilliant but the characters in this film are hard to understand if one does not know what it all means; therefore, 3-stars out of 5 from me.
