    The Hollow Crown
The Hollow Crown: The War of the Roses collects three television films based on Shakespearean histories in a multi-disc set. Executive produced for the BBC by Sam Mendes and starring Benedict Cumberbatch, the series dedicates one movie to Henry VI, Part I, combines Henry VI, Part II and III into another film and concludes the saga of the War of the Roses with Richard III. Cumberbatch plays the infamous Richard III in a series that also features appearances from Judi Dench, Michael Gambon, Tom Sturridge, and Sophie Okonedo. ~ Jennifer Lackman, Rovi

Ok when I watch films I do so on a 180" movie theater screen with full 7.1 surround sound and the Buttkicker transducer system. This is not to Bragg but to give an idea of the clarity that I rate both 4k and 1080p films. 1st off regardless if you are huge into 4k or still collect Blu-ray; I will add that with today's (Oppo) upscaling technology along with upscaling technology on theater projectors that the difference between Blu-ray & 4k is minimal. I will say that going over 180" that you will likely see a difference and recommend 4k for 150"+ screens. I found the film to be Strict along the language of Shakespeare. If you remember reading Shakespeare in school and going over the dial and text and either found it frustrating or boring than this film is NOT for you! The cast is amazing and the wording, props, and sets were of that period! I highly recommend this to any hardcore Shakespearean nut!

This set of disks contains the three Shakespeare's plays that deal with the War of the Roses. Given that Bill is known to have taken a few liberties, these plays still give one insight into the War of the Roses. Frankly, I was familiar with Richard III, having seen it live several times and owning two versions on DVD, but not the other plays in the set. Well, I essentially spent the day binge-watching this set of disks. Fantastic! The real Game of Thrones.

This is a wonderful dramatization of the three plays that tell the story of the War of the Roses. A brilliant cast makes Shakespeare's language sound like everyday speech, and the sets and costumes are treats for the eye. I had never heard of this before.... the title caught my eye as I was browsing for something new to add to my video collection, and I like the period in history, so I took a chance..... and I'm glad I did!

This is literally a William Shakespeare type play/movie. It is not like an inspired film but more or less THOU SHALT and YE Blah blah blah type movie. We thought this might be more like White Queen, White princess, or something along those lines and it was not. If you like Shakespeare type movie/plays then you will enjoy this otherwise you'll probably hate it.

The cast, acting, cinematography, and direction make this an approachable version of the plays. Faithful interpretation, the condensation of Henry VI from three to two parts notwithstanding.

This is an extremely well acted version of Shakespeare's Henry VI Parts 1 & 2, and Richard III. Fine acting, pretty good pacing, exciting. Highly recommended.
