    Synopsis

    The Hurt Locker
Based on the personal wartime experiences of journalist Mark Boal (who adapted his experiences with a bomb squad into a fact-based, yet fictional story), director Kathryn Bigelow's Iraq War-set action thriller The Hurt Locker presents the conflict in the Middle East from the perspective of those who witnessed the fighting firsthand -- the soldiers. As an elite Army Explosive Ordnance Disposal team tactfully navigates the streets of present-day Iraq, they face the constant threat of death from incoming bombs and sharp-shooting snipers. In Baghdad, roadside bombs are a common danger. The Army is working to make the city a safer place for Americans and Iraqis, so when it comes to dismantling IEDs (improvised explosive devices) the Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) crew is always on their game. But protecting the public isn't easy when there's no room for error, and every second spent dismantling a bomb is another second spent flirting with death. Now, as three fearless bomb technicians take on the most dangerous job in Baghdad, it's only a matter of time before one of them gets sent to "the hurt locker." Jeremy Renner, Guy Pearce, and Ralph Fiennes star. ~ Jason Buchanan, Rovi

This not your standard by the numbers war film, Hurt Locker is a very disturbing look into the Iraqi war involving engineers from a demolitions group that face death on a day to day basis. These Unsung hero's of a senseless war expose themselves to IED's in war torn cities of Iraq. Jeremy Renner is just such one of the newly arrived demolitions engineers to his unit in Iraq and immediately alarms his fellow soldiers with his haphazard style of disarming hidden caches of explosives designed to kill American soldiers. It is obvious that Sergeant First Class William James (Renner) has emotional as well as mental issues causing him to act out in irrational ways in dealing with his fear of death almost like he is tempting fate, purposely exposing himself to danger just to spite the enemy while also getting a rise out of his unit. This film was nominated for 9 academy awards, taking 6 of those 9 for good reason. To my recollection this really is the first serious film dealing with the Iraq war in a fashion that shows all that this fable called glory in conjunction with war is nothing more than fallacy. I recommend this film for all the very young due to gore, language & depictions of violence. Video - Excellent 10/10 absolutely demo material. Blacks solid, colors accurate. No filtering. Audio - Excellent 10/10 panning, discrete sounds, no surging, crystal clear dialog. Bass is deep this is what HD Sound should sound like! Supplements - Are a bit light but adequate for me. Audio Commentary with Director Kathryn Bigelow and writer Mark Boal The Hurt Locker: Behind the Scenes (HD, 12:30) Image Gallery (HD, 23:30) If you haven't seen a great war film since Blackhawk Down then buy this Bluray you will not be disappointed!

Despite what you might have read from other reviews, this movie in my own opinion is great. My guess is that the people that got this movie expected it to be a bunch of shooting and gore which it isn't. This movie has suspense, i fyou want a suspense movie i highly reccomend this, It's not exactly a horror movie, but by all means has the suspense of one. And this DID deserve best film of the year. I mean really, Avatar was cool, but it was to long and wasn't as great as people said it was seeing it 5 times. (I saw it in iMax 3D so i didn't have to see it again) But this movie although it doesn't have the constant shooting of other war movies it has crazy suspense of a bomb defuser (which is the plot, his jobs of defusing bombs) Overall this movie will keep you hooked, although it does have a kind of slow start. Hope this helps anybody

I walked into Best Buy today to buy "The Other Guys" and saw this movie and I'm a sucker for war movies. I had no clue what to expect when I bought it, but I've heard that it's a great movie. I just got finished watching it on blu-ray and I thought the movie was amazing. It had suspense, some action, and kept me on the edge of my seat for most of the movie. It had great actors and a great setting. My only complaint was that it wasn't the clearest movie I've ever seen. The slow motion scenes were very clear, but not the rest of the movie. They could have put a grainy effect on the camera though (as this is common in some war movies). I would recommend this movie to anyone. Loved it, go buy it!

If you're looking for nonstop action then DO NOT buy this movie. The Hurt Locker is a dramatic story about soldiers who detonate and disarm bombs over in Iraq. There are some explosions but not many. But this movie will make you hang on the edge of your seat throughout wondering if and when bombs are going to detonate. The opening scene sets the tone and is exciting and emotional. I myself have not been to war for our country, but I have many friends who have and they assured me that this movie is pretty dead on. If you want to get in the heads of these men then see this movie.

The story follows the select few who are brave enough and responsible for disarming bombs in the Middle East. The story is incredibly gripping and keeps you on your seat the entire time. Jeremy Renner is a compelling wild man who does not get along with his fellow teammate Anthony Mackie. But they both understand it is important to get the job done. It keeps you wanting more. Like a drug. Which are the first words to appear on screen: "War is a drug." No wonder it beat out Avatar for Best Movie.

Never knew what a "hurt locker" was until this movie. Jeremy Renner did a good job playing his part. He was realistic and even showed an arrogance about him. But yet he was confident about himself and loved what he did. The location where it was filmed had to be in the Middle East somewhere which to me, contributed to the movie greatly rather than a set. It kept you on your toes because you never knew if those hidden bombs would explode or not. You felt like you were there!!!!

this movie is mediocre at best, if i even give it that. with all the talk about this movie, i went out and bought it. i now wish i would have rented it and saved the $20. there is like no action, pretty slow movie. whoever said this is one of the best war movies ever is on crack, does not even compare to most. the bad thing is it will get more hype now that it won those UNDESERVED accademy awards, in my mind it shouldnt have won anything, ESPECIALLY movie of the year.

from the opening scene, i was absolutely hooked...it was very intense and several scenes were nail-biters...it is a very different spin on a war movie...it isn't the usual combat-oriented war movie...it shows you what i can only imagine to be an extremely accurate portrayal of the pressure packed process of disarming hidden bombs...the car bomb scene had me sweating almost as much as the characters in the film...check it out for yourself, you won't be disappointed...
