The Island at the Top of the World [30th Anniversary Edition] [DVD] [1974]

This epic-scale adventure from Walt Disney Pictures has been given a full-dress release on DVD. The Island at the Top of the World has been given a letterboxed transfer to disc in the widescreen aspect ratio of 1.85:1, which has also been enhanced for playback on 16 x 9 monitors. The audio is presented in its original single-channel mix in Dolby Digital Mono; viewers may choose between the original English-language soundtrack or a dubbed version in French, with subtitles in English, French, and Spanish also included. Bonus materials include a promotion short subject on the making of the film, a pre-production "teaser" trailer, raw footage from the special-effects shoots, trailers, television spots for the picture, and a gallery of production stills.

The Island at the Top of the World
This Disney family adventure, directed by Robert Stevenson in his Jules Verne mode, concern a group of explorers who travel to the Arctic Circle in 1908 to explore the uncharted wastes of the North Pole. Sir Anthony Ross (Donald Sinden), a rich Londoner, organizes an Arctic exploration team in hopes of locating his missing son. Providing expert advice is Prof. John Ivarson (David Hartman), a professor of Nordic history.
