Synopsis

Little Heroes
In this inspiring family drama, a little girl has only her beloved dog Fuzzy to protect her from the slings and arrows tossed at her and her impoverished family by their self-righteous small-town neighbors. Her father is a farmer who can barely scrape by in trying economic times and they are unable to provide young Charley the finer things her friends receive. She does not dress as well as her peers and is teased for it. Still the girl's spirit is strong and her heart is good. When she saves the life of an old farmer she teaches the town a valuable lesson about courage and real moral values. ~ Sandra Brennan, Rovi

Muumi ja vaarallinen juhannus
An avant-garde animated feature so unusual and defiantly eccentric that it almost resists genre classification, Finnish director Maria Lindberg's Moomins and Midsummer Madness transpires in the fanciful Moomin Valley. The Moomin is initially a tranquil and happy place but falls prey to sudden devastation from two associated natural disasters - a volcanic eruption and a tidal wave that gushes across the land. When a family of local residents, The Moomins, witnesses the waters rising, they initially believe themselves done for, but all is not lost: hope arrives in the form of an oddball structure that floats to the rescue, housing a theatrical stage and a producer named Emma. The family members then invite Emma to produce a play that the family patriarch, Moominpappa, plans to author. ~ Nathan Southern, Rovi

Treasure State
Two teenage rivals team-up to find a millionaire's missing cargo in the mountains of Montana, but run into a pair of outlaw siblings who are determined to reach the prize first. Levi Hogue and Trey Stanton are two boys whose lives have always been defined by their fathers' long-running family feud. But when a cargo plane crashes deep in the mountains and the owner offers a large reward for the recovery of its contents, the two adversaries reluctantly surmise that their best chance for finding it is to join forces. Meanwhile, the ruthless Baxter brothers escape from prison, and discover a clue that could lead them right to the crashed plane. Now, even if Levi and Trey manage to reach the cargo first, chances are they won't live long enough to collect the reward. They'll have to fight to claim their prize, and with his family's ranch facing foreclosure, Levi will do whatever it takes to succeed. ~ Jason Buchanan, Rovi

Africa Express
The Great Elephant Escape
Filmed on location in Kenya, this made-for-TV movie tells the story of a boy's fight to save an elephant. Stephanie Zimbalist stars as Beverly Cunningham, a mother who takes her son to live with her in Africa. When her son and a pal befriend an abandoned elephant, a Safari chase ensues as they try to save the animal from the hands of an uncaring businessman. ~ Bernadette McCallion, Rovi

Wind Dancer
Paralyzed after a riding accident, young Paige finds renewed hope after she attends a clinic where animals are used to help with the emotional recovery of patients such as herself. This inspirational and heartwarming drama centers on the initially embittered, depressed Paige's relationship with the extraordinary horse that restores her will to live. ~ Sandra Brennan, Rovi

The Jungle Book
The Jungle Book isn't always faithful to the Rudyard Kipling original (in fact, it seldom is), but 1942 audiences swept up in the grandeur of the production values and the lush Technicolor photography didn't mind at all. Indian juvenile-star Sabu plays Mowgli, who having been lost in the jungle as an infant has been raised by wolves. While he has no trouble conversing with his animal neighbors (whose voices aren't as ludicrous as you might think, though we never imagined that a snake could sound like Lionel Barrymore), Mowgli yearns to touch base with his human roots; thus, he returns to the native village whence he came. With the help of his jungle companions, Mowgli rescues his adoptive family, his natural mother (Rosemary DeCamp) and the rest of the humans from the greedy machinations of villains Joseph Calleia, John Qualen and Frank Puglia. Adapted for the screen by Lawrence Stallings and co-directed by Zoltan Korda and Andre De Toth, The Jungle Book scored a significant hit for its distributor United Artists, who really needed a smash at this point in time. The film would be remade (so to speak) as a Disney animated feature in 1967, and again as a live-actioner (with "politically correct" British villains) in 1994. ~ Hal Erickson, Rovi

Ghost Ship
The Goonies have got nothing on these adventure seeking kids! When a group of teens stumble across a mysterious treasure map, the search is on to find a lost pirate ship that's filled with treasure. Though they soon discover a secret desert tunnel that will lead directly to the ship, the teens hadn't counted on a pair of Chinese strangers determined to claim the bounty at any cost. Making the acquaintance of an old hermit who claims to have been a member of the crew, the kids must overcome a series of deadly obstacles and fierce adversaries if they are to claim the elusive lost treasure and escape with their lives. ~ Jason Buchanan, Rovi
