    Synopsis

    The Last Play at Shea
In 1964, when the New York Mets were regarded as little more than a punch line in major league baseball, the team moved into a brand new ballpark, Shea Stadium, which was to become their home for the next forty-four years. Over the course of its history, Shea Stadium became an iconic part of Long Island life, and along with hosting baseball, football and soccer, it was used as a venue for massive open air concerts, with The Beatles playing a legendary show at Shea in the summer of 1965 to an audience of over 55,000 fans. In the fall of 2008, Shea Stadium was closed (in part to create more parking space for a new stadium, Citi Field), and on July 16 and 18, 2008, Billy Joel headlined the final concerts held at the stadium. Filmmaker Paul Crowder and a camera crew were on hand for Joel's shows, and the documentary The Last Play At Shea chronicles his historic two-night stand, as well as exploring Joel's career, his ties to working-class New York, and how his life and career paralleled the growth of suburban Long Island and the beloved ballpark. Featuring appearances by Tony Bennett, Paul McCartney, Roger Daltrey, Steven Tyler and Garth Brooks and narration by Alec Baldwin, The Last Play At Shea received its world premiere at the 2010 Tribeca Film Festival. ~ Mark Deming, Rovi

I had watched this documentary on TV and thought it was amazing and awesome. My entire family are Billy Joel fans and I knew my Mom would love it, so I decided to order her a copy and send it to her house as a surprise. She got it and was thrilled and couldn't wait to watch it until I got a return call from her that night saying that the DVD didn't work in any of our players at home. When she brought it into Best Buy the next day, they told her that it was formatted for a Chinese DVD player, and not an American one. Additionally, they told her that Best Buy doesn't carry The Last Play at Shea for American DVD players at all. I just think it's ridiculous that Best Buy is advertising the sale of a product that won't even work in the country that it's being sold in; nor does it say anywhere on the website that it is only for Chinese DVD players. Please beware when buying this product that unless you have a DVD player formatted to run Chinese discs, this DVD will not work for you.

If your like me and owned the 8 track of "Piano Man" or had ever heard of "Kiners Corner" this is for you. Even the toughest New Yorker or North Jersey Guido will shed a few tears as you watch huge parts of your life re-lived before your eyes....Exceptional quality and sound...I didn't want it to end.....but who ever does.......LIke Billy so appropriately put it so many years ago. "Every year is a souvenir, that slowly fades away."

I thought it was just going to be footage of Billy Joel's concert at Shea Stadium. Instead it was a documentary on Shea with clips of the concert.

The DVD is coded for Europe. Didn't know about regional coding until it was explained to me by a member of the Geek Squad.
