this was my favorite movie growing up as a kid I had it on DVD but the DVD cut out some of the words and audio so when I saw it was being re- released on Blue ray I bought it the story is about amalthea a unicorn looking for others like her on her way she is taking by a woman named Mommy Fortuna a witch with a travelling carnival she is later released by schmendrick who is a wizard they travel together then meet molly grue who disides to travel with schmendrick and amalthea they are found by the red bull and Schmendrick uses his magic to change amalthea into a different form so the red bull wont hurt her he changed her into a human woman they travel to king Haggard's castle he is rumored to have made the red bull to take all the unicorns in the world for himself amalthea meets prince Lir king Haggard's son and falls in love with him amalthea has to make a chose stay as a human and be with prince Lir or become a unicorn again looks amazing on Blue Ray you wouldn't believe this movie was made in 1982 with the Blue Ray

The movie is good, although some of the songs and singing are horrible. Some of the animation is very Saturday morning cartoonish, but I still like this movie. I think it's a great story and the unicorn animation is beautiful. I can't not love a movie that Christopher Lee has a voice in so that helps my rating. Overall, I like the movie. I would love to see this movie redone with today's animation and technology, it could be amazing.

Another movie that has been rated G, but it's not really apropriate for toddlers or small children. Some scenes are difficult to understand and others are really scary (i.e. the red bull). But it is a wonderful fantasy, excellent voices for the roles, and most of all, a terrific music. Songs of 'America' and Jimmy Webb's music only, are enough to buy this dvd.

I was very excited to see this movie out on DVD. I used to watch it often as a child and my old VHS version was wearing thin. The sound and video quality are better than the VHS, as it should be, and it was worth updating my older tape with this one. Watch it yourself before showing your child however, there are PG situations despite the G rating.

My daughter just turned 4 and she loved "The Last Unicorn". I will say it would be better that if a child is watching under the age of 6 a adult watches with them for the first time to explain the mean and wicked king. She is just now starting to watch a movie with a little more to it. I enjoyed watching it also.

The storyline may be a little too dark for children. I love the journey of discovery that the unicorn takes as she travels in search of more of her kind. The witch may be a bit frightening for small children but the older ones may learn a valuable lesson from the film.

I must say that this movie has just got to be my all-time favorite children's movie. I watched it when I was a child and it still moves me. Although it is a cartoon, it really does have themes that I believe both children and adults will find entertaining.
