    Synopsis

One minute, you're Emmett, just an unassuming guy trying to get through his day-to-day life as a person with his head down and his feet on the ground. The next, you're being hailed as the savior of a world under the total rule of an evil dictator, and everyone is looking to you to save the day. Using all the resources and know-how at your disposal, it's up to you to overthrow the cruel ruler and save all of LEGO-kind.

Choose your character from more than 90 unique LEGO people as you traverse through the dense LEGO universe with a fellowship of strangers, all while collecting one-of-a-kind items to build the world of your dreams. My family and I played the demo and instantly decided to purchase the full game. Lego series action games are fun and challenging, and can be enjoyed by children of all ages, including my 33-year-old self. My daughters, ages 6 and 4, can't get enough of the game. It follows the movie pretty well and adds a few elements that are not in the movie, but are welcome additions. Some levels are a little tough for my girls, and even for me, but we manage to find a way to pass them. Saving your progress could be easier, though. If I'm not mistaken, completing a level automatically saves your progress and after reaching a checkpoint, you need to manually save at a kiosk. The last two times that I loaded the game after a kiosk/checkpoint save, I was brought back to the beginning of the level. Not a huge deal, but I wouldn't want this to happen every time. Another drawback is after completing a level, you're brought back to a free play hub and need to find your way to the next level, which makes it a mini-level in itself. This is not so bad, but when young kids don't understand this concept, it can lead to repeating earlier levels in the form of inadvertently selecting free play. All in all, it's a fun game and it has piqued our interest in other Lego action games.

      Least Favorite Lego Game

I watched The Lego Movie when it came out in theaters and loved it and I've enjoyed lego games in the past so I bought this game when it was on sale. I played for about 30 minutes and I haven't touched it since. There's nothing really new from the movie. All of the cutscenes are straight from the film and they do not look great; it came across as grainy on my TV. The camera angle is frustrating too. I played co-op with a friend and there was one point in the game where he got slightly ahead of me and the camera stuck with his character so I could not navigate my character through a jump. Even when I dropped out, my character couldn't advance so we were stuck on that portion of the level until we quit the game and lost all of our progress in the process. Not fun! I think younger audiences would like this game but to an older person who likes Lego Games, it doesn't stack up well against the Marvel Avengers, Batman (especially Lego Batman 3), or Star Wars iterations.

Let's be honest, most of the time movie tie in video games SUCK. THANKFULLY lego and wb nailed this game. Lego already has put out great games and this one follows a similar format: you play as lego characters exploring the worlds of the movie. They did a great job of fleshing out the game so that it accentuates the plot points of the movie without making the game too dull, drawn out or overly predictable. For example you take part in an extended chase through the city after you first meet wildstyle. You play through the story but can also go back and replay using different characters you unlock along the way. Many times there will be bonus areas you can only access using an unlocked character so you get rewarded for going back and revisiting past levels. There's also SO MUCH fun little details and funny quips by characters you find in the various worlds. It's really great to explore the worlds that were shown in the film. The gameplay is pretty simple and luckily dying is not too big a deal (you lose some coins but don't have to start a whole level over if you fall off a lego cliff) so anybody can learn the game pretty quick. Eventually the levels get a bit more challenging but nothing impossible.

The game follows the movie fairly closely, and you are rewarded with hidden cut-scenes if you complete some of the more difficult challenges. There are enough hidden items and Easter Eggs embedded in the game to give it a replay value. They did a nice job of differentiating the various characters' abilities that you will want to play it again once you have unlocked more characters. Better yet, like the movie, the game has multiple levels of sophistication and dialogue that will be fun for everyone.

My wife and I were trying to find a game for our yougnlings that was fun, challenging, and a cut away from the normal shoot em' up games. When we found this one we immediately jumped at it. The kids and us loved the movie, and hoped that the game would deliver the same enthusiasm that the movie provided. It did with flying colors! The kids could not put the controllers down for a second! It's been so much fun just watching them play one of their favorite movies! Successful Christmas gift...Check!

Both my kids love playing this game. I love it because of the fact that it teaches them how to work as a team (two player split screen). Each character has different abilities that are needed at different times throughout the game, sometimes they have to work together at the same time to be able to progress. For me this is big because I have two boys one year apart and sharing and team work really isn't in their vocabulary, so this is one of many good ways to stimulate those skills!

So I just picked up this game to play with my 4 year old who started running around and flapping with excitement when he saw it. Good graphics, easy to play. We play exclusively in co op mode and have a blast playing together. This is just a good positive game that makes us both happy. It's nice to escape to a game like this after a long day at work or on a rainy day. This won't be the last Lego game we buy that's for sure. And remember, everything is awesome!

I especially recommend this to anyone who liked the Lego Movie itself. If it does not have the original voice actors, the ones who do the in game sound pretty spot on. The story follows the movie closely, but the things that are added are fun and make sense. I give it a 4 because I don't feel it is quite as deep as some of the other recent Lego games (Lego Marvel Superheros, Lego Batman 3). But, since it is targeted at a younger demographic, this might be just the thing for younger gamers.
