I’m willing to debate with anyone that this album is the closest thing to getting an Illmatic 2 that we’ve gotten from Nas to date. No disrespect to Stillmatic (based on the name, it was suppose to be a sequel), because I loved the album, but “The Lost Tapes” embodies everything that made us fall in love with Nas from the get go. The soul stirring poetecism and street narratives depicted to perfection over raw hip hop bass lines and crisp snares is just too hypnotic to deny the listening ear. With Stillmatic highlighting the Jay vs. Nas beef, this album didn’t get the promotion being that it fell in between that moment in hiphop and “God’s Son”, which was highlighted by the untimely passing of Nas’s mother amongst other things. But trust when I tell you, this album stands up to anything that’s been catergorized as “real hip hip” in the last two decades. BIG. OLE. FACTS. Long Live The Goat.

NAS did some of his best work on this album. Talked about a variety of different topics, his lyrical word play is just above everyone else. The production is very good with Alchemist, L.E.S. just to name a few, the classic New York 90's Real Hip- Hop era sound. Nas is my favorite Emcee the last of a dying breed from the Golden Era , so if your a true Hip- Hop fan add this album to your collection & let God Son drop knowledge on you.

An album full of unheard, exclusives from Nas was by far the best albums ever made.

All the material on this disc is worthy of being on the best of any of Nas's full length albums.
