    The Polar Express
Directed by Robert Zemeckis and based on children's author Chris Van Allsburg's modern holiday classic of the same name, The Polar Express revolves around Billy (Hayden McFarland), who longs to believe in Santa Claus but finds it quite difficult to do so, what with his family's dogged insistence that all of it, from the North Pole, to the elves, to the man himself, is all just a myth. This all changes, however, on Christmas Eve, when a mysterious train visits Billy in the middle of the night, promising to take him and a group of other lucky children to the North Pole for a visit with Santa. The train's conductor (Tom Hanks) along with the other passengers help turn Billy's crisis in faith into a journey of self-discovery. A long-time fan of Van Allsburg's book, Hanks also helped produce the film. ~ Tracie Cooper, Rovi

      Skip on the "3-D"

My fiance and I both loved this movie when it was released and we still do. When we heard it was coming out on Blu Ray and on top of that 3-D we were beyond excited. Well that excitment was crushed when we got home, put it on and were almost given instant headaches from the old school red and blue 3-d glasses and the fact that no matter how hard we tried to see it, it just was nowhere near 3-d quality. We sat there contemplating whether or not it was just us or if the 3-d aspect of it sucked that bad and we came to the conclusion that it was definately the latter. So after a half hour of trying hard to like it we switched it to 2-d (thank god for blu ray for having that option) and saw how in 1080p it was almost 3-d itself. Needless to say the very next day I went back to the store I purchased it from and changed it for the regular blu ray version (which was $5 cheaper than the 3-d version and totally worth the purchase, 5 stars for that version.) It was very sad that it did not work out because such an amazing holiday movie with such great animation would be a no brainer to have as 3-d but unfortunately it just is not worth the headache and strain. So save your $5 and go ahead and get the regular Blu Ray version of the movie. Truuuuuuuuuuust me and thank me later, or don't trust me and let me know so I could say I told you so.

Can't believe it took me 14 years to finally watch this movie. This is an excellent family film, my kids definitely loved it. Movie itself was enjoyable with a great message. The 3D was outstanding with really excellent depth, and few objects flying to the screen. The colors on my OLED tv looked bright and vivid, a 14 year old movie and the 3D effects looks way better than any of the new films shame. This movie comes with one disc with both version of the movie 2D and 3D, and it has few bonus materials. If your a movie collector and still fan of 3D like myself you need this in your collection. Note: This film was viewed on a 2016 LG OLED (OLED65E6P) and Oppo BDP 203.

Could be better the movie is 5 stars, the 3D is 1

My kids love the Polar Express and they only had it in DVD format so I went to pick it up in Blu Ray and saw the 3D version so decided on it. Excited to let my kids watch this in 3D we popped our usual popcorn and got ready to enjoy the show, but after about 5 minutes of trying to watch the 3D version my kids were asking to watch it in 2D. I have a 58 inch Panasonic Plasma that is 1080p and I attempted to adjust the color settings, but got no where. I even made sure that to room was as dark as possible. After we watched it in 2D I kept playing with the settings and could not get it looking good. Some scenes are excellent, but the majority of the 3D scenes are unbearable. The great thing is that the movie is excellent in 2D, but do not buy this if you are looking for a 3D experience. I did not expect the effect to be as great at the ones in IMAX, but at least bearable and this was not the case.

Fantastic 3-D Effects. Great in Surround sound!!

When we made the switch over to 3-D in our upstairs clubhouse, the one movie my son kept asking for was always The Polar Express. As soon as we had the Sound bar hooked up it was the first movie we watched after finding it on sale at Best Buy. It was incredible!! The kids didn't look kinda off like they do sometimes in the 2d versions. The elaborate music and sound effects were always delivered with incredible depth as well, but the real star is always the train. It really just blows you away in 3D. Many times it pops right out of the screen at your face or takes you on incredible twists and turns all with amazing realness. I would have to say its in our top 5 3D blu rays so far. Definitely worth investing in a Sound bar for this one!!

Just a plain good movie to enjoy with the family

No better way to describe it than to say: "Just a plain good movie to enjoy with the family". We saw this in the movie theatre, and hearing the music in the workshop in surround sound was great in the theatre, so having it in a home theatre setting with surround sound is a must. So, turn-off all the lights except for a Christmas tree, and enjoy this movie. It has a lot of scenes and many different action sequences, musical numbers, and heartfelt good stuff. If you have a youngster that's right at that "I'm not so sure about Santa stage", then this is a great movie to keep the spirit alive for a year, or to talk about the transition and the 'spirit' of Christmas. Enjoy.

      A fun, imaginative film

I was actually quite impressed with the imagination and skill that went into this movie. It is a fun story about a child who is whisked away to the North Pole to meet Santa in person and the adventures he manages to have while on the train. What really makes this worth watching is how it is able to keep the movie interesting and fun without being over bearing. The only complaint I have about this movie is the sub plots. They are kind of trite and lack any type of originality. I don't want to detail them for fear of spoilers, but once you see them unfold you can instantly guess how they will a) progress and b) finish. However, this nit pick does not detract from the movie and it should be enjoyable by everybody whose heart has failed to be a lump of ice.

Great movie, but horrible 3-D, I mean horrible!!!!

My wife and I were so excited to bring this home to our 3 year old. This is his favorite movie and he damaged his 2-D version last week. What a disappointment when we dawned the old school 3-D glasses (that was fun), but the second the movie began it was ridiculous. There is nothing 3-D about this movie, only blurr (even with the glasses on). Do not waste your money, stick with the 2-D version or the 2-D Blue Ray version. Both are much better then the wanna be 3-D version. I would really like my money back. Luckily the normal version comes w/ the 3-D version.

awful in 3d, 2d is excellent

Bought this at the special 19.99 price.Could not wait to watch it that night in 3D. What a huge disappointment. It is completely unwatchable no matter how you try to look through the red/blue glasses.Switching to the 2d version, it was excellent. This disc has Dolby True HD soundtrack whereas the 2D blu ray disc has only DD 5.1,so buying the 3D disc is the better buy even if the 3D is unwatchable. I contacted WB and filed a complaint , all who buy this should do this as well. PS. I even tried a pair of glasses I kept from seeing UP in the movies in 3D, and that did not work either.
