The Skulls 2 [DVD] [2002]

The Skulls 2's DVD includes an on-the-set "Making Of" featurette that is the usual blather by the actors who are pumped because they got the gig. Have you ever heard one complain about the script or the director in one of these "documentaries"? It seems as though they're just reciting notes about their characters given to them by the filmmakers. There are text bios of the filmmakers and cast members, but the box says there are also "Production Notes" -- alas, there are none to be found. There is a "DVD Newsletter" tab, but that's just an invitation to register to get email from Universal Studios. The anamorphic transfer looks okay, but the production's use of colored backlighting takes a little of the crispness out of the digitized version. The Dolby Digital and DTS Surround soundtracks are excellent for this film as there is alot of alternative rock music in the score.

The Skulls II
The red-robed Skulls are at it again. The exclusive, sinister college fraternity that makes hazing seem like pillow fights inducts Ryan Sommers (Robin Dunne), who later secretly witnesses what appears to be the death of a woman at the hands of a Skull member. But of course, he can't tell on a Skull because the motto is "A Skull above all others," which is how some of these guys get to be high government leaders and megalomaniacal industrialists. Ryan's conscience bothers him anyway but once he begins investigating how to report the crime, his girlfriend, Ali (Ashley Lyn Cafagna), rejects him and seemingly everyone in a position to help him is a Skull. With the inspiration of lovely, good-hearted Kelly (Lindy Booth), Ryan proceeds to do what's right, even if it's wrong for him. ~ Buzz McClain, Rovi
