    Synopsis

    The Smurfs 2
Gargamel is back, and this time he's sending the Smurfs on a wild adventure through Paris in this globe-trotting sequel to the 2011 hit. Determined to harness the magical essence of the Smurfs, wicked wizard Gargamel (voice of Hank Azaria) creates a diminutive race of mischief makers known as the Naughties. But in order to get the results he's looking for, Gargamel will need to get his hands on a genuine Smurf. Enter Smurfette (voice of Katy Perry), the only one of her kind who knows the spell that can transform Naughties into actual Smurfs. Having recently shot to fame in Paris due to his impressive magical powers, Gargamel kidnaps Smurfette, and sweeps her away to the City of Light. With Papa Smurf (voice of Jonathan Winters) and company hot on his trail, however, the scheming wizard quickly realizes that executing his diabolical plan will be easier said than done. Meanwhile, Smurfette's growing sense of insecurity leaves her vulnerable to the scheming of Naughties Vexy (voice of Christina Ricci) and Hackus (voice of J.B. Smoove). Neil Patrick Harris and Jayma Mays also lend their voices. ~ Jason Buchanan, Rovi

Smurfs read the story of Smurfette. And how she was created by Gargamel to destroy all of them. How Papa Smurf rescues her and turns her into a Smurf. But she is having nightmares about reverting to her original form, and betraying her fellow Smurfs by turning them over to Gargamel. So the Smurfs are preparing a surprise birthday party for her, but as Smurfette tries to find out what her fellow Smurfs are planning, none of them are saying a word. She thinks this to mean that everyone has forgotten her birthday. The Smurfs witness the abduction of Smurfette they inform Papa Smurf, he uses his magic to create crystals that allow several of his Smurfs to travel directly to Patrick Winslow's residence in New York City in order to get his help to rescue Smurfette.

I think I'm one of the few people on Earth who thought the first Smurfs film was a decent, albeit not excellent, film. However, this film tries to stick to a similar formula to the first (a handful of Smurfs on an adventure in a big city) but fumbles a bit when it spends too much time on a half-hearted sisterly bonding gimmick and Gargamel spending way too much screen time pretending to be nice when it's obvious to everyone involved it just doesn't work. I got this as a gift for my daughter, who is a toddler. She really enjoyed the first film and watched it a lot. The Smurfs cracked her up. In this film, the Smurfs seem to have taken a hit in screen time and they just don't seem to have any fun moments, which bored her. She kept walking out during the film. That kind of says a lot to me.

I bought Smurfs 2, only to appease my 2-year old daughter who is obsessed with these little blue people. Saw it at the theater with absolutely zero expectations other than for an expensive nap...and then, much to my horror, I laughed out loud...and then I did it a few more times. My daughter was also thoroughly enjoying it, and there is no better sound better than your own child's laughter. I will readily admit to being a big fan of what are generally considered to be kids' movies (Disney, Despicable Me, Shrek, etc.). While this one is not necessarily at the top of that genre, keeping me from giving it the last star, it was enjoyable for what it is intended to be -- i.e., good, clean, family entertainment. If you go into it expecting that, you will not be disappointed

Good family film, but the 3d cimetography seemed to be lacking a bit, also the plot and results were always just right there, never any guessing about what was about to happen. A little twist in the plot is always nice. I would recomend it to families with younger children, but the adults are going to heavily criticize the film, but given that its very few actors really being filmed, and mostly cg work, I can understand the complications of the process. No offense to the actors, or the writers, but I think if they make a part 3...I think it should be a version of "the magic flute" I mean wouldn't it be great to see that in the live version with Jo'han and Peewee. Gargamel, and Azriel are great, but I think it would be nice to stay in the smurf demension next time.

Well, this isn't the best sequel. The main storyline concerning Smurfett is kind of predictable. However, the movie is hilarious. New and old cast members are great! I think that Hank Azaria should be nominated for an Academy award for his fantastic performance as Gargamel. The man was born to play Gargamel. Brendan Gleeson is really funny as Neil Patrick Harris' stepfather. Christina Ricci was good too as the voice of Vexy. I think that Jayma Mays had a reduced role in the sequel than she did in the first movie. In any case, this is a great family movie and I absolutely loved it despite its faults. Viewers of all ages will enjoy this movie. Highly recommended.

My 8 year old bought this movie with her own money a couple of weeks ago, and she pretty much has watched it non stop since then. Personally, I am a bit sick of it, because while I haven't actually watched it with her, it has been playing in the background so much that I have it memorized. It was a great price though at best buy, and we got a neat minion lunchbox for free!!

Everyone said the smurfs movie would suck and while the sequel isn't perfect it's still a decent kids film. The smurfs 2 can pull at your heart at points of the film with vexy and hackus and their acceptance into the smurf family. This film is a good film and I definitely recommend it for anyone who loves the smurfs or just a good film to watch.

This movie was a decent film for the little one. Although, it is not one he has asked for again. I, personally, don't care too much for this franchise, but I can't rate it poorly just because it isn't my usual type of movie. If you have kids that enjoyed the first movie, then you will probably get the same out of this one.
