Synopsis

The Social Network
Director David Fincher (Fight Club, Seven) teams with screenwriter Aaron Sorkin (The West Wing) to explore the meaning of success in the early 21st century from the perspectives of the technological innovators who revolutionized the way we all communicate. The year was 2003. As prohibitively expensive technology became affordable to the masses and the Internet made it easy to stay in touch with people who were halfway across the world, Harvard undergrad and computer programming wizard Mark Zuckerberg (Jesse Eisenberg) launched a website with the potential to alter the very fabric of our society. At the time, Zuckerberg was just six years away from making his first million. But his hearty payday would come at a high price, because despite all of Zuckerberg's wealth and success, his personal life began to suffer as he became mired in legal disputes, and discovered that many of the 500 million people he had friended during his rise to the top were eager to see him fall. Chief among that growing list of detractors was Zuckerberg's former college friend Eduardo Saverin (Andrew Garfield), whose generous financial contributions to Facebook served as the seed that helped the company to sprout. And some might argue that Zuckerberg's bold venture wouldn't have evolved into the cultural juggernaut that it ultimately became had Napster founder Sean Parker (Justin Timberlake) not spread the word about Facebook to the venture capitalists from Silicon Valley. Meanwhile, the Winklevoss twins (Armie Hammer and Josh Pence) engage Zuckerberg in a fierce courtroom battle for ownership of Facebook that left many suspecting the young entrepreneur might have let his greed eclipse his better judgment. The Social Network was based on the book The Accidental Billionaires by Ben Mezrich. ~ Jason Buchanan, Rovi

If someone were to give you the general synopsis that this film is about the rise of tech giant, Facebook, from a dorm, some people would think it sounds like it could be a boring film; however this film is anything but boring. It is filled with a lot of drama that will keep you on the edge of your seat wanting to know how things will unfold. This film is a great testament to when a great team (actors, director, screenplay writer, etc) is put together, you get an amazing film. The acting performances are great up and down the board. The writing is absolutely amazing and it especially shines with the superb dialogue. Fincher's directing style is clearly evident and it plays well in this film. Even the score styling was a great choice to complement the story. As for the quality of the DVD, it is quite good in an age with 4K as the new medium for film watching. The quality of the DVD stands up pretty well on my big screen compared to many of my blu-rays.

    Only a Great Story

I give this movie a high review because, as a film, it is a excellent. As a story it is a great extrapolation of events that occurred towards the creation of Facebook. But it isn't a documentary. When I was first told to watch this movie, it was pushed as a film that depicted the events of Facebook as though they were accurate. However, looking into it a little further I quickly found that, as with most movies, there was a good bit of creative license taken to explain things. With that in mind, I would recommend this movie as an interesting take on the story of the largest social network for its great storytelling, excellent cinematography and wonderful acting.

This movie is great and alot better than I thought that it would be. I didn't see this movie in the theater as all I saw was the preview and I knew that I would like it, so I bought it and I just couldn't be any happier. It has a really great story, and the cast is perfect. I hope that it wins some Oscars/Golden Globes for Best Actor(Jesse Eisenberg), Best Picture, etc. As I said in the title it is one of the best movies ever!

"The Social Network" embodies the look and feel of the digital age, with a quick pace and pristine cinematography, and this Blu-ray release captures that look and feel very well. Additionally, the bonus features including the making-of featurettes and David Fincher's audio commentary offer a fascinating look at how this film was put together. Really glad I got this, especially at the low sale price.

The Social Network is a dramatized version of the founding of Facebook, based off of true events. How much of it is true and how much of it has been touched up by Hollywood is irrelevant, as the movie provides a gripping, suspenseful, and full-on entertaining experience. The acting is top notch and I also loved the score. The pacing is good throughout the movie, which is something that can't be said for all longer movies. Social Network was easily the best film of 2010.

I had seen this movie before. Probably a dvd rental. Decided to bite the bullet and buy the blu ray because it was on sale and wanted to see the movie again. Blu ray quality did not disappoint. Not a Facebook fan but seeing how the phenomenon started and being a fan of David Fincher who also directed Gone Girl, Zodiac, and Seven made it worth it.

I absolutely love this movie from beginning to the end. This movie was beyond my expectations and I thought it was just mind blowing. For someone, to make a movie about the secrets behind facebook and bring the actual script to life was breathtaking. I felt that this movie was overall one of the best films of 2010, and will deftly win the Oscars for the movie of the year. MUST PURCHASE!!!

Since this is a David Fincher movie I know a lot of you are in a wait and see mode for the Criterion version. Don't bother, this is the version to get and you can get it at a fantastic price. The transfer on this disc is one of the best I've seen, although I wish it had a two-channel sound option. The packaging is slick (keep the plastic wrap on by cutting out the lefthand side). The extras are in-depth and immersive. Highly reccomended.
