Synopsis

The Sorcerer's Apprentice
Inspired by the beloved segment of the Walt Disney classic Fantasia, The Sorcerer's Apprentice moves the setting of the story to modern-day Manhattan, where decidedly average teen Dave Stutler (Jay Baruchel) hones his magical powers under the tutelage of master sorcerer Balthazar Blake (Nicolas Cage). Malevolent wizard Maxim Horvath (Alfred Molina) is determined to claim New York City as his own. And Horvath isn't alone in his diabolical endeavor, because by joining forces with the sinister sorcerer, pop illusionist Drake Stone (Toby Kebbell) aspires to gain powers beyond his wildest imagination. Realizing that he can't take on Horvath and Stone alone, Blake recruits Stutler as his reluctant assistant and begins training him the battle that will determine the fate of the Big Apple. Teresa Palmer and Monica Bellucci co-star. ~ Jason Buchanan, Rovi

We went to this movie thinking the worst. Well,it was anything but that, it was amazing! Why all the bad reviews. Not Harry Potterish, it was a great adventure. My husband doesn't care for Harry Potter movies but enjoys adventure and disney. We found It is very entertaining, fast moving, fun, full of twists and turns. We really enjoyed it, and were glad we decided to give it a chance. Amazing, Cage took a cartoon he loved. made it into a movie. There was great acting and adventure throughout this movie. This switch from cartoon to the big screen while not easy to do doesn't always work, this translated well. Well, this is worth the price of admission. Remember a movie critic review is only the opinion of one person:) Go see it!

It's a fun film but it doesn't excel at anything in particular. I personally liked the cast so I enjoy just about everything they've made. Alfred Molina plays a really amusing villain...to the point that I was rooting for him at various points in the film. The rest of the cast plays their usual roles that they do in their other movies (not complaining). It won't win any Oscars but if you're looking for a simple and fun movie just to relax your mind, this would be a decent movie to do so.

We all love Crazy Cage, and he is on par in this wonderful family flick as Balthazar Blake, sorcerer to Jay Baruchel's apprentice of the title. Cage does a great job performing his way through an over 100 minute movie based on a small segment from Disney's anthology flick, Anastasia. Normally this such a thing ends badly. I'm happy to say this is not the case. A wonderful, entertaining, family-friendly flick.

I REALLY liked this one. It was done very well, and the action and acting really kept you going to the end. Toss in the mixture of a love story, modern science and being something different from other movies you see, and it is enough to get you started. The acting and special effects keep it going, and a good ending wraps it up nicely! Wonder what the next part will look like!

Disney has taken a small scene from the movie Fantasia and made a feature length movie. It actually deserves a three and a half but it will only let me give whole stars. Definitely worth watching with a great scene dedicated to the original sorserer’s apprentice- dancing mops included!

This is an excellent expansion on the Fantasia segment. For anyone looking for a good "Family Night" movie, this one wonderful. Nothing that you have to think too much about and a happy ending. The cinematography puts on an extra good show too. Some of the acting seems a little forced at times, but overall it flows pretty well. Enjoyed this one!

I found this movie on blu-ray @ best buy on sale for 14.99. I love Nicholas Cage in this movie as a sorcerer looking for the one who can wear and bring back to life Merlin's ring. Love Jay Baruchel as the reluctant student. Love who the Music of One Republic bounces off the coils. Love getting lost in the Magic. Wish that I could perform some of that magic.
