Synopsis

The Taking of Pelham 1 2 3
A New York City subway dispatcher draws on his extensive knowledge of the subway system in order to outsmart a dangerous criminal mastermind who's hijacked a subway train in this remake of the 1974 thriller inspired by John Godey's best-selling book. Walter Garber (Denzel Washington) is drifting through his daily routine when he receives word that a heavily armed gang of four has hijacked a subway train and is holding all of the passengers hostage. Led by cunning master thief Ryder (John Travolta), the gunmen will begin executing everyone aboard should the authorities fail in delivering ten million dollars in the space of just one hour. With the tension in the tunnels rising, Walter races to save the hostages before the shootings start. But through it all, there's one part of Ryder's plan that Walter can't quite comprehend: even if the thieves do succeed in getting their money, how could they possibly get out of the tunnels undetected? ~ Jason Buchanan, Rovi

    Better Than the Original one

"The Taking of Pelham 1 2 3 is a really good movie Director Tony Scott did a really good Job Directing this Movie. John Travolta and Denzel Washington are at there best in this Movie, I mean Ryder is a Thief who is trying to Hijack the Train and it's not too long before Walter Garber finds out what's going on and he tries to prevent them from Taking the Train John Travolta is a Genius as a Master Thief in this Movie I'd Recommend this Movie to someone that I know that's how good this movie is I mean it's not the best but it was a lot better than the Original one and I think it's great how they can do a remake of this movie This movie is truly an inspirational Thriller I really enjoyed this Movie and if you Decide to see this movie I hope you enjoy it as much as I did what's great about this movie is the suspense and the drama I mean the fact that Ryder is even trying to take the Train is great but however he doesn't get to do that because Walter Garber is too busy trying to stop him from getting away with taking the Train.

    Don't Take The Subway

This movie is not really big on setpieces, but it does a good job of reeling you in with it's story, and characters.Walter Garber(Denzel Washington) is a New York City subaway dispatcher, who is drifting through his daily routine when he receives word that a heavily armed gang of four men has hijacked a subway train full of passengers. The leader of the gang is a man by the name of Ryder(John Travolta),who will begin executing hostages if he doesn't recieve ten million dollars in the space of just one hour. The thrills are almost from movies you've probably seen before "Speed(1994)".The acting from Denzel and John draws you in.It seems like the director Tony Scott wanted this movie to be shot in almost real-time,your almost tempted to start counting down to see if someone gets killed. The ending of the movie is not as big as you think, but it's entertaining none the less.

    Okay - but needlessly profane.

Yeah, I guess I'm a dinosaur. I can remember when movies could maintain suspense and intensity without having to lace every sentence with a multitude of "f-bombs" and other mindless profanity. Has our society degenerated to the point where such drivel has become not only an accepted - but expected - ingredient in modern dialogue? Granted, the plot of the movie is essentially one that lends itself to violence (and there's plenty of that too), but in my view, excellent cinematography and a promising storyline was undermined by this dialogue. (I received this DVD free as part of a bundled offer when I purchased a new Sony 46" XBR8 TV, and I didn't get a choice of title; otherwise, I would have selected something else.)

    Second remake

Not as good as the original, but better than the first remake. Unfortunately, Tony Scott still has the cameras doing gymnastics...spinnning, sped-up, etc. Butboth of the leads are fine here (although you've seen Travolta do this before in BROKEN ARROW). And some of the action scenes (particularly the race to deliver the money) feel as if they are simply shoe-horned in there just to meet the demands of a summer film. The HD PQ is pretty good, but the disc doesn't have a lot of extras (No deleted scenes????) Not particularly memorable, but certainly entertaining.

The movie was a remake of earlier one with Walter Mathau and Robert Shaw. The original was better. The remake added some different side stories that were not included in the original. The movie was okay but not as good as the original.

I only got this movie as part of the Best Buy package. I might not have even rented it otherwise; I'm not that into action thrillers. I really enjoyed this, though. John Travolta is such a psycho, I didn't know he had that in him!

    Good Movie

The movie is 'action' - some unrealistic events with the subway runaway train and the passangers on the train - Good acting by the main characters - the actors are the main reason I chose this movie.
