Synopsis

Even non-devotees of The Twilight Zone are able to distinguish the series' first-season episodes from the later installments. Instead of the familiar "dee-dee-dee-doo, dee-dee-dee-doo" theme music by Marius Constant, each season-one Twilight Zone was introduced with a more lugubrious, string-dominated theme by the great Bernard Herrmann, who also composed the incidental music for such classic first-season episodes as "The Lonely" and "Walking Distance." Also, series creator and host narrator Rod Serling does not appear on camera to deliver his opening and closing narration -- except for a delightful gag appearance at the end of the season's final episode, "A World of His Own." The series' two most frequent guest stars make their inaugural Twilight Zone appearances in the course of season one. Burgess Meredith is poignantly cast as a myopic bookworm who ends up a sole survivor of a nuclear holocaust in "Time Enough at Last," while Jack Klugman is seen as a luckless musician whose life is turned around by a remarkable near-death experience in "A Passage for Trumpet." Other notable actors appearing in this season's 36 episodes include Martin Landau, Fritz Weaver, Ed Wynn, David Wayne, Vera Miles, Ida Lupino, Anne Francis, and Roddy McDowall. Among the best and most memorable episodes of the first-season Twilight Zone crop are "Third From the Sun," "The Monsters are Due on Maple Street," "People Are Alike All Over," and "A Stop at Willoughby." Lesser episodes, though still worthy of special mention, include the series opener "Where Is Everybody?," one of the few Zones with a "logical" rather than supernatural ending; "The Hitch-Hiker," a haunting adaptation of Lucille Fletcher's classic radio play; "The Mighty Casey," a baseball fantasy which had to be filmed twice so that Jack Warden could replace the original story by Paul Douglas, who fell ill during shooting and died shortly afterward; and "Mr. Bevis," which Rod Serling intended as the pilot for a series about a bumbling guardian angel.

I was skeptical since this is DVD and not Blu-Ray but the quality of the video is quite good and dare I say it looks like they updated the video quality from past DVD releases. The only issue is there is no "play all" function so you end up having to play one episode at a time. Other than that, I highly recommend this set. Add to it, it also has the original commercials/advertisements that would run at the end of the episodes back in the 50s, along with promos for next weeks episodes with Rod Serling himself. Def a nice add in.

If you’re into classic late night cult tv then this is a must for any collector or just a fan of the tv classic. After all how many times have you heard that there’s going to be a Twilight zone marathon? Now you can personally do your own. Or for that matter how about a zone party. How cool would that be? Perhaps it would be such a success that it became an annual event with costumes theme from each episode.

My wife picked up The Twilight Zone Complete Series for me at Christmas and I couldn't be happier. There are other sets with more bells and whistles, but for anyone who just wants the complete set with all episodes uncut (and featuring teases from Rod Serling on future episodes), this is it. It is so marvelous to actually see the uncut episodes again. Highly recommended!

This is a MUST for any Twilight Zone fan! Now you don't have to wait for the annual marathon, but you can have your own TZ marathon anytime you want. The videos are crystal clear, the audio is great. The only think missing are the commercials...there are even show intros by Rod Sterling after each episode! If you are a fan, get a copy...and the price is the best!.

I've loved twilight zone for as long as I can remember, watching the sci Fi channel 24 hour marathons were always great. This set is reasonably priced and includes all the episodes. I've found it a great set to just pick a random episode. I don't know that a blu ray set would be of much better quality so I find this to be a great value.

Growing up this was one of my most favorite shows. Watching each segment and having to wait out the commercials was agonizing. My brother and I would be plastered to the 20 inch TV set and hung on every second it played. The best episode was about the creature in the walls of a house and being sucked out with an old vacuum. Full of suspense!

I looked forward to watching the Twilight Zone when it originally aired on television and still enjoy watching episodes on marathon runs on television. With this collection of all the shows, I am able to see episodes that I may not have seen andr enjoy watching episodes I remember and still enjoy.

I've always been a fan of "The Twilight Zone" and enjoy discussing episodes with my friends with the same interest. Now I can watch my favorite episodes or any of the others at my convenience. Love it! The quality is great -even for a TV series from long ago.
