Synopsis

The Ultimate Gift
Filmmaker Michael O. Sajbel explores the relationship between wealth and happiness with this spiritual-minded tale about a privileged young man who receives a most unexpected inheritance. Adapted from the best-selling book by author Jim Stovall, The Ultimate Gift opens as trust-fund baby Jason Stevens (Drew Fuller) prepares to receive a sizable inheritance from his late grandfather Red (James Garner). Though Jason is convinced that the money is about to come flowing in, he receives a sudden shock upon discovering that Red has instead decided to offer him something much more valuable than simple cash. Realizing that his spoiled grandson has lived a sheltered life in which he has always been handed the very best of everything, Red has devised a crash course in living comprised of 12 gifts that will challenge the arrogant young man in ways that he could never have imagined nor anticipated. In the weeks that follow, Jason will befriend a terminally ill child (Abigail Breslin) and her grief-stricken mother (Ali Hillis) while attempting to determine whether it is money or happiness that truly matters in life. Brian Dennehy and Lee Meriwether co-star in an uplifting drama from the director of The Ride and One Night with the King. ~ Jason Buchanan, Rovi

    Perfect coming of age story

Absolutely breathe taking movie. This movie is based upon a book. It will be hard to put into words how powerful this movie is but I will try; boiled down it is about a rich boy who is taken away from everything he knows and is forced to grow into the man that he was meant to become. Along the way he meets a mother and daughter who have a larger impact on his life than he ever thought possible. As he gets closer to them he finds that he no longer lives for himself but rather for them. This movie touched me in a way that I cannot and will not try to describe. Nor will I give any more of the story because as a viewer you need to see this not just be told about it. Be prepared to be touched by this movie and have you eyes opened just a little bit. This is a true movie made in the old ways when the story mattered more than the special effects. Very well done indeed.

Wow, when this came out to the theatres, I blew it off. I'm so glad a friend shared it with me. It's inspirational, has great life lessons for everyone. A must see for the whole family. That's one of the best movies I've seen in a while. A movie doesnt have to have special effects to be good. (As stated by another reviewer) I also noticed the list of all the gifts at the end. Don't miss this one !!!! We all need to be reminded of these gifts.

A great holiday movie with a heart warming, edifying story that truly embodies the spirit of Thanksgiving and Christmas. You wont be embarrassed to watch with your young children, and it provides plenty of opportunities to create "teachable moments". The plot is a little predictable, but still well worth the price.

James Garner was wonderful in what he did to wake up his grandson. He made him see that everyone needs to work for what they have and in the end the sick little girl and her mother were helped by this selfish grandson that turned out to be a very nice guy with all he did. LOVED it!!

This movie reflects what can happen in real life. How some people can change. While some people can make a difference in the life of others. If you are emotional you better have a hankie or tissue nearby. You might need it!

I really love this movie. We saw it in the theater and this was the first time I had seen it in a store. I had to buy it especially since it was so cheap! I really love this movie and even let my kids watch it dispite the sadness at the end.

The movie opens with the main character who is self absorbed and not very likable. As the movie evolves, we watch as he is challenged with different tasks and develops into a responsible caring person. It was a heartwarming story.
