A definitive collection of Dokken Metal hits!

If you are looking for the complete greatest hits package of Dokken, you have found it. "The Very Best Of Dokken" includes the best tracks from the very first album "Breaking The Chains up to the 1995 release "Dysfunctional". Dokken is still in the Hard Rock/Metal forefront to this day, providing us with more great current Metal. "Breaking The Chains" showcases the first bassist for Dokken, Juan Croucier, who later joined Ratt. Bassist Jeff Pilson joins on with Dokken with the album "Tooth And Nail", which spawned the great tunes "Into The Fire", "Just Got Lucky" and "Alone Again". I always liked the way Dokken presented ballads. The Metal edginess always lingers throughout all Dokken ballads, "Alone Again" is a perfect example. "Dream Warriors" really rocks, it was part of the soundtrack for "A Nightmare On Elm Street 3" and found on the "Back For The Attack" album. You will also hear "Mirror Mirror" from Don Dokken's solo album "Up From The Ashes", released in 1990. Mikkey Dee plays drums and John Norum plays guitar on "Mirror Mirror". "Mr. Scary" is a powerhouse instrumental played by George Lynch on lead guitar. George Lynch flexes his Heavy Metal muscle here, showcasing why he had become such an influential guitarist and exploits his uncanny talent. George Lynch has since been nicknamed "Mr. Scary" because of this historical Metal instrumental moment. Don Dokken on vocals is sensational, he can sing the heavy stuff along with ballads effortlessly, I have always considered his voice flawless. To sum up this album, you will no doubt enjoy the way in which Dokken incorporated vocal harmonies, melodies, searing solo's, riffs and leads and melting them together to create some of the most fantastic Heavy Metal the 1980's had to offer. Dokken as featured here: Don Dokken (vocals), George Lynch (guitar), Jeff Pilson (bass & keyboards) and Mick Brown (drums). The liner notes are heavy duty, with 16 pages of Dokken history, band photos, and tons of album credits. I heavily recommend "The Very Best Of Dokken" to any and all Hard Rock and Heavy Metal fans worldwide!

While re-listening and re-discovering those 80s bands of hard rock( for example Judas Priest , Iron Maiden , Poison , Cinderella , etc. just to name a few) I picked up this gem by Dokken. Two heavy egos would catapult this group into platinum heaven but for only a brief moment or two. But as they say - the moments were memorable. From Don Dokken's searing vocals to George Lynch's piercing guitar work , they remained and maintained their presence as one of the better heavy metal bands of the 80s. Take a listen to cuts like'In My Dreams' , 'Just Got Lucky' , or 'Breaking The Chains'. Don't forget the classic track 'Dream Warriors' from the forgettable Freddy Krueger "Nightmare" flicks. Oh yes just when you think you've heard them all , you get the pure power ballad 'Alone Again'.Yes , Dokken made an impression in their time and there are 16 great examples right here.......

Dokken was a solid, if not overly famous, band that didn't get a lot of normal FM radio airplay, but lives on through XM radio. All of their big hits are here, as well as some other good songs. This cd is a great chance to get familiar with the band if you haven't already done so-their fans will already have these songs, so for them, it would just be a convenient way to have everything on 1 disc.

If you like this band, you'll like this disk. A bunch of sounds a really liked years ago, the good part, they didn't "over" mix them, the sound is honest to the original, not brightened or anything else to "hype" it up. Now, you should remember, the recordings back then weren't great, but these are honest to the period, brings back many guitar hero memories.

This quartet probably had more tension with its members than any hair metal band, but there are some excellent 80's tracks on here that bring back memories. It was worth the buy at $5.99 to hear those hits again.

The Very Best Of Dokken is the perfect soundtrack to a lazy summer night, lying on the hood in a secluded area (Lookout Point near where I live), watching the moon and gazing at the stars. The city lights are in the distance, adding to the scenery.

Dokken did not start out as a hair band.In fact, they were a band that was considered heavy metal when they debuted. These songs are timeless.
