    Synopsis

Before the black oil, the Cigarette Smoking Man, and the threat of global alien colonization, there was just Fox "Spooky" Mulder (David Duchovny) researching FBI cases with a paranormal bent in his basement office and Scully (Gillian Anderson), the skeptical agent with a degree in medicine and directions to debunk Mulder's findings. Thus, The X-Files: Season One is relatively devoid of the vast government conspiracy for which the series would become known, and serves mainly as an introduction to the show's two protagonists. Mulder, despite his reputation, is no kook; best in his class and well-known for his criminal profiling abilities, the rogue agent chose his path in hopes of finding his sister, Samantha, whom he witnessed -- or, at least, believes he witnessed -- being abducted by aliens. As eager as Mulder is to find an unearthly solution to his cases, Scully is equally determined to find an answer more consistent with the laws of science. Alone, both agents are somewhat blinded by their respective philosophies, but as partners they are able to complement one another nicely, and Scully's initial task is thrown to the wayside for a deep friendship and mutual respect that would test the boundaries of work, and ultimately the planet itself. ~ Tracie Cooper

The first season of the science fiction television series The X-Files commenced airing on the Fox network in the United States on September 10, 1993, and concluded on the same channel on May 13, 1994, after airing all 24 episodes. The first season introduced main characters of the series, including Fox Mulder and Dana Scully who were portrayed by David Duchovny and Gillian Anderson respectively, and recurring characters Deep Throat, Walter Skinner and Cigarette Smoking Man. The season introduced the series' main concept, revolving around the investigation of paranormal or supernatural cases, known as X-Files, by the Federal Bureau of Investigation; it also began to lay the groundwork for the series' overarching mythology. Initially influenced by Kolchak: The Night Stalker and The Twilight Zone, series creator Chris Carter pitched the idea for the series to Fox twice before it was accepted for production. The season saw the series quickly gaining popularity, with ratings rising steadily throughout its run; and garnered generally positive reviews from critics and the media. It helped to make stars of its two lead roles, and several of its taglines and catchphrases have since become cultural staples. Used to own on VHS and DVD. Has ALL features from Season 1 and the various Compilation DVDs for this Season. Featured in 1.78:1 which the original broadcast was 1.33:1 TV ratio. For those who'd rather have both aspect ratios, it's recommended to keep the DVD when having the Blu-ray disc.

      BEST SHOW EVER!

This is the season where it all begins. Although Scully was sent to debunk Mulder's work on the X-Files, the chemistry between the two characters are enthralling. For only knowing each other for such a short amount of time, they place complete trust in one another. The pilot is an excellent episode, setting the stage by saying it is based on actual events. The viewer sees the work and dedication Mulder and Scully put into the X-Files, even if it's just to be covered up by mysterious government agents. The season itself is filled with aliens, mutants, and government conspiracies. We get a lot of information on Mulder's background, making him a sympathetic character. Scully makes a great female lead because she knows how to kick butt. For a Sci/Fi show, the X-Files is pretty realistic. People who die stay dead, unless their body was never found. And even some of the supernatural events are based on real claims.

If you're looking for science fiction work, with a bit of "in the news" thrown in for good measure, you've come to the right place. X-Files, season one, is a great place to start, after all, it was Mulder and Scully's start into the world of the unknown and unexplained. Mulder thinks he can explain it (the answers are out there)...if you've never saw the series before, this is a great time to start "catching up" as FOX has announced a six-episode run of NEW EPISODES of the show coming soon! In all there were nine seasons (202 shows). Chris Carter (series creator) will return as executive producer and writer, and David Duchovny (Mulder), Gillian Anderson (Scully), and Mitch Pileggi (Walter Skinner) will reprise their roles. It will premiere on January 24, 2016. This season includes the episodes, "Pilot", "Deep Throat", "Squeeze", "Conduit", "Ice", "Fallen Angel", "Eve", "Beyond The Sea", "E.B.E", "Darkness Falls", "Tooms", and "The Erlenmeyer Flask," and others. Great TV!

As a long time fan, it's crazy to look back at the first season of the show and see how far they've come! Go back in time to when slide projectors were still in use, pay phones were on every street corner, cell phones were either bricks or had retractable antennas, and shoulder pads were all the rage! More importantly, see when Mulder met Scully and a quest for the ever-illusive truth was born! Scully is the consummate skeptical scientist, Mulder the paranoid genius who wants to believe, and both are weary of each other in their first encounter, but even then, there is a deep seated respect and trust that comes to life in that first encounter and builds so rapidly that by episode 3 (a personal fave) the two have already become the inseparable 'Mulder & Scully'. See the early origins of the mythology and how Mulder & Scully become a team that will take on the world -- literally -- and live to tell about it. Don't miss this!

I am a big fan of sci-fi movies and TV shows. While I never got into Dr. Who (but will give it a chance again), I never had the opportunity to watch X-Files. Best Buy had X-Files on Blu-ray on sale, and I thought it was a perfect chance to see what the fuss is all about. The first episode (the pilot), was good enough for me. It somewhat appears dated (probably due to the budget constraint), and the actors were trying to get into their characters. I had to remind myself that David Duchovny (at least his character) speaks in monotone. This is no worse than the pilot episode of Star Trek (original, next-generation, Voyager, etc.) so I will continue to watch this, and perhaps built my Blu-ray collection of the show. If you are curious about the show and if you have not seen it, the price was very reasonable, and I am happy that I bought it.

The X-Files was one of the best shows of all time and I have been wanting to own them for a long while so when i seen them on sale a few weeks back I bought the whole set, The down side was this is the 3rd time I have ordered from bestbuy.com and my order was damaged, some of the teeth that hold the disks was broke and missing on a few of the disks I tired to return once before when this happened to my stargate sg1 set and was given nothing but lip and hassle so I didnt even bother trying to return the two damaged seasons this time.... best buy usually has great prices on their dvd and bluray movies but I will never order off their website again, paying as much as I have for damaged stuff and getting attitude when I try and return them with the original packaging and receipt is total BS and has turned me off from buying from them except in store

If you're reading this review you're probably trying to decide whether to invest some of your hard-earned dollars into a 9 (soon 10) season series. If you're a fan of the series, then you'll certainly want to seriously consider that - especially after viewing season 1 of "The X-Files". The series gets off to great start with this DVD and leaves fans wanting more after watching the first 24 episodes. The transfer to Blu-Ray adds depth and quality to the production values of the show. There are more than a few quality extras (not filler) such as commentary from creators Chris Carter and Frank Spotnitz, deleted scenes, special effects sequences, and voice overs on selected episodes. So, start saving now because once you watch season 1, you'll be hooked on adding the other seasons to your collection.

first off I have owed all 9 seasons of the x-files on dvd and have binged watched them here or there over the years , but when I found out that they were coming out on blue ray, I got re-excited ! I have binge watched the seasons as I have bought them so heres my breakdown of season1: picture quality is great, the darks are a little dark, but the aspect ratio seems better than the dvd releases. sound is about the same, but the best thing is finally after all these years I can get rid of the huge cases that the dvds came in to a more slimline blu ray case. the first seasons stories are a little odd, as they have not established the charaters yet, and mulder is an odd conspiracy freak with scully still not a believer...
