Flawless DVR but apps a little slow
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.TiVo has always been the leader in DVR devices and this device lives up to the standard. Great for cord-cutters because it combines OTA channels with apps to help you find all seasons and shows you're looking for. I use this and subscribe to online TV service and have reduced my bill by more than half. Pros: TV and DVR work flawless without any hiccups and setup is easy. Easily add TiVo mini to access from another room. No monthly fees. Easily upgradeable. Supports all major app services in addition to Plex. Easily extended to second room with TiVo Mini. Abundant ports. Great UI Cons: Apps run a little slower than they would on new entertainment boxes like Apple TV or Fire TV. Streaming shows to phone or out of house requires purchase of additional TiVo stream.

Tivo and Cutting the Cord
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I was paying $130 a month on Satellite services. I was fed up with misc. channels disappearing because of the fighting. So, I went to BestBuy bought an Antenna, TiVo Roamio and TiVo Mini. I bought the Roamio because I didn't want to pay a monthly fee. I recovered my cost for the Antenna, Roamio and mini in just 5 months and I love it. Picture is perfect there are a lot free TV station over the air (OTA). There are plenty of apps for the Roamio also, I mostly use Netflix, Amazon and even subscribe to a couple more like Cinemax and HBO for $10 more, well worth it! I have a great selection of movies and I record my favorite network shows that come OTA, what can I say I love it!

Great option for Cord Cutters - no monthly fee!
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Removed my DirecTV dish and replaced it with a Channel Master Antenna and purchased this Tivo. Been a happy user for quite a few years now and the Menuing system is the best part of the Tivo. Has Smart TV apps included (note only HD NOT 4K) for Netflix, Hulu, PLEX (which I love) and a few more. Could just get an antenna and plug it into your TV (if it still has a tuner) but being able to pause Live TV is nice to have when needed. Tivo recorded shows for most major networks have the commercial skipping option which is great also.

Tivo not standing behind malfunctioning product
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Bought new on 7-2-16. It broke down 3 months later. Tivo sent a replacement that was rebuilt not new. It broke down within 4 days. They will not replace my new unit with a new unit instead sending another rebuilt unit. I paid for a new unit not a rebuilt one. Tivo - Poor Poor Poor

Excellent OTA Experience
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I'm in the process of cutting the cord and one thing I couldn't see doing without is the DVR, so I decided to give the TiVo Roamio OTA a whirl. Fortunately, it does the job and does it well. It's a bit of an up-front financial investment, but with the money you'll save every month on cable/satellite fees and the fact that TiVo no longer charges for the monthly guide service, it'll pay for itself in no time. The installation and setup was pretty straightforward and they give you a clear step by step guide to follow. After it's all hooked up, you turn everything on, follow the on-screen prompts, and register your account online. Once everything is activated, you're good to go. If you're coming from a different DVR service, the menus and features will take a little getting used to, but overall it's very well done. Having 4 tuners and all the major streaming media services (Amazon Prime Video, Netflix, Huiu, etc.) built in is a major plus. All that being said, your experience will completely depend on getting a good Over The Air HD antenna that works best for your location. I would suggest experimenting with different antennas FIRST with just your TV, finding the one that works best for you, THEN buy the TiVo once you know you can get the channels you want. If you're not able to receive the station broadcasts you like to watch, the whole thing is pretty much pointless.

Best OTA DVR you can buy but not perfect
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. After cutting the cable cord you will need a DVR for over the air TV. I researched 4 different makes and came up with the TIVO Roamio 1TB is it good but not perfect. I have had several pay system DVRs from Comcast, Direct TV and Dish. Things I liked: The feel of the remote, crispness of the buttons The LEDs on the box tell you how many tuners are being used at any one time I like this I love the commercial skip button when it works which it does with about 70% of TV shows. Things I did not like: Advertisements everywhere TIVO calls them suggestions but they are trying to get you to buy something or subscribe to something and there is no way to turn it off. Given this is a subscription service you pay for the guides and to connect to their network it should be free of ads. The FF button to skip commercials the skip button does not work on is way to slow 3 levels of speed all of which are much slower then everyone else. You cannot set the program to wait for a few minutes before starting a recording, like if you want to skip 1 minute of intros and network credits, you can only add time to the beginning or end not shorten. The guide system is totally alien to every previous DVR you have ever seen. Its also very clumsy and requires too many keys to do basic things. If you are used to a grid system this will shock you its all menu driven weird system. No power button you cannot turn it off ridiculous the stand by button is buried deep in a sub menu. The DVR button is on the top of the remote it should be in the center as its often used, the most important buttons are way to small and spread out too far. Lastly and this could be a deal breaker for many the setup from turning on to actually being able to use it for the first time takes 2 full hours no exaggeration I timed it. You connect to the internet as you have to it needs to update the guide for 30 minutes before the first use then it must update the firmware for another 30 minutes no way around it. You must register the TIVO before using it which takes 1 hour because the people on the phone dont speak english and dont understand their products. TIVO Roamio is lifetime subscription included yet 3 different people insisted I give them a credit card and pay for a monthly subscription only the supervisor figured out the Roamio is free (included with purchase). When you buy a new electronic toy you want to start using it right away to make anyone suffer through 2 hours of setup is bad product testing. While its sad that this is the best I could find and still have problems just means that companies need to have actual TV users test their products prior to marketing. But this is the best DVR or PVR on the market sad to say.

Competent and Comfortable Option for Cordcutters
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I've missed having the convenience of a DVR since cutting the cord a couple years ago, but the Tivo Roamio OTA finally provided a solution I was comfortable with trying. My biggest considerations prior to purchasing an OTA DVR were the quality of the tuners and the long-term viability of the unit. With the Tivo name, I was not worried about viability as compared with some of the other options. After purchasing the unit and using it for around 6 weeks, I can confidently say that the tuners in the unit are as good as if not slightly better than the tuner on my Samsung TV. The included RF remote is quick and responsive, but programing my Harmony remote has shown a little bit of lag with it's use. The included apps (Hulu, Amazon, etc) are slow to load and buffer as compared to my Roku units, but there is a convenience factor with Tivo One Pass which will keep track of shows that i am not able to get OTA as they are being added to one of my subscription services. Overall, the Roamio OTA is a competent option for those of us who don't want to spend a fortune on cable/satellite but still want the flexibility provided by a DVR.

Perfect for OTA
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This Tivo is perfect if you get your TV over the air. The guide data is free for the life of the device. You'll be able to pause live TV, setup full season recordings, use the nice channel guide, etc. This Tivo also has an eco setting that will put it into a lower power mode when not in use. In low power mode, the Tivo won't record any programming other than your specific scheduled recordings (otherwise it's constantly recording stuff and using up electricity). You can still choose to have it on all the time, in which case it will constantly record shows it thinks you might like (as long as there's room). I rated it 5 stars because it does everything I wanted it to do and does it well. Be forewarned though, the initial setup is kind of a pain. The box will come up and ask you to enter all your information (which isn't done very quickly using the remote) and then have you enter your zip code, then will chug along for about 10 minutes only to eventually tell you there is no guide data for your zip code, and to enter another zip code. It then makes you start completely over (having to enter all your information again) multiple times as you try zip codes for surrounding areas, only to be told there's no guide data every time. So then you'll go online and start searching for problems like this, and see that others are experiencing the same thing. What's happening is the Tivo needs to update its firmware, but instead of that being the first step in the setup, or instead of there being any message anywhere that lets you know firmware is being updated, it just does it in the background while it keeps walking you through the setup, asking you to re-enter all your info, telling you no data for your zip code, etc, until it magically reboots itself at some point (after 20 to 30 minutes). Then it will go through the setup again, except this time it will actually be able to find guide data for your zip code, and the setup process will continue, but it still takes a while (and a couple more reboots) to fully complete. Overall, the setup process takes about an hour or so, and is pretty frustrating. But once it's up and working, it works great, and I didn't feel like that one time annoyance constituted removing a star.

Q: QuestionDoes this model require a monthly TiVo fee?
Asked by Anonymous.
- A:Answer The product is supposed to start shipping any day now. And the TiVo site has almost no details-- they link to the Amazon sale page. Accoring to Amazon and a Cnet report on the product announcement: this model will ome with a lifetime subscription. This makes it a reasonable deal because the purchase cost is roughly the same as the earlier model + 30 month subscription. For Cnet report, search on "TiVo goes after cable cutters with more storage, no service fee" Also search for: "TiVo Roamio OTA 1000 GB DVR: Digital Video Recorder and Streaming Media Player - Compatible with any HD digital antenna - now with no monthly service fees"

Q: QuestionIf there is no tuner, how does it receive ota broadcasts?
Asked by JTBellaire.
- A:Answer This model actually has 4 tuners. That's how it can record up to 4 shows (or record 3 while you watch a 4th).

Q: QuestionWhat can I do with a tivo and very basic cable? Can I still use Netflix and record shows available based on my cable contract?
Asked by leeroy.
- A:Answer This TiVo is the Over the Air model, "OTA". Over the Air requires an Antenna be purchased and connected to the TiVo. This TiVo OTA will not work with Cable Tv. However, TiVo makes several models that will work with Cable TV. People who purchase this TiVo model are people who are tired of paying for Cable TV. It is surprising how many millions of people don't realize High Definition broadcast TV is "free" and all you need is an antenna. CBS, NBC, ABC, FOX, CW and Public TV all brodcast wireless tv signals in beautiful high definition and all you need is an antenna. This TiVo OTA model will let you stream Hulu and Netflix. However, you will not be able to record Hulu or Netflix.

Q: QuestionCan I use this with and HDTV antenna or do I need to have a cable subscription?
Asked by kumar.
- A:Answer You can only use an HDTV OTA Antenna with this. Cannot be used with a cablecard.

Q: QuestionWith this new model with no mothly fee ,can you use the OTA DVR without wifi?
Asked by tvviewer.
- A:Answer With the Roamio OTA and the lifetime subscription, you can connect to your network via wifi OR Ethernet cable. If you don't connect it to your network and register the unit, you will not have access to a lot of the features (like One Pass to automatically record series or the included apps like Hulu). If you pay for the model with the lifetime subscription (no monthly fee), you've already paid to register so there is really no reason not to connect it.

Q: QuestionI understand that TIVO was recently bought by another company whereby their customer service went to pot. Has this gotten any better in 2017?
Asked by Philipp2.
- A:Answer All I can comment on is my own experience with customer service. It was horrible and still is. The issues I brought up a few weeks ago are still unresolved. The two customer service people I spoke to (one verbal, one via chat) seemed to have surprisingly poor work ethics and were uninterested, and were not knowledgeable. Now I have to contact them a third time about unresolved issues and I am just dreading it.

Q: Questionif I buy 2 of these is it any cheaper
Asked by Anonymous.
- A:Answer Not exactly sure why you'd want to or even need to do this but it won't get any cheaper. As it is, the OTA can record 4 shows simultaneously. Buying a second unit would give you the ability to record eight at the same time. You might consider the Tivo mini if you want to watch or record broadcasts in other rooms. You could have three minis running off of one OTA.

Q: QuestionWhy can't I order this from you. I want one and don't want to order from Amazon. It won't let me put one in my shopping cart.
Asked by Amy.
- A:Answer This TiVo is currently only available in-store, so it would need to be in-stock at your local Best Buy store before you can add it to your online cart. You can check store availability by entering your zip code. Thanks!
