Great midrange laptop
Posted .I would recommend this to a friendI upgraded from an Acer dual core, 4gig ram, 500 gig HD to this PC. I have been blown away by it's speed and functionality. The 3d sound is really decent for a laptop, though IMHO it isn't "quite" as good as the beats audio in the HP but definitely above average. I have installed several games #skyrim/Need For Speed...etc# and the integrated graphics work well enough to make me happy..though I am by NO MEANS a pro Gamer, so I will just leave it at that, they are decent. Movies, etc, play beautifully on it. I am an avid amateur photographer and I use photoshop quite a bit with camera RAW files. My dual core would freeze up with all of the processing, but this PC can handle the load just fine. The reason this PC rated a 4 for me is beacause this is the second one. The first had to be returned due to a battery that wouldn't hold a charge #I had it for 3 days# ..it would only last about 1:45 playing a movie on the hard drive #NOT STREAMED#...With the new PC however, the battery played the movie for 3.5 hours and still had 32% left. After doing a little research online, peeps seem to complain about tosh batteries quite a bit and relate it to the fact that the PC comes with the battery already installed, which gives it a chance to be a depleted battery before it ever gets to you... My advice, initial charge for a good 6-12 hours, unplug and loop a video and see if it gives you a decent playback time before you install all of your software, etc. Other than the minor complaint of the battery, this is an awesome little PC... OH yeah, and the touchpad is SUPER sensitive and bounces all over but this can be changed in the options very easily...If you can't figure it out, someone at Bestbuy will be more than happy to show you :)

Great value and excellent hardware
Posted .I would recommend this to a friendI purchased this laptop July 9th, of 2012 and have been thrilled with it since. I had searched high and low for an affordable machine offering the i7 processor as well as having capability to expand to 16GB ram. This laptop beat out similar models from HP, ASUS, and Samsung to win the job. I have been using it for tasks specific to online schooling, multimedia projects, and late-night gaming. The battery life is average, if not good, lasting roughly 4 hours fully charged. That number is cut in half when gaming, as this model handles it well, despite running hot. The graphics look fairly good, even maxed out, although it probably doesn't compare with pricier high end laptop and desktop computers. The computer is ready to run in seconds, and has no problem with programs like Rosetta Stone, Ableton 8 Live, and Avid Studio. I really like how light the laptop is despite the fact that it's made of aluminum, not plastic. The screen is a nice size at 15.6", but leaves a bit to be desired as far as resolution (1366x768) is concerned. Plenty of customization with this machine; I utilize MIDI keyboards, HDPVR software and hardware, isolation head-phones, VOIP head-phones and software, and many other external sources, and the laptop has had no problem cooperating with any of them. This model also includes a built-in webcam. If you're a young adult student like myself, and are looking for an affordable option for online and on-the go schooling, multitasking multimedia, and playing games both current and classic, this is an excellent option for you. This laptop may not stack up against technology present in more expensive alternatives from other companies, but it competes like a champion, plays like a beast, and performs at superior grades of efficiency.

Overall An Excellent Laptop
Posted .I would recommend this to a friendI got this computer for the following reasons: 1) CPU - This is a 3rd Generation Core i7 processor which means that it runs cooler since it is smaller than many of the other processors on the market. Don't take my word for it: check out this site to see the rating for this i7-3610QM processor - being in the 50's is not too shabby. http://www.cpubenchmark.net/cpu_list.php I was looking at some of the AMD computers and there were some reviews showing concern with heat. Let's face it: heat and laptops don't mix. I'm not saying that the AMD has this problem, but I had an ACER laptop burn up, so personally I'd rather not go down that road again. 2) Price - For what you are getting in item 1 above, I got this laptop for around $750 at Best Buy ... an excellent value for the money .To be honest, I was looking at cheaper computers with slower processors, but at the end of the day I just felt that I would be kicking myself if I didn't get the best that I could afford. However, this is one of those things where it depends on what you are planning to do with the laptop: if you are only going to use it for word processing, this one might be an overkill. 3) RAM - I liked the fact that it came with 8 GB of RAM ... I haven't noticed any slowing of the processor in anything that I run. However, as a full disclaimer: I play Neverwinter Nights (old video games) ... thus I really can't speak to the gaming aspects for this laptop. 4) Speakers - I was pleasantly surprised with the speakers fo this laptop - nice crisp sound qualities. Now, the only reservations that I had were: 1) Keyboard - Ok when I tried this out at Best Buy, I did do a double take due to the keyboard. Thus, unless keyboards are never an issue for you, I really wouldn't recommend buying the laptop over the internet without trying it out in person at a store. Just a word of caution. 2) Video Memory - For me, th 1.6 GB for video memory does seem a little small, but maybe I am being picky here. 3) Battery Life - To be frank, figuring that this has an Ivy Bridge processor, I thought that the battery life would be longer ... but once again I think that is being picky as well. Overall, I am very happy with my purchase - I really do like this laptop! Toshiba did a wonderful job with this product.

Super fast for parallel programming
Posted .I would recommend this to a friendI needed a laptop to be able to run MATLAB using parallel FOR loops. Suffices to say that what took 40 minutes on my previous laptop (Intel core i3) now takes 4 minutes! (but I will be honest and say that on my previous laptop I did not use parallel loops, the time would have probably been 20 minutes really since an i3 has 2 cores). You can actually see, hear and feel how the computer reacts to more computing demands as the fan starts working while the 4 cores work in parallel and get warmer. The hyperthreading technology allows for virtually 8 CPUs running anywhere from 2.3 to 3.3 GHz. The sound quality is very good. The keyboard is nice. The battery lasts sufficiently long, although you might need to let this computer plugged-in when you need to do heavy computations. The aluminum body is elegant and feels sturdy. The touch pad has a little learning curve since it does not physically have separate left/right click buttons (but the functionality is there, the buttons are really below the pad, thus the learning curve). There is a bunch of toshiba and intel functionalities which i haven't had the time to explore yet. Overall, my experience has been an excellent one for the money. It works like a desktop but it is a laptop!

great machine
Posted .I would recommend this to a friendi really did my research for a laptop..thanxs to liberal exchange policies i tried a dell xps 15 (wifi was terrible), a dell inspiron 15r (weighed too much), hp (display was not bright and tended to yellow). sony vaio s (speakers were awful with almost no sound or volume). the toshiba blew everything out of the water. speakers are awesome. the toshiba is also the only machine that uses a pentium 3 i7 chip. the display is bright and the weight, although not an ultrabook is not that heavy. the speed of this machine is great. after having tried 4 other laptops this was the best of the bunch by far. it's not as thin as the xps, hp or vaio but its not that much larger. all in all at $729 this is the best bang for the buck out there. the WIDI function is awesome too and the wifi, according to speedtest is the fastest of any laptop i tried. so i did my homework and i'm quite satisfied with mypurchase.

Amazing Computer and Quality
Posted .I would recommend this to a friendI have been known to buy computers and sell them because i didnt like them. Ive had Sony Vaio,HP,Dell, and now Toshiba. Out of all of those computers this computer was the best and worth the money for the quality. The touch pad is amazing, and has good overall quality. What i look for in a computer is solid body and buttons and this computer is everything and more. I Upgraded the Ram from 8gb to 16 just because i could and this computer is flawless. The i7 processor is super fast and well worth the money. Overall this computer was a great buy and i can see my self using this for years to come!

This machine has real horsepower
Posted .I would recommend this to a friendI returned an HP G7 because it lacked the horsepower and went with this machine. I've spent the last couple days migrating databases and doing some fairly intense processing and this machine is phenomenal. The things I really like: 1. Speed and lack of heat (one of the big things about the new processor type) 2. No bloatware to uninstall 3. Etched stainless steel case looks great and I expect will be super durable. 4. surprisingly good sound from the on board speakers. I'm not certainly I like the Chiclet keys, but that's minor, as I almost always have an external keyboard attached. Bottom line: if you need a computer that can crunch data and not burn a hole through the desk or your wallet, this is the one.

Overall a great computer
Posted .I would recommend this to a friendFirst of all, let me start off by saying that I am not a gamer. I don't play any games so I cannot say how good this computer will be for that particular application. I use the computer largely for web browsing, e-mail, Netflix, movies, videos, listening to music, downloading music and recording music. For my needs, this computer is great and then some. It's very fast, loads fast and runs very smoothly. The only complaint would be that the keyboard is slightly uncomfortable. Sometimes it doesn't register a key but it's not a disaster. I am sure that I will get used to it quite fast.

Q: QuestionHow does the intel HD 4000 on this particular laptop compare to the Radeon 7660 in the pavilion m6?I'm curious how the Intel HD 4000 will perform on games like Rage or Fallout New Vegas. A friend has the pavilion m6 with the trinity A10 and both game run really well. How well would this Laptop perform in the same scenario. My preference would be the i7, but not if the trinity performs better.
Asked by loztdogs.
- A:Answer Resident Evil 5 performs well under the Intel HD Graphics 4000, but I don't think it will run Rage or fallout because they require high end AMD or Nvidia graphics.

Q: QuestionFirewire connectionI have an audio interface (Motu 8Pre) that uses firewire. This computer doesn't have firewire input I believe. Is there a way to get it done? Will USB to Firewire or HDMI to Firewire adapter work correctly ? How do I get this computer to work with my interface? I'm planning to buy this laptop, but don't want to go through hassle/extra expenses of making it work. Also, is 5400RPMs enough for music recording? Any help will be greatly appreciated, Thanks.
Asked by Rob.
- A:Answer There are adapters that will convert between Firewire and USB, but you should contact the support technicians for that audio interface to see if it will work. Is the software for the device Windows compatible? 5400 RPM is fine for music.

Q: QuestionRandom clicking noise from laptopHello, I recently purchased this laptop several days ago. My concern is that this laptop has started to make soft random clicking noises. There isn't a set pattern of when and why it does. After some research and testing with diagnostic tools, there doesn't seem to be any problems. I'm positive it's a hard drive problem, but I don't know if I should be concerned since it's new. Should I just return and swap for another?
Asked by Chris.
- A:Answer While it's possible that your laptop's hard drive may be defective, it's also possible that something may be caught in the case fan - it'd be difficult to determine the exact source of the noise without being able to physical examine the unit. As such, I'd encourage you to exchange the computer if you're still within 30 days of the purchase date.
