Great Floodlight Camera for Home Assistant!

I have been anticipating the release of these floodlight cameras for quite a while. I had 2 Feit Floodlight Cameras that just did not function in the ways that I wanted them to. I replaced those Feit cameras with these and I am very pleased. I bought these during the 2024 Prime Day time frame (obviously bought them on Best Buy) and they were about $100 each, which I thought was a great deal for them. First off: These cameras have great picture quality for both daytime and nighttime viewing. The 2K quality is great and the field of view is massive. LED's are super bright and light up the areas I have these at very well. Second: This was the biggest thing for me - These cameras allow you to get their camera streams so that you can place them into your NVR and handle events that way. My specific use case was I just wanted to be able to pull their camera streams into my Home Assistant instance just so I could view them. I don't care so much about handling motion events or anything through Frigate or MotionEye or anything like that, I just wanted to be able to view them in Home Assistant. There is a small bit of advance setup for this use case, but chances are if you're aware of NVR's and setting them up, you would be able to set it up just fine. Third: And related to the second point - These have local storage via SD card or you can opt to use their Tapo Care service which allows for cloud storage and rich notifications to your phone (getting a picture preview on motion detection for example) for some price. I'm staying with just local storage. Fourth: Setup is easy if you're familiar with basic wiring. If you replace an existing floodlight with this it's simple. Turn off breaker to floodlight, take off old floodlight, attach new mounts, attach wires by following their instructions, plug in main camera body, turn on breaker, open the Tapo app, add device by following the app instructions, and you're off! The whole process took me probably around 1 hour to complete per camera, but I work slow and thoroughly read instructions and options. You can probably be done in 30 min if you work quicker than I do. The Tapo app is pretty good. It gives you lots of options to customize zones, light timers, which motion events you want (motion, vehicle, person, etc) and many other things you would expect from a floodlight camera. If you see these on sale for around $100 or so, I would definitely pick them up. I've attached a photo of what the camera looks like from over my garage.

    NO SUBSCRIPTION REQUIRED!

The Tp link wired outdoor flood light is an excellent choice for those looking for a reliable, easy, and picture perfect smart floodlight. NO SUBSCRIPTION REQUIRED! Setup was easy and straight forward with the app walking you through step by step. Disclaimer: I replaced a vintage light that was from 50s. So I had to add a box and redo wiring at a high location. This took me a few days and time. However, the light install was easy and took me a total of 30 minutes max. I did attach this to a detached garage; however, I have a wifi mesh system in my house yard and garage so I did not have connectivity issues. Advice: make sure when you are installing the light in area accessible to wifi. The camera, lights, and the overall mount is flexible. You will have no problem mounting this camera under an eve, upside down, or on a side of a building. I have had other floodlights that were not as flexible and could only be used in certain mount positions (not the case here). FEATURE PACKED! TP link packed as many security and convenience features as possible in this floodlight to give you peace of mind. The dimmable light totals 2800 lumens providing a bright and distant reaching light. The light’s motion sensor is super wide angled at 270 degrees and adjustable. The camera, located above the motion sensor, is crisp and sharp with a 2k sensor. equipped with “color” night vision, person and pet identifying AI. Activity zones are available if you need to block areas out or set zones of high priority for alerts. I needed to block areas so I don’t have to deal with neighbors pulling in their driveway. Blocking areas usually takes me time as I learn what and who is setting the boundaries off. The camera does have two way audio with an outdoor alarm option. I usually only use the audio option to listen if something is happening; however, it’s nice knowing I can speak back out if needed. Lastly the camera is able to offer no subscriptions because your data is stored locally and you will need a micro sd card. What’s amazing is this device supports up to 512gb cards. Typically devices do not support such a high amount and this is a pro as you will have to deal with less data management or cleaning the card to give more room. The camera is waterproof and has already survived a recent storm. It is light but appears to be well constructed. Finally, the app is packed with adjustability and accessibility to all of the camera and floodlights options are available without a subscription. The app is clean and intuitive for being free (10/10). Overall a great option for someone who does not want a subscription based light. This floodlight may not be for you if you have an existing Eco system and don’t want to have a 2nd or multiple apps. You will want this light if you are avoiding subscription based companies.

    Buffer-free, clear, and sharp camera!

Upon unboxing, the premium quality of the camera is evident. It is lightweight and constructed from well-made plastic. The installation is straightforward, thanks to the built-in wire connector that simplifies the setup. Once powered on, the LED begins blinking, indicating that the camera is in pairing mode. Connecting the camera to Wi-Fi using the Tapo app on my iPhone was quick and easy, especially since my Wi-Fi information was already stored in the app from other Tapo products. The camera offers a 2K QHD resolution and a 150° field of view, delivering clear and detailed footage that covers my entire driveway. The 2800-lumen floodlights provide bright illumination, significantly enhancing nighttime visibility. The Smart AI Detection feature is particularly useful, distinguishing between people, pets, and vehicles, and allowing for custom activity zones to reduce unnecessary notifications. The Tapo app is user-friendly and responsive, making it easy to adjust the camera settings. Although the built-in microphone and speaker support two-way communication, the microphone's clarity could be improved, but it remains functional. TP-Link offers both local storage via a microSD card and cloud storage through a subscription. The camera is compatible with Google Assistant and Amazon Alexa but lacks Apple HomeKit support, which I hope will be added in future updates to integrate with my Apple Home setup. The camera maintains a reliable connection, providing quick access to the live feed with no buffering, which is crucial for promptly monitoring any suspicious activities. My experience with this camera has been completely satisfying, with no issues at all.
