Synopsis

Season one of the "cartoon commercial" The Transformers begins with the three-part "More Than Meets the Eye," which explains how the two warring Transformers armies from the planet Cybertron, Optimus Prime's good-guy Autobots and Megatron's bad-guy Decepticons, were placed in suspended animation when they attempted to expand their battle to prehistoric Earth. "Thawing out" in 2005 A.D., the combatants resume their war as if nothing had happened, with the Autobots gaining a bit of an advantage by winning two human earthlings, Spike and Sparkplug, over to their side. A later episode, "Roll for It," introduces another major human ally of the Autobots, computer whiz Chip Chase. Subsequent season-one highlights include the three-part story, "The Ultimate Doom," wherein Megatron enlists the aid of a mad (Do you hear? Mad!) human scientist in attempting to bring Cybertron into Earth's orbit. And "A Plague of Insecticons" introduces a brand-new threat to Autobots and Decepticons alike -- not to mention a fresh new line of Hasbro-licensed Transformer toys! ~ Hal Erickson

    Awesome TV series!

This set is a must have for any Transformers fan! This set collects the entire Tranformers cartoon from the '80s (also called G1#. Transformers features lots of fast-paced #and generally non-violent) action, there's more action in a half-hour Transformers episode than in most 60 minute live-action episodes. Lots of fast and furious action and some exciting duels between Optimus Prime and Megatron. This is also a surprisingly well-written series. The plot for any given episode is well thought out and develops each character nicely. From high profile heroes like Optimus Prime and Bumblebee, to giving the spotlight to some lesser known characters like Beachcomber and Trax. The animation is quite good by 80's TV standards and even holds up today as quality animation. Shout Factory did a good job on the restoration of the series. There are a few places where you can see source material problems, but most of the show looks as crisp and clear as when it was first broadcast. The extras trace the history of the Transformers from the action figures, to the Marvel comics to the TV series itself, including input from series writers, Bob Budiansky the writer of the Marvel comic and even some of the voice actors. Very informative! For an action series the whole family can enjoy, look no further than Transformers! See it for the first time or rediscover why you loved this series so much. Required viewing for any Transformers fan!

This set contains all the original episodes from seasons 1-4. However it's missing the Transformers Movie. If you missed out on the Matrix of Leadership edition this will suffice. I wish that Shout Factory would include the movie in their sets, it would actually make them complete. If this set is from the same DVD transfer as the Matrix of Leadership edition then they'll play and look fine. They contain all the original mistakes from the 80's (poor color rendering, talking with no mouth movement, improperly rendered character colors, etc.) but it still provides a high nostalgic value to those who grew up with this cartoon.

This is an awesome way to relive your cartoon watching days of your youth. I've been wanting to get this entire Gen 1 series for years, but didn't want to pay close to $80 for the set. So when I seen it on sale for about 1/2 off, I jumped at this. I'm now reliving my youth with my 13-year old son, who loves watching it with me. The quality is DVD quality, so expect it to look exactly like you remembered it while watching on your TV. No new enhancements or any fancy upscaling to Blu-Ray quality. It still looks great today and you'll be very happy to have this set in your collection.

Taking it back old school! Kick it back to your early years by watching one of the original awesome Saturday morning cartoons that helped shape your childhood. Grab your favorite cereal and take a seat and joyfully binge watch Optimus Prime and the rest of the autobots take on the Decepticons!!! Enjoy!

I bought this for my 6 year old nephew for Christmas. He is an avid Transformers fan, and he loves it. Seeing the origins of the Transformers and remembering when I was a child watching these very same cartoons has been great. The added bonus of original toy commercials is fun as well.

I used to watch Transformers as a kid coming home from school every day. I purchased this for my nephews to show them real cartoons, not what they have now, lika an alien with one eye or a sponge in the sea. They saw Transformers movies but never the TV episodes. They love it.

This item include the whole series from 1984-1994. Although is DVD quality, episodes looks pretty good, and sound also. Only people that had the opportunity to see the original and old cartoons will love this collection for good price.

I bought this for my nephew who loves transformers. We will definitely be watching this together or I will be borrowing it as so as he's done watching it. This was hard to find for a decent price, but best buy delivered.
