The Ear Force Recon 50x gaming headset from Turtle Beach is the right product for you! If you are someone who is just getting in to the competitive gaming scene or is just a serious gamer, look no further. This headset will cover all the needs and expectations you have for your first legitimate gaming headset because it’s price is low, it is comfortable, and it functions very well. At under $50 this is the best headset you can buy. Since Turtle Beach is one of the most respected headset makers, you know the quality will at least be better than most. However, I’m here to tell you that this is the best low-end option. If you are anything like me, you will look at buying a gaming headset one of two ways. 1) Buy the best headset you can at the lowest price possible, or 2) just go out and buy the very best headset you can for upwards of $300. Since I was a beginner, I chose to stay relatively cheap and go for just an OK headset. I ended up with AMAZING value. A huge worry for cheaper headsets is comfort. I can’t say the Recon 50x is comfortable as the very expensive headsets, but it is quite comfortable nevertheless. The headset is easily adjustable and has a good amount of padding. Personally I’ve used the headsets for hours on end with no comfort problems. One very minor nuisance is that if you have older Xbox One controllers, you will need a headset adapter. These are fairly cheap but they do slightly make the controller more cumbersome in your hands. I have now had this headset for four months and everything about it still functions perfectly. I have not even treated it that well. When I bought this headset, the main thing I wanted it to do was enhance the way I hear the games I play. You really can hear the improvement! It is much better then playing without one. Even though this product does not have noise canceling, it does dampen outside noise considerably. In conclusion, I would definitely recommend the Turtle Beach Ear Force Recon 50x for any serious gamer just coming on to the competitive scene. It really does all you could ask and more for a headset that costs under $50. Again, I hope you consider this product when searching for a gaming headset because it is WONDERFUL!

I recently purchased the gaming headset 50X manufactured by Turtle Beaches for my Xbox one. I thought that I give my opinion on this product to help other people decide if this is the right product for them. The criteria that I used to give my rating on this are functionality, comfortability, price, and durability. Functionality My functionality expectations for this headset were that it would be able to block out some noise while still being able to pick up my voice when talking. The 50X goes beyond those expectations. The noise blocking on this is incredible, I use this headset in the living room next to the door, and I can’t even hear when my roommate gets home. It also picks up the slightest noise in game while being able to tell you which side the noise came from. Comfortability As for comfortability, the 50x is okay in this category. When first putting on the headset it is in my opinion comfortable. But as time goes on it gradually starts to feel like it is constricting your ears, eventually causing them to hurt [usually around the third hour of continuous use]. Other friends who have purchased this also have said that they experience the same problem, but they also still say that it’s a great mic and would highly recommended it as well. Price Now for the price of 40 dollars, it is very hard to beat this product. You would have other headsets that are the same quality that would sell for about 60 and even 100 dollars. 40 dollars can be a steep price for some people, but the more affordable mics can be just as costly or even more expensive. Such as a 20 dollar headset that keeps breaking, causing you to purchase another one again and again. Overall it would be more economic to purchase the 50x. Durability It has now been 3 months since I’ve purchased the 50X headset, and it still works like when I first opened it from the box. Even after long hours of continuous use and dropping it multiple of times on the ground, it still is able to do its intended job and exceed my expectations. Ideal User The 50X is a good headset, but for the price of 40 dollar it’s an excellent product. This headset intended user is an occasional gamer who plays for a couple of hours at most, but still wants to play competitively. Someone who wants a quality mic, but doesn’t want to break the bank.

Nifty headset that doesn't cost an arm and leg

I bought this from a local Best Buy after numerous attempts to get "cheap" headsets from walmart to work with Skype on my computer. Maybe I've never owned a good headset before but after I bought this one, I was pretty darn impressed with how nice it was. I got it for my computer but now I use it for my xbox one as well. So it comes with an adapter cable that you can connect to your computer. The nice thing is you can leave the adapter cable plugged into your computer and disconnect your headset to use elsewhere. With the adapter, the cord is extra long so you can move around quite a bit with it plugged in. Another super convenient thing is the mic can disconnect from the headset, so if you're wanting to just listen to music you can take the mic out and set it aside. The mic is also flexible so you can twist and move it to any position you want. Great for when you're wanting to get a drink or eat a snack while chatting. The headset earmuffs are comfortable for the most part and cup around the ears, they can rotate somewhat for even more comfort. But wearing glasses with it is still uncomfortable. I'm not a sound expert by any means but I was pretty satisfied with the quality. It has a mute switch and volume control on the cord. All in all a pretty nifty headset. I like how flexible it is with the removable/flexible mic and rotating ear muffs, the long cord, and being able to switch between my comp and xbox with ease. My only complaint would be that it can be uncomfortable to wear if you have glasses, but that can't be helped. Either way, I totally recommend it.

I had previously purchased a G430 headset that broke while under warranty. I took it back to BBuy and tried to exchange it for another one of the same type. Of course, they were "out of stock", so I had to purchase THIS higher priced model of a maker I'd never used before. This EAR Force set is so tight, even when fully expanded, that I get headaches...and I've been told my head is small for my bodysize. The mouthpiece seems to slide in snugly, but will fall out at the most inopportune time. The incoming cable doesn't come up one SIDE; no, it comes up UNDER the chin...the 2 wires are formfitted together until they come within 4 inches of my chin, which puts a great deal of pressure against my cheeks and jawbone, and severely limits my ability to twist sideways. If I was about 5 years old this set might fit and MIGHT last 3 months. For now, I bought another G430 through Amazon, and relegated the Turtle Beach to backup/spare status.

These are comfortable and sound great for stereo and work well for chat. However, these were bought under duress when my son's PC gaming headset failed. The package says it works with PC and I should have been more skeptical since they are marked primarily as an Xbox One headset. I should have been more diligent before purchasing. When we got home and opened them their was only a single 3.5mm 4 pole connector. The instructions said for PC use I had to purchase a mic splitter adapter from Turtle Beach. So I did and the cost of cable with shipping plus the week wait was unacceptable. Hence one star off. Had I wrote this review as I was going thru this, I would have been less gracious. Also note, even though a xbox one headset, these do not plug into a legacy xbox one controller either. You need a newer xbox one controller with the 3.5mm jack or the headphone adapter allowing a legacy controller to use this xbox one headset. Minus another star. Again, this is imo a 5 star product with some caveats.

We bought two of these, one for each child. They mostly used it for watching / playing content on the iPad. I would estimate they used it 2-3 times per week for a few hours, or in the car - so a little rough handing was expected. Purchased for about $40. I tried them a few times, the sound was good. When you touch the cable between headset and connector it does make sounds on the headset and you can hear it. We never used the microphone that was included (nice accessory). #1 -- right ear piece stopped working. First I thought it was because the iPad case was in the way (it was a little trouble to keep it plugged in with the Urban Armor Gear on it). Later on it just did not work at all ( about 7-8 months used ) #2 -- One day my child came to me saying the headset was not working, when I tried plugging it in, I felt the connector was a little loose. When I pulled on the connector, it came out of the housing jacket and detached from the headset cable. ( about 11-12 months used ) [ manufacturer warranty has now expired so, guess they are heading for recycle/trash ]

I wanted a quality headset but at a lower budget. The 50X fits the bill. Sound quality is good, and volume is plenty loud unlike some other reviews I've read. Mine is lower than 50% most times and I rarely need to raise it. I like the in-line volume control and mic mute switch. The adapter that balances game & chat volumes does not come with this headset, but I am glad because I don't want to add more bulk to my controller and those options are in the Xbox quick settings panel anyway. Once I found a good balance I never needed to go back, but I don't play a big variety of multiplayer games so certain titles may need more adjusting. The foam pads on the ears are comfortable, and I like that the mic is removable and easily adjustable. My only gripe is that with the headset fully extended, the piece that rests on top of my head is a bit tight, leading to discomfort during longer sessions. I have a large head so this may not be a problem for others, and repositioning usually helps to an extent. Other than that, I think this is a hard value to beat.

We picked this headset up looking for a replacement to the standard xbox live headset. Overall, it works very well. The mic picks up speech very clearly. It is also quite comfortable to wear for longer periods of time. I would say the one small negative for the headset is that the sound on it is a little bit tinny and flat compared to other stereo headsets we have had in the past. It still is good enough for general gameplay, but if you are looking for something that sounds loud and "full", you may want to go with a different headset. On the positive side, this headset seems so far to be pretty high quality for the money and seems to be constructed from better materials, so we are hoping that it will last longer as a result. (We have had pretty poor luck with any headset from any brand lasting longer than a half a year). In any case, I would recommend this headset at the price it is selling for. It is a nice one.
