Okay, my wife had read about this movie in one of her women's mags and wanted me to get it. She described the basic plot line, leading me to think that it would be a redo of Species. It wasn't. Think about crossing Species, without the action, sensuality, or bravado with 2001, without Kubric's compelling management of the camera. It is European in approach, with long close ups of people driving, staring at rearview mirrors, random crowd shots, and people walking. For the longest time I thought that the point of the movie was to prove that the star, Scarlett Johansson, knew how to drive, because many long sequences of her doing just that pervade the first part of the movie. Its bulled as erotic. It isn't. There is nudity but it is functional and not expressive. It was described as flooding your senses. It does take long periods to do anything. The lack of traditional score, the surprisingly eire alien performance of SJ, and the very expressionistic kill scenes do make for an unsettling experience but the director's method is quite awkward and he works too hard to make it look naturalistic. It becomes an exercise in patience. Having said all of that, the plot is interesting and the film does accomplish an unsettling view of human nature, without the traditional explanatory exposition. You just have to be patient. My wife, who you recall wanted me to get this, wasn't and crashed out. I am glad that I finished it, as by the end, the effort toward naturalistic, understated cinematic style, though tough for an American use to a more polished style, did lead to a more brutal ending. SJ's awkward performance makes her quite believable in the part that she'd portraying and I was very impressed with what she accomplished. I think that the director could have trusted her more and laid off the long sequences of nothing-scenes. Did I like it? I am not sure. It was interesting and I may have to watch it again. I will say that it left me subtly disturbed. If that was the objective, and the fun-house mirror view of humanity, showed in slow motion, was a goal, then it worked. The abstract nature of imagery kept a lot of mystery and the main star’s disconnected performance made for a more human than human empathy, leading to the viewer becoming both connected and repelled by the story. If you go into it expecting an arty approach, instead of a traditional four-color depiction, you might find the experience worth while.

Why is Scarlet so bad when not a Black Widow?

Whether it is Lucy or ghost in the shell it seems like Hollywood's go to creepy girl lead has become scarlet Johansen even in comedy movies it seems they take on a darkly comic genre rather than a actual comedy. This is a rather unfortunate thing as her talent range should be placing her in movies with far better plot and Scripts, but if you were a fan of the two movies I mentioned earlier and there is a good chance you will actually consider this a 4 1/2 star movie however I wasn't thrilled with either of those movies and this reminds me of a bad Terrence Malick film and all his films are horrible and completely unwatchable so that's how this got three stars because it was at least watchable until the end although cringe worthy. The other factor in my reading was the above average every day low price featured on Best Buy.com which was the reason it was bought and gambled on so for that reason Take a chance and trust that you won't be out enough money thanks to Best Buy to be angry if you don't enjoy this whatsoever.

      Best Movie of The YEAR

I doubt there will be a better film released this year, if not a few years to come. Every single second, every shot choice, every musical cue, every edited cut, every length of time, every facial expression shown by the characters... was perfect. I truly doubt that this film could have been any better, because it was already perfection in my eyes. From the very moment she picks up an ant, cut to a close up of it's squirming face, cut to a foggy shot of a city building, I knew I would enjoy this movie far more than normal. This is the type of film that can only be experienced in a movie theater. To view it anywhere else would take away from the overall impact. But, I bought the blu-ray anyway, and it did not disappoint. Lacking on the bonus features, but thats alright. Still enjoyable. I cannot recommend this film enough. It is absolute perfection. It is moving art.

This is a thinking persons film, featuring some mind-blowing cinematography and stellar acting. Theres a reason for everything in this film. Its pace is deliberate, its plot is understated, and the music is just phenomenal and unsettling. It is a quite film, but if you have a proper sound system in place, this is not a problem. Its not a film for everyone, but if you actually love Science Fiction, this is a revelation. It doesn't hold your hand and your left wondering throughout the entire film what exactly its all about. The end answers questions nicely and is left open for interpretation. Its extremely disturbing and quite sensual. My wife absolutely loved this film and we had a half hour discussion on the meaning behind the film. The special features answer any remaining questions you have. Such as the reasoning behind the pace, the acting style, the way the story is presented and so on. Very interesting stuff here.

This movie is not for everyone. The film plays out like a good Twilight Zone or Outer Limits episode. It manages to avoid most common tropes. Be warned - it will make you uncomfortable at times. I felt the ending was a bit weak but the ride was worth it. Scarlett Johansson really gave it her all and deserves recognition for the level of commitment she made to this little indy film. I was generous to give it 4 stars but truly creative efforts like this need support. I was not happy with the ending so no 5. If you read the book the film is only similar in the most broadest brushes. I liked it overall. Parents: There is some language, violence and frontal nudity (male and female). All of this made sense in context and was not gratuitous.

This is a dark and twisted movie that really made me think for the week that followed. It's shot like a Stanley Kubrick film in some ways and Scarlet Johannson's performance is captivating. Like any good sci-fi movie it raises great questions about humanity and pushes the envelope with story. The picture quality seems intentionally grainy and adds to the experience. The sounds a little rough in that there are portions where I couldn't fully understand some of the characters, but it may be because some of them weren't actors! That's right. There were people in this movie that had no idea they were in a movie. I won't spoil the circumstances of that but definitely check it out!

Jonathan Glazer, who co-wrote and directed UNDER THE SKIN, has found in Scarlett Johansson the perfect otherworldly woman to fill the main role. Her beauty, despite a frumpy wig and ill-fitting clothing here, is supernatural and Johansson is expressive and kinetic even as she seems removed and devoid of feeling. She does an excellent job bringing the role to life. The film is a stylized, ambitious production that deserves respect for trying to skirt the usual conventions of the thriller-horror genre while still telling a thrilling and horrific story.

Film: Scarlett Johannson plays a seductive role. She lures people in with her body and leads them into a strange place. The whole time you're trying to figure out what happens to the victims. And the ending will leave you feeling bad for what happens to her. Product: The cover art is a nice design and features Scarlett's face with colors. Whenever wherever you find this, it is worth picking up.
